So you have been hearing all of these great things about Windows Home Server, but still aren’t sure if you are ready to buy one (even though there are some great holiday discounts that you don’t want to miss!). If this is the case, I would recommend using the Windows Home Server free trial.
Our newly updated trial now includes Power Pack 3! You can simply download the trial and try out all of Windows Home Server’s features. You can read some of our recent blogs to learn about all of the enhancements Power Pack 3 will provide. These enhancements will be especially helpful if you have just transitioned your PCs to Windows 7.
Once the trail period of 30 days is over, I am convinced you won’t want to go back to life without Windows Home Server. Click here to download the Windows Home Server free trial with Power Pack 3:

now this is what i need.
i was very happy with this.
I do have one question though. After the trial period since this has all 3 PP installed if you bought this would you have to go back to square one and install all the PP again or could you just insert the license and be done?
Don C - I am a little unclear on what you are asking. If you purchase a product after the trial period os over, it will automatically update to PP3 through Windows Update.
If i have misunderstood your question, I would recommend asking in our community forum: www.serverplayground.com
I have been happy with PP3 also. I'm running it on a server that I built. Can I purchase the license and continue to run it on my server or can I only use WHS by purchasing a pre-installed OEM version?
ManInFull - You can buy the software on Amazon.com and continue to use your home built server. www.amazon.com/.../ref=nb_ssc_1_19
from installing it then buying an oem disk it WILL NOT let you put the key in ms says the key is valid but I need to pay for support in order to get help where they will most likely tell me to reinstall whats the point if there is no easy migration path
Nicole, there appears to be conflicting info about activating the trial with a purchased OEM license key. I installed the trial (skipping the key input) and now going to purchase the OEM license. Before I go any further setting my network up, I want to be sure that when my DVD w/key get's here I don't have to start over. I want to click Activate, enter the OEM key I received and be on my way without a re-install of the server. Thanks
glenrudy - An OEM key will not activate a Trial install and a Trial key will not activate an OEM install. You will need to do a reinstallation with the OEM DVDs.
Let's make sure that I understand the process. Right now, I have the trial version of WHS PP3 installed on a server. I need to (1) Purchase a WHS OEM CD, (2) SAVE my data on the shared folders, (3) Install (and thereby initialize) my server with the WHS EOM CD, (4) Restore my backed-up data to the shared folders.
ManInFull -
1.Make sure all data is set to duplicate
2.Boot off OEM DVD (Purchase)
3.Select Server Reinstallation (Not New Installation)
4.Input Windows Home Server key that you purchased
As any type of computer work, to avoid DATA loss, back up your DATA!
Hope that helps!
ManinFull, I have been using WHS for about a year now and love it. The process is very simple. If you have enough storage space for duplication make sure it is turned on. I have a USB drive that I use as an additional back-up (I hope you do too, it is cheap insurance these days). Insert the OEM DVD, select re-installation, and go get a sandwich. It imports all of your current settings and users. You Do NOT go back to square one!! I also would have preferred inputting the code and pressing on, but this is not a difficult process and certainly not a showstopper. Your WHS will be back to full operation in a few hours.
Tom
