November has arrived, which means day after day of gray skies and rain here in the Pacific Northwest. But I have a new theme to beautify and brighten your season – Harvest Time! For those of us in the United States, this theme comes just in time for Thanksgiving, but I designed it to celebrate harvests everywhere. Harvest Time has images from across the world and features many different crops, including olives, grapes, rice, wheat, corn, apples, and more.
Which brings me to the next topic… Do you ever look at the desktop wallpaper of your current theme and think, “Where was that picture taken?” or “I wish I knew what that is!” or “Who was the photographer?” Here’s how you can get more information on many of the pictures in the themes.
1. Open Personalization by right-clicking the desktop and choosing Personalize from the menu.
2. Click the theme that you want to get more information about.
3. Click Desktop Background.
4. Hover with your mouse pointer over the image to see a tooltip containing summary information about that image. The last line of the summary shows the title, which often includes location information.
5. To get even more information, select the one image you want information about (make sure it is the only one selected), right-click on it, and choose Properties.
6. Click on the Details tab. To see the full contents of any of the fields on this tab, hover over it with your mouse pointer.
I’m sorry to say that not every theme has information that you can find this way, but most do. It’s something I try to include as often as possible when I’m producing themes (or working with partners to produce themes) because I like to know more about the photos, so I figure other people probably want to know, too.
Why don’t we put the information right on the picture? Well, we thought about it, but decided it might be kind of distracting. So we tucked away that information in the metadata instead.
I hope this tip enhances your enjoyment of the themes… and that this new celebration of Harvest Time helps brighten your November.
I love you for these themes! They are soooo great)) Amazing! Will you make a Christmas theme and New Year theme? I always have troubles with finding pictures for them, but you have talent!
Wow, those are gorgeous. :)
This is a very nice theme. Maybe someone could come up with a gadget that would display the current wall paper infomation picture information
Jennifer - Thank you for answering my wish! Good to see photo metadata being taken seriously for once.
Awesome, thanks!
Also I second the Christmas theme! :)
Thanks, everyone, for the great comments! Keep your eyes open for a holiday theme to come out during Thanksgiving week... and more is in the works! :-)
Hi... I have seen several spectacular themes in Windows 7, some of which are photos of specific countries. Is it possible to volunteer some of my photos to start a theme for my country, the Philippines?
