Today we are announcing the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. SP2 represents the latest step in Microsoft’s commitment to continuous improvement. It includes all updates that have been delivered since SP1, as well as support for new types of hardware and emerging hardware standards.
As we have mentioned before, here are some of the key benefits of Windows Vista SP2:
And since it comes with a single installer for both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, SP2 will be easy for IT Pros to manage, deploy, and support. For a complete overview of the changes introduced in SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, check out the notable changes document on TechNet.
Business customers with Windows Vista will find that the transition from Windows Vista to Windows 7 will be significantly more straightforward due to the high degree of compatibility between Windows Vista and Windows 7. If your Windows Vista SP1 deployment is already underway we recommend you continue with SP1 as planned. Then you can deploy SP2 using your systems management infrastructure. If you are in the early stages of deployment or still planning Windows Vista deployment our best advice is that you plan on testing and deploying Windows Vista SP2. We expect Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 to be publicly available in Q2 2009.
As a quick reminder, Windows Vista SP1 Service Pack Blocker Tool is being removed today, as we announced back in January. For customers who previously had the blocker tool in place, Windows Vista SP1 will now be offered to them via Windows Update.

mehall, not sure what you are talking about. In regards to the servers that power this blog - they are Windows Server and are in the central time zone.
I think mehall was talking about exFAT working across OSes as well as Timezone. My question is why is the Beta of SP2 still on Technet and it shows as being updated today? Shouldn't the Beta be pulled now that RTM is done? Any clues as to when RTM will be available for download?
Big question the confuses me; like XP-SP2 which can be bought directly by means of an independant disk, will Vista-SP2 also be released as an independant disk? And is RTM that stage? If not, how long will it take to reach that stage?

Hw do I turn off media sharing in Windows 7? I don't want to share anything but for some reason you've hidden that option away.
lolht, in the Start menu search box, type "sharing". The select "Manage advanced sharing settings". There you should be able to control what is shared etc.

Normally, when something is announced, there is also a release date included. "Bruce Springsteen releases new DVD from the Devils and Dust tour sometime next year." Who would take that announcement serious? Not I.
In 2 weeks we will be halfway through Q2 2009, so maybe you can get closer to a release date by then? Maybe sometime in June?

I am having a problem with windows that you might have answers to. I have a new Laptop that has never been hooked up to an internet connection due to my recent deployment to Afghanistan and I have never downloaded anything except a few games right out of the box. when I create a folder on the desktop I get to the 3 letter and my windows shuts down and restarts....I am running Windows Vista premium. This makes it very difficult to track whats on my desktop...Any answers will help ...Thank You
When Will Service Pack 2 Be available for downloading?

Today sees the release of Microsoft Windows Vista and Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Can I update my SP2 v.113 beta to RTM without reformatting? Sadly I have ran the SP cleaner, so I'm not able to uninstall the v.113 beta SP2 :(. I hope any dev/mod can help me in this problem. Thanks

I already see a problem with it.
I have Ultimate and it removed ALL the language support except for the 5 it lists that SP2 supports.
Now when if 7 coming out? I am tired of being "wowed"
