After 3 days on the show floor in Vegas, it’s nice to sneak away for a little peace and quiet. Darren Gladstone, HP’s Blogger-in-Chief, agreed with me, so we camped out in one of the Microsoft booth meeting rooms to talk about HP’s brand new, AMD Fusion powered Pavilion dm1, and the ultra-premium HP ENVY 3D.
Darren’s been living with the dm1 for a while now and even took it on his road trip from San Francisco to Las Vegas. Hooray for 9-hour battery life, gaming power and built-in 3G!
I’ll be at CES 2011 for the entire show, meeting with our hardware partners to get a behind-the-scenes look at their newest, most innovative gear. Keep up with me by following me on Twitter @BenThePCGuy, and let me know if you have any questions by sending me a tweet with the hashtag #askben
Re: HP ENVY 17 3D
Received my ENVY 17 3D a few days before January 1, 2011. Nice computer and still in learning mode. Found that I could download a free version of TriDef 3D Experience software to view and play with 3D. I installed Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX with Acceleration on the ENVY 17 3D. Using TriDef Ignition playing FSX is kind of neat with 3D. The airplanes have a 3D effect however the scenery is still 2D. Also some of the key commands don't seem to work. I joined the ddd forum but no workaround has been posted. Using FSX in 'normal mode' keyboard commands work as it does on my desktop computer.
Also tried Google Earth with the 3D plug-in, there are a few 3D views such as the Grand Canyon, Mount Everest and a few others.
siggy
3D screens sound so stupid. Do people really want this 3D garbage?
