It’s been quite a week at CES 2011 and before I sign off for a bit, I wanted to leave you with a few final thoughts:
Of course, there was a ton of great The trends that I noticed were really catching on this year were:
That’s all from me from CES 2011. Thanks for coming along for the ride! And remember, if you ever have any PC questions, you can hit me on Twitter, leave a comment in one of my posts, or Ask Ben Anything via email.
Imo, the most significant takeaway from CES 2011 is that laptops are seeing a significant bump in battery run times and HD streaming is not much of a question mark anymore. I agree with you, 3D is here to stay if only to be used in differentiating products. I'm looking forward to seeing how Windows OS takes advantage of this in the future. Intel's WiDi 2.0 also seems like a significant advancement...especially HDCP support. I just wish it was automatically available/integrated with Windows Extended Desktop mode and PlayTo capabilities. It might be, but I haven't seen this demonstrated. Microsoft's PixelSense was the most impressive new technology I've seen come out of CES. Depending on costs and Microsoft's interest to do so, I can see this replacing capacitive touchscreens. There were a few disappointments, chief among them is the lack of any specifics on how Microsoft plans on building a proper ecosystem for Slate devices. I was expecting to hear some info on a Windows 7 App Store and UI framework targetting this form factor.
I agree with JohnCz 100%. As I've written on this blog a couple times recently, I wish all of you at Microsoft would get it together on the tablet/slate front. This is the PERFECT opportunity for you to build on the Tablet PC concept you already have... keep TIP around, keep pen-enabled inking around as a requirement, AND expand on it with a touch-friendly modification to Windows. You need to be more than a "me-too" against Apple here, and you have had the ability since before Apple knew what a tablet was. USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!
