Whenever I get a chance to show off Windows Phone to a friend, I usually start with speech recognition. It’s always a crowd pleaser, and it’s only gotten better in Windows Phone 7.5, which lets you compose, listen to, and send text messages with your voice.
But did you know you can also use voice-to-text to update your Facebook status? Here’s a little video showing how the trick works. Check it out and tell me what you think!
Huh, didn't even think of using the Facebook texting service! Cool!
But really, could you have been any quieter during the video? It was not fun when I hit play in Zune again. My ears. X_X
@ Andy Myers
Seeing that the internet is a potentially dangerous place for children to play, it seems that more and more ''safe'' sites need to be available for the youngsters. These apps are fun for all ages, but I think mostly tech savvy adults and people with issues are on this blog. I think that a Windows Phone site, or page dedicated to the youth would be a great idea. "Windows Phone Kids" or "WPK" could showcase things that they are interested in, create a safe meeting place for them to chat, and create brand loyalty. Just a Idea.
By the way, "Windows Phone Kids" is not copy written. Feel free to use it! LOL
workaround... i'm not sure this belongs on the official blog.... nice to know.... but entirely too messy a process
I tried it and the voice-to-text translation wasn't accurate even in my silent room so I had to edit the text before sending. Mixed opinions of the use of this feature though it's neat.
Thanks Andy. I'll try this out later today. I am very pleased with the voice features in WP. Even when speaking through my car Bluetooth system, the voice to text service has never let me down.
Yes, more of this please! Like WP7 hacks for all of us not smart enough to come up with this on our own!
Worked perfectly for me. A bit hacky, but I may use it.
Handy feature! I must know what that app/Live Tile was on your phone! I've been searching for an awesome hockey app!
Great post guys. You can also set up Twitter the same way. It can even be set up through SMS. I've been tweeting by saying "Text Twitter" since the Mango upgrade.
Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see what Nokia has in store!
Nice trick, but build it into the OS as an official streamlined feature for Facebook and Twitter.
I finally found a page on AT&T's site where they are actually acknowledging their new lineup of phones. It's tiny but if you've been searching ATT's site everyday like I have then it's exciting. Funny thing is its just a redirect to this blog.
www.att.com/.../landing-pages ....You may have to scroll down a bit to see it.
If I had Mango, but I have ATT so my HTC Surround dosen't have Mango yet, then I could try out the new features too.
And this is easier than adding a little microphone button on the keyboard so we can voice text Facebook and any other prompt we see bacause...?
yay! another great feature that doesn't work in my language..
I am sorry but the 4x4 rubik's cube that had a parity problem in the background dominated my attention. come on that is just mean. if you have made it that far just solve it before you make a video of facebook voice integration. do you know how frustrating it is to try and reach into your screen to grab a 2D image of a cube because your fingers want to fix it. must make colors complete.
You can do the same thing with twitter by enabling text tweeting. Cool
@Entegy Thanks for the feedback. If we do more of these, we'll try to improve the audio quality.
@Mayooms Glad you asked! It's called Hockey Tracker, and it's completely awesome. Pin Live Tiles of your favorite teams to see live scores and other information. I think it might even be free.
@Robbcap Good to know. I'll give that a try.
@MadScntst I feel your pain, and I apologize. I will solve the 4x4 Rubik's Cube now in your honor :)
