One of the questions I get a lot is “Do you have a recommendation for a PC that’s light, small, cheap, looks great and has a long battery life?”
That may seem like a silly question – it kind of looks like the asker is looking for a laptop that does everything - but in today’s PC world it’s actually pretty easy to answer. One of my favorite answers to this question is the Sony VAIO Y, a beautiful, powerful little PC that you can get for $500. Check it out:
This is the next in the series of “PC Snapshots” - short 2-3 minute overview of PCs that Ryan and I think are awesome. If there’s a PC that you’d like to see us cover, hit me on Twitter, send me mail, or leave a comment. We’ll try to get to it ASAP!
Any PC which is as fast as Ubuntu and also cheap??
@techknackblogs: How about ASUS N43SL?

Except that it doesn't have a long battery life. I was thinking of getting the Vaio Y this year but most online reviews claim that the 5.5 to 6 hours is too optimistic, and that it's much closer to 3 hours on regular use. I ended up getting a HP dm1z, which OTOH, goes 5.5 to 6 hours in actual use (wifi and blue tooth on, 80%-90% brightness). I'd rather recommend that.
