Where is the the Windows live DVD? If I'm going to pay that much for Win7 then I want my life made easier. Ironically, last week I used the Ubuntu live CD to repair a Windows partition that was blue screening after a partition re-size went wrong. It was just so much easier compared to what Windows offers.
When are we going to get a unified file system? Drive letters suck.
Why can't I run items in Control Panels as a different user easily with Vista and Win7? I can do it easily in XP, so why not Vista/Win7?
When I run a program/script as a different user, why does Vista/Win7 forget which directory it is running from? I can see that it is defaulting to the directory for the user I'm 'running as'. This breaks stuff and is causing frustration. This has been working fine in Unix for the past couple of decades. So why not Windows?
For smaller companies like my clients the expense of upgraing their machines to a new OS, including any hardware upgrades it would require and my time, would be rediculous.
The least expensive way for them to upgrade is through attrition, or, if they are in a finincial position to do so, complete technology refresh of their workstations with the current OS.
Unfortunately, 7 will have to pay for the sins of Vista and most clients are sticking with XP Pro even on new workstations. Plus, with MS supporting XP for another 4 years, this is the choice I recommend.
