As we previously announced, today the Windows 7 RC is now available for anyone interested in giving it a spin! Typically, a release candidate is the last development milestone before release to manufacturing (RTM), signifying that engineering and development have made significant advancements and that the code is entering the final phases of testing. Essentially, the Windows 7 RC is the result of a lot of the great feedback we received during the Windows 7 Beta. That’s why I’m so excited to use it and excited for YOU to use it!
So do you want to put the Windows 7 RC through its paces? Just like with the Windows 7 Beta, you can register to download the Windows 7 RC at the Windows 7 page on Windows.com.
You will be required to register in order to download the RC. This is where you will also be provided with a Product Key to activate your copy. Previously issued Product Keys for the Windows 7 Beta are not intended for continued use, we are recommending that you register and get a new Product Key for the Windows 7 RC.
The Windows 7 RC will be available for download as an ISO image which will need to be burned onto a DVD. Additionally, consistent with the Windows 7 Beta, the Windows 7 RC will be available in one edition – Windows 7 Ultimate.
The Windows 7 RC will be available in English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish and each language will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
Current Windows 7 Beta users please take note: we encourage you to NOT upgrade directly from the Windows 7 Beta to the Windows 7 RC. We are asking (and recommending) people either do a clean install or upgrade from Windows Vista SP1 – as these are the officially supported upgrade paths for Windows 7. For more information on the upgrade experience for the Windows 7 RC – see this post from the E7 Blog. On my PCs, I will be doing clean installs of the Windows 7 RC. While there is a workaround for doing a Beta-to-RC upgrade, I would like to ask you to join me in helping the Windows engineering team by using only the supported installation and upgrade paths for the Windows 7 RC.
Please remember: both the Windows 7 Beta AND Windows 7 RC will expire.
I suggest making plans to move to a released version of Windows well before the automatic shutdowns start to occur to prevent data loss. Remember, pre-release versions of Windows are unsupported.
As with any pre-release version of Windows – I recommend backing up your important data before installing it (see backup methods for Windows Vista, which also apply to Windows 7).
For more information on the Windows 7 RC, I suggest checking out the Windows 7 RC FAQ on Windows.com.
Be sure to spread the word - let your friends know to give the Windows 7 RC a spin! The Windows 7 RC will be available to people for download through July.
Thank you for testing out the Windows 7 Beta! Your feedback with the Windows 7 Beta has been essential in making Windows 7 a great Windows release! And we also appreciate your help with trying out the Windows 7 RC.
And of course as we’ve been saying for some time now, we are committed to making Windows 7 available within three years of the General Availability of Windows Vista.
Windows 7 RC is simply cool !!!
I downloaded the .iso from Technet, and extracted its contents using winrar. Next clicked on setup.exe to install. So I suppose that can be done too here. Right?
it was out 12 hours back, as my BW is 50KBs im still enjoying the download, CAnt wait till its over, Go 7 Go.
I am on it right now!!!
great stuff guys, can't wait to install on my work and home machines. no blank dvds here in the office so having to wait. and it's hard. so hard. :(
I'm almost done downloading!
I'll copy all files in the ISO image into my bootable USB for installing W7 RC in my Acer ONE, as I did for W7 Beta! yay!
Good news, shame that the download is unbearably slow for me.
i am running it and loving it.
now one question: how do i submit a bug that does not crash an app (those will be send automaticly).
calc has a bug (yes that little app)
I wonder why MS didnt make a torrent site to download RC (or other resources)...
So I'm putting this on my $300 e-Machine which ran the beta fine...planning on doing the fresh install. What are the chances of Win7 finding and configuring all my MB and built on graphics drivers? should I have my recovery disc ready to go to sniff out driver directories?
Windows 7 is definitely the best thing ever!
hey wats the build of this one?
downloaded - i've kept my machine clean of files, so all I really need to do is reformat the HDD and install the RC over the beta. I'm excited to see what all has been changed/enhanced/added!
Hello, I don't have it but when is the actual release of Final Version??
Hey Indy
cud u let me no wats the build of the Current RC?
Aaaand the RC is still vulnerable to the UAC flaw: www.pretentiousname.com/.../win7_uac_whitelist2.html
I'm trying it out right now, but I have a small problem. I set the task manager's icon to always display in the notification area, but it keeps resetting on restart to be notifications only. What is with this bug?
Great, maybe I'll have time to download and install Windows 7 RC before the the weekend when the new Star Trek movie comes out, lots of spoliers in that latest trailer, but certainally looks very cool.
Thats very generous that the RC will be active for so long, which should give most users plenty of time to transition to Windows 7.
Wow download is done, Im off.
Hi Brandon
Could you tell me the md5 hash values for the iso? I'm not sure my computer has downloaded the complete file since I had left the download on overnight and this morning when I woke up the computer had automatically shutdown
Thanks a ton
Well, I have to say the lack of feedback tool really, really sux.
There is lots you haven't fixed. Not to mention it won't let me run Virtual PC 2007, and my EeePC doesn't support the 'VT' bit.
The Contacts folder isn't really a Contacts folder anymore.
So much change without another Beta or opportunity for public feedback???
I'm so freaking disappointed with this milestone.
The Beta, you did an awesome job.
This.... this just sux. Big time. The RC install has been one of the worst I've done.
The import/export settings was great, except it didn't keep settings for Libraries. Had to recreate my WMP database because of that oversight.
I feel let down Microsoft. I've been using the RC less than a day. And I'm already disappointed.
The rush to RC without a second beta, with this much change... I think that was unwise.
Very, very disappointed.
I had an idea that should be an easy and nice UI addition to windows 7. When a user holds down the win key you should overlay the numbers 1-0 on the first 10 icons in the taskbar. This way it is easy for the user to identify the 10 hotkeys they can use to launch or show those programs.
I'd also love the ability to rearrange the individual windows of a grouped program on the windows 7 taskbar.
keep up the good work guys!
Still hoping against hope for those final shell/Windows Explorer fixes like size and free space on status bar, optional autosort and security tab back for multiple items and ability to disable jumplists,.otherwise I'm happy with XP.
Well so far so good. I do like the interface. The only issue is Win7's integration with firewall and anti-virus programs. Trend micro claims that their Win7 beta integrates well, but no luck. The program runs fine, scans fine etc, but Win7 action center still reports the firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus to be off. Very easy to use. Other then looking pretty and being a little faster, I am still looking for other vast improvements at this point. Running stable for the last 8 hours, so we will see....
Hi There,
I have an issue. I downloaded the Windows 7 RC from the following website:
www.microsoft.com/.../download.aspx
I Extracted the ISO file to a folder then imported the boot.wim and install.wim to my WDS server. Booted a client in PXE mode and loaded Windows 7 boot.wim. I then lauched the installation and everything worked fine until I get to the product key window.
I entered two of the generated product key and the setup routine won't accept them. The error I get is the following:
The product does not match current Windows SKU...
Can someone shed some light on this? Is it not accepting the product key because it's deployed with WDS?
Thanks,
Christian
I am an IT PROFESSIONAL and an IT ENTRENEUR. I am as well excited about this WINDOWS 7.0 since I have used almost all WINDOWS versions way back.
I am thinking if this WINDOWS 7.0 RELEASE CANDIDATE is allowed to be tested in a BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT like in INTERNET CAFE and GAMING SHOPS?
If yes, then we can install it to 10-20 computers at an internet cafe and check for its COMPATIBILITY with NETWORK GAMES and its PERFORMANCE at par with WINDOWS XP, which is the best OS so far for Internet Gaming.
If this is allowed, it will do 2 things. It will provide the WINDOWS 7.0 DEVELOPER TEAM enough data to better and improve WINDOWS 7.0 in terms of its viability for the INTERNET CAFE / GAMING INDUSTRY.
It will also do good for SMALL BUSINESSES like in the PHILIPPINES who currently are suffering due to the GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS and the FEAR OF RAIDS and CONFISCATIONS of EQUIPMENTS due to lack of WINDOWS LICENSES.
By having the WINDOWS 7.0 RC for 1 year free of use, they can earn and gather enough financial resources to LEGALIZE their SOFTWARES like WINDOWS XP and be safe from RAIDING TEAMS that confiscates lifetime-worth of savings and investments once caught with lack of software licenses.
More so, instead of them rushing to buy the cheaper WINDOWS VISTA STARTER, they can use WINDOWS 7.0 RC for testing and for operation until such time that they have sufficient resources to either buy WINDOWS XP, WINDOWS VISTA or WINDOWS 7.0.
A license cost almost P8000 here and if you have 10-20 computers in an internet shop, you need to invest P80,000 to P160,000 which is already a fortune this recession time. If WINDOWS 7.0 is allowed to be tested in this INTERNET CAFE INDUSTRY, it will help alot of struggling small businesses.
Any comments and suggestions?
When is the RTM being released?
Hello Ryan Ericson Canlas,
i read ur view and till an extent it is great, but think abt the customisations the INTERNET CAFE / GAMING INDUSTRY will hav to do in order to meet the requirements of Windows 7.
They will need to upgrade the foll.
RAM
Graphics
HDD
Processors
Better Quality / Heavy Duty Motherboards.
There is no doubt that windows 7 can run max. no of games and i think its the best windows so far , anyhow better than XP even. But for the gaming industry they will hav to do upgardes wich i mentioned above as far as my view is concerned.
By the way ur point is damn good abt the raids that they can use Win 7 RC as the licence expires in 2010.
So, lets see who all agree wid ur point.
I M WID U....... :)
Problem downloading. :(
Im using:
Intel Pentium-D 3.40Ghz (945)
Kingston 2GB DDR2 667h
ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard
340GB SATA-II 7200rpm harddrive
Geforce 6600GT 256M GDDR3 PCI-E grapics card
...etc.
When downloading the RC; after clicking download, it goes to another page (some Java page) and then returns to the same previous download page. If i click download again, the same cycle starts...
Any suggestions would be greately appreciated. Ps, i use Windows XP SP3 with Kaspersky 2009 at the moment...
Cheers!
jus download it via torrents but see to it that it is a verified torrent by user votes.....

Look! I minimize opened windows by pressing win + m. And then if press win + m again (so I pressed them twice or more) I can't restore windows back by pressing Win + shift + m!!
There is bug I think. However, Windows 7 is the best thing ever!
I am english living in Sweden and bought a Notebook with Vista HP - but it's in Swedish. If I upgrade with 7RC can I change the OS language over to English from the Vista HP swedish?
I am running the new RC now!,
I can't believe how much better this runs in respect to XP.
Problem, when I run outlook, the only e-mail that doesn't work properly is my MSN account. I constantly requires that I verify the password 3 times before it will look on. Don't understand how every other e-mail address that is not MS will work with no problem and an MSN email won't?
Other than that everything seems to be working great. again, I can't believe how fast this boots!
Great job MS - hope we can fix this minor problem
Wes
Office on the Beta worked fine, RC1 has problems with Office 2007. Powerpoint is constantly crashing, word is hinky. Un-installed and re-installed office with same results.
quoted -- " Please remember: both the Windows 7 Beta AND Windows 7 RC will expire. "
i've just (may 7th) installed windows 7 build 7000, and if i type "slmgr.vbs/xpr" on the "command prompt" then got the message :
"Windows (R) 7, Ultimate edition : The machine is permanently activated" .... is it normal ???
Two items that are re-occuring. 1st is that everytime my computer goes into a sleep state, it disconnects my network connection, and upon re-awakening, it claims that the network connection is unplugged. I have to disable the connection and then enable it, and then all works well. 2nd, is that everytime I open windows media player under RC, it rebuilds the music library from scratch. I have not figured that one out yet.
All in all, I think Windows 7 is absolutely magnificent, and I have it running on a number of machines in my shop and at home. Keep up the good work!
hi sir i have buyed the windows-07 but i dont have the key please send me the key for that to my mail adress i.e..,hariram17@gmail.com

Where do you go to post issues you find? I found an interesting problem with Geforce 6800 XT configuratiion with SLI. It may be a known issue but I can not seem to find the issue on Nvida's site nor Microsoft site.
I'm having problems downloading the RC version. I'm currently running the Beta version and it is shutting down every couple of hours which stops the download. The FAQs state that if the download is interrupted it can be restarted by clicking on the icon on the desktop which will resume the download. There is no icon! This has happened twice and its getting really frustrating starting all over again.
I've seen you can download from torrents, if I do this, can I use the product key that was provided to me at sign-up?
Please help!
