Today, the Internet Explorer Team took over New York City’s Time Warner Center and San Francisco’s Justin Herman Plaza where local artists used food cans to create sculptures of the Empire State Building in New York and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. After the sculptures are completed, the cans will be donated.

It’s all part of our Browser for the Better campaign. Turns out that during the school year over 17 million U.S. children receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunches at their schools. But once the school year is ends and summer begins, these children longer receive this benefit as they are no longer in school until the fall. In response, we are joining forces with Feeding America to help these children this summer.
For every completed download of Internet Explorer 8 through the Browser for the Better website, we will donate the financial equivalent of 8 meals to Feeding America’s network of 206 local food banks. These food banks supply food to more than 25 million Americans each year! The Browser for the Better campaign starts today and will run through Aug. 8, 2009.
To also help kick off the campaign, the Browser for the Better website is hosting a series of new viral videos staring Dean Cain and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait which highlight features of Internet Explorer 8. Here is one of the 2 videos available today with 2 more coming soon!
Dean Cain is absolutely hilarious in these videos!
So what are you waiting for? Go download Internet Explorer 8 today and help us fight hunger in the United States this summer!
Oh and of course after downloading, give Internet Explorer 8 a try. Not only does it include features such as Web Slices and Accelerators for finding the information you want quickly on the web, it’s also fast and secure too.
ill download but i wont install ie8 i prefer firefox
as a side note funny seeing microsoft use youtube instead of there own video uploading site

Great initiative to support, especially in these hard economic times it is important that every American child gets fed, we often forget that hunger exsists not only in underdeveloped countries but also Im sad to say here at home in the U.S.A.
IE8 is a great browser and the cause is one that everyone can support.
Great timing for me to as I'm about to make a move from the West to East coast with my family next week and we will have a lot of spare canned food that will need to go to a good cause (theres no-way those cans will fit into the 16ft Penske truck for the cross country drive, man moving is expensive even with a discount, feels worse when your unemployed to boot!).
Anyway from the Feeding America website you can find the location of your nearest FoodBank, which is where my spare cans will go next week.
The statistical briefs on the Feeding America website are kind of shocking....

It's too bad I've already downloaded it!
I wish Microsoft would bring that "Search and Give" site again. I thought it was pretty good, and I'm disappointed it's gone now.
@zed260: I think it's pretty obvious that YouTube has a wider user base, so it's not like Microsoft can't do both.
My question to you is this, why not do it with a good heart just like that? Why this download stipulation? It really shows the mentality of the people running MS these days. It's not like MS is short of cash or anything..
This is a sadistic approach and is just exploitation. Do as we say else people will die of hunger.
Sorry I won't be a part of it regardless of whether you feed or not.

Microsoft arent asking you to install IE8 in order for them to donate to this charity, theyre only asking you to download IE8, The cost of that to you is a click or 2 and some bandwidth! Maybe not completely altruistic on Microsofts part... but they could just donate nothing!
This at least is helping people who like/want IE8 to help a charity at the same time, and given the installed userbase of IE7, thats a very generous offer indeed.
If you still want to help the hungry without downloading IE8 go here to another great site:

zed260, most of the videos we produce and post here on The Windows Blog are actually hosted on Microsoft Showcase (aka Microsoft Videos) at www.microsoft.com/videos which also utilizes Silverlight. The viral videos for Browser for the Better were uploaded to YouTube.
