Hi, Mike Nash here from the Windows Product Management group at Microsoft. Today we are excited to announce that we have released Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista to manufacturing (RTM) for our first set of languages (English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese).
Service Pack 1 is a very important milestone because it addresses many of the key issues that our customers have identified with Windows Vista over the last year both, directly and through programs like the Customer Experience Improvement Program. With Service Pack 1, we have made great progress in performance, reliability and compatibility. One of the great things about my job is that I get to play with the latest builds of our products -- I've personally been running Windows Vista SP1 pretty exclusively for a few months and I've noticed that my systems run faster and more reliably than they did with the "Gold" release of Windows Vista.
When we first released Windows Vista last year, there were lots of customers who had great experiences, but some had issues finding applications that worked well on Windows Vista; others had problems finding the right device drivers for some of the hardware devices that they used. The reason for these issues is that in order to improve the reliability and security of Windows Vista, we made some important architectural changes to the system. While this caused some issues in the short term, in the long term we know that these investments will improve both the reliability and security of the customer experience on Windows. Check out this blog post about the first year of Windows Vista security to see how some of these changes are paying off.
The good news is that this last year has been a great year of progress for Windows Vista in terms of improving application and device compatibility. For example, 98 out of the top-selling 100 applications have versions available for Windows Vista. And through the great work of our hardware partners, we now have 78,000 devices and components supported by Windows Update, up from about 34,000 in November 2006. As a result, we have licensed over 100 million copies of Windows Vista to date.
Service Pack 1 brings new improvements that are based on feedback we heard from our customers. It further improves the reliability and performance of Windows Vista. The information we collect thanks to tools like the Customer Experience Improvement Program, Online Crash Analysis, and Windows Error Reporting help us learn about where and when customers are having issues with Windows Vista and the applications that run on it. Since these issues have a direct impact on our customers' experiences, we've invested time and energy to make this better. While Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is an important milestone, we will continue to invest in the continuous improvement process.
SP1 also includes changes focused on improving the performance of Windows Vista in areas that impact the customer experience the most. For instance, with SP1, copying or moving files around your PC, your home network or your corporate network should now be much faster -- up to 50% faster in some scenarios (according to our internal tests). In addition, on many kinds of hardware, resuming a Windows Vista-based PC from sleep is faster on Service Pack 1.
The key learning over the last year is that when we change the operating system, it takes time to let the ecosystem make sure that the hardware and software that they build works well with Windows Vista. So as we release Windows Vista SP1 to manufacturing, we are going to be thoughtful about when and how it gets distributed.
With today's RTM of SP1, a number of processes kick off as we deliver the update to customers. Our OEM partners will get SP1 and start producing new PCs running Windows Vista with SP1 pre-installed. We will also start the manufacturing process for retail product of Windows Vista with SP1. Both will be available in stores for new Windows Vista customers in the coming months. Today we also start the process to manufacture DVDs for our enterprise customers who get our software via our Volume Licensing program.
As we update our customers to SP1, we want everyone to have a great install experience. We are going to stage our rollout of SP1 for current Windows Vista users to be approximately concurrent with the availability of Windows Vista SP1 on new PCs and in stores. There are a couple of reasons for this. Our beta testing identified an issue with a small set of device drivers. These drivers do not follow our guidelines for driver installation and as a result, some beta participants who were using Windows Vista and updated to Service Pack 1 reported issues with these devices. Because the issue was with the way the drivers were installed and not the drivers themselves, the solution was simply to reinstall the drivers. While this worked fine for our more technical beta testers, we want to deliver a better experience for customers as we make the update broadly available.
While we know that most customers who update from Windows Vista to SP1 will NOT be affected, our approach is to improve the experience for all our customers. To do this, we will begin making SP1 available through Windows Update in mid-March, giving us time to work with some of our hardware partners to make adjustments to the installation process for the affected drivers. As SP1 gets delivered through Windows Update, we will only offer it to PCs that we detect don't have any of the affected device drivers installed. We're taking the next month or so to continue our work of identifying as many of these devices as possible.
Here's the timing for SP1 availability for current Windows Vista users:
New customers should feel great about buying Windows Vista today, knowing that when everything is ready, SP1 will be available to them via Windows Update. In the meantime, remember that you can take advantage of the benefits of Windows Vista (including many improvements delivered via Windows Update) even without Service Pack 1.
This is an important milestone for our current and future Windows Vista customers around the world. I want to take a minute to thank our customers for their feedback on Windows Vista and the beta of Service Pack 1. I also want to thank our hardware and software partners for their continued efforts to deliver the best experiences on Windows Vista.
-Mike
Congratulations :)
Wait, what?
"In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and to the download center on microsoft.com."
So it's done ... but we won't be able to actually get it for another six weeks? That would be incredibly frustrating.
I understand that it won't be pushed via Windows-Update right away.
But why would we have to wait another six weeks for a download center download?

Pls Link for Download in Italy
script??
Great news, for both SP1 and Server 2008!
Just wish we could get our hands on it earlier. PAtience has never been one of my strong points :)

possiamo sperare in uno script per scaricare prima SP1??
non sarebbe giusto attendere tutto questo tempo da Windows Update non credi??
that silly having to wait.
anyone with bit of sense could reinstall some drivers
and we have to wait till march before it on download centre?
When will MSDN and Technet subscribers be able to download SP1? MSDN can download server 2008....
Please allow us to download this manually from the Microsoft Download center. I just did fresh installs of Vista x64 on all my machines in anticipation of the release. Six weeks is too long to wait for the performance increase alloted by SP1. Thanks!
@cwagz
you have a Link?????????
Thats got to the most stupid thing i've read yet....
WHAT DO YOU THINKS GONNA HAPPEN TODAY/TOMORROW >????
It will be on bit torrent and other sites LEAKED
Face the facts you have a download everyone wants they are going to get it however they can.
Do you really want that to be the way your customers get their major updates ????
WAKE UP!!!
hey
in Ultimate (MUI pack lenguage) it s possible Istall SP1 ????????????????????????????
I strongly agree... Waiting until March to release it on Microsoft.com is a mistake! If it's done, even if it's only the English version, get it out the door as quickly as possible! Otherwise, what was the point of announcing it so early, if nobody can get it for 6 weeks?
crpietschmann
I think in this day we have a link to download sp1 (im italian)
Waiting any longer is a mistake indeed. Returning customers are gold, so treat them as such.
This is the kind of mindless arrogance that have to be expected from the great minds of Microsoft. People will simply not wait another 6-10 weeks to get their grossly premature OS somewhat patched up
This is what for sure will happen the next few days: More or less orginal pathes and SP1 intigrated disks will spread on filesharing networks like a rapid fire, and people will download them.
Team of SP1 PLS respond to my question
i Have Vista Ultimate and Mui Pack
i Can istall SP1 English in Italy????????
Great to 'hear' that it has RTM'd though a 6 week wait for testers that have not had a problem is a bit of a stretch.
And you have gone from 34,000 to 78,000 Drivers which is great so how about you add one more driver to that for your own Microsoft Fingerprint Reader on the x64 platform or at least give us an official reply in the TechNet forums as to why you won't write drivers for your own hardware.
http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2785316&SiteID=17
Cheers,
Stephen
Is there a reason for the waiting time til mid-march?
When it's ready - release it.
When it's not ready - delay it.
I can't see really the benefit of an RTM Version of SP1 when I can't have it.
That's great news. But also a frustrating anti-climax. We now have to wait another 6 weeks? Why are OEMs more important than the Systems Administrators that run 100s of MS products on thousands of PCs, laptops and servers every day on corporate networks (for our sins!). Why not put it on Connect or the downloads site?
I agree. I can understand the delay for Auto Update also, but why would it take six weeks to get the manual download ready for those of us who want to experiment? Unless maybe they are training their support staff, it makes no logical sense.
Now if you folks could just fix Office 2007.
Great, SP1 is finished, but you won't release it for another 6 weeks. Must be the stupidest announcement I have ever read. 5 years to get Windows Vista ready, almost 1 1/4 years to get service pack 1 ready... your pace at getting out new products must be the slowest in the industry. And now you are artificially making it even slower by just waiting doing nothing for 6 weeks. Unbelievable.
Thanks Vista Team ! Waiting for the SP1 RTM. Have been running SP1 RC ref.. I think its almost as good as RTM. Right? I haven't faced any problem with SP1 RC.
Just blogged about Vista RTM :
http://vasudevg.blogspot.com/2008/02/windows-vista-service-pack-1-windows.html
You should put it online and not delay it ... im not sure you know how many people are awaiting sp1...
Great news! I wish it was available earlier though.
César :)
That has got to be the one of the worst excuses I have heard for announcing the RTM of a product and then telling your paying customers they must now wait 6 weeks to acquire it. Did you even run this past one person outside of Microsoft for input? This is going to be wildly rejected by your user community and most loyal supporters. You are, in essence, pushing people to download this as soon as it leaks (and it will).
Allow it to be downloaded manually as you have for every other SP you have ever put out. I don't see the logic in forcing the public to wait for OEMs to create new PC's with SP1 and retail packaging so we can all experience this small group of device driver failures in unison. If you think this small set of drivers will get fixed in the next six weeks, just say so and be honest. And then release it anyway and inform us of the risks. We can then intelligently decide to install it or not. Delay only the auto updates.
Congrats, celebrate, etc. We all know by now that SP1-RTM is announced!
Now...take action and introduce it to the customers (your real audience!!!).
Oh good they released it to Manufacturing.....WOW...Who cares what about the loyal customers who have been running Vista since the CTP, Cmon Microsoft, we are the techs who make this stuff work for you, and now we have done the testing and feedback only to be told we have to wait until mid March or april...Thats a JOKE
Echoing many of the comments here... I can totally appreciate not wanting to release for auto-update customers yet, but for us IT pros, why not release it somewhere (TechNet, MSDN, Connect, or something) so we can begin testing it? A lot of folks are also waiting for SP1 before deploying Vista (or even evaluating Vista), so why not give them a leg up by offering it at least for download?
Congrats on shipping it! :)
What is the build/version number of SP1? Does the retail (with SP1) media have the same build number? Will there be an official way to order SP1 integrated media for current Vista users if they provide their product key online?
SP1 Rtm in order

Thx Boys
I cant see why Microsoft would hold off releasing Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista, this needs to be out today, why announce it if its not ready.
Fair enough there is a bug and a minor one at best, how many people wouldn't mind reinstalling their drivers.
Microsoft could easily release a hotfix to fix the issue.
GET IT OUT THE DOOR
C'mon. Give it to us now. It can't be any worse than what you gave us a year ago.
I know this won't make any difference, but let me say it too that this decision is, well, stupid. I can understand, and actually support, the delay on Windows Update, cause that where people who don't want any headache get their update. But for some people out their, reinstalling driver is nothing compare to waiting another six weeks. Just make it available somewhere, put a warning on that, and let the person who download it make their own decision.
Congratulations on release SP1...to who I don't know.
Technology Experience (Reborn)
non è uscito proprio niente,
è la prima volta che vedo un RTM senza nessuna possibilità di downloadper nessuno
SELAMAT MAJU JAYA BUAT TEAM VISTA SP1. SALAM SAYANG DARI KAMI DI MALAYSIA!
Make it available to the more technical users that want to download it now then push it out via WU in six weeks. Surely the more technical users are smart enough to get around the driver problem if it affects them and shouldn't have to wait because of other users that is just stupid.
Why even announce that SP1 is RTM if you aren't going to let users have it? Sounds stupid to me! Didn't your mother or father teach you that teasing isn't nice?
I have two systems with Vista... one has 386 problems awaiting "solutions" in the "Problem Reports & Solutions" queue, while the other has 254.
I don't know if SP1 will help with any of those problems, but I'd sure like to see SP1 released on Windows Update... NOW!
Additionally, will a list of the conflicting/bad drivers be published so that users that have them will even know? Once SP1 is finally released, it certainly would be nice to be able to know what is causing SP1 to not show up in Windows Update.
I get a feeling that this post has been made to quieten down the crowds more than anything else.
You state that certain users have a problem with SPECIFIC drivers, well surely that means you aware of which drivers this affects and would be working on resolving that issue ??? so why include something you know thats broken within a service pack to manufacturers ? or does this problem not apply to new installs only on upgrades ??
Theres plenty of people reading this right now, that installed the beta versions of sp1 since its release and tested it for you guys(myself included). And managed to work around any problems that installing it created.
If this release is good enough for manufacturers , then surely its good enough for the people thats paid money for the o/s and spent the past year being a beta tester.
Not that i wanna tell you how to do your job, but why didn't you simply put up a post saying that sp1 was very close to completion and would be rolled out to everyone by the end of mar. By the time that boxed versions of vista with sp1 integrated reaches the shop shelf then it would already have been available on WU.
We have waited this long, so 6 weeks ain't going to make a big difference. But you have probably just cut your bandwidth charges by 80% for the year by announcing its availably from todays date...... was that the plan :D
hey everyone at Microsoft I am a happy vista user that makes software, anyway I hope this fixes the "irq not less or equal" error, it drives me crazy!
What were you guys thinking. This reeks. Why can't I have the bits if they are gold and if I'm willing to take the risk with my drivers? This is one of the all time worst moves from a PR perspective you've ever made. Even you must admit that kind of accomplishment is not easily done.
Give us SP1. No excuses.
Well Im running the beta, but the final RTM would be nicer :-)
Congrats Guys
por que hacen el anuncion con bombo y platillos si para nosotros, el usuario común estará hasta dentro de seis semanas más.
no encuentro la razón para tanto alboroto
TO Mike Nash, Sp1 team, Ballmer , Gates, Evangelist & CO.
I Wont comprise the position than Microsoft regarding Italian user.
Yesterday Mike Nash it has been announced Vista SP1 RTM to March for English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese.
Since Italian we are still a enough valid country special way regarding Spain and France, possible that we have been puttinges from part?
considering that sp1 it is multilenguage in order which reason you have discarded to us?
I write to name of all Italian mine comunity I assure and you that we are in that we offer support for those which the persons are our acquaintances to all who have adopted Vista (but also xp)
I make you this appeal in order to at least receive SP1 with to France, Spain, England and German its Possible ???
We cannot be puttinges to an equal level to the Teleban .
dovella and Italian Waiting Response
I have Vista Ultimate installed with a MSDN licence key and it has already downloaded the Service Pack 1 via Auto Updates.
Let the Plebs wait
I hope all the bugs are fixed, because the bug reporting program was bugged itself, and could not send any reports in.
I hope at least the IQR conflict freezes the whole computer problem is fixed.
And the folder view problems, not every folder is full of music and videos (program.exe "Date taken" ?, nor do i want other folders changing t giant thumbs because i did so on some other folder).
And something that pops up and tells users they need to update their vista experience rating. So many people complaining, glass disappeared.
And that typing in the start menu covers games. So many people could not find Supreme commander because of this.
I hope search is back on the right mouse click menu. Stuff the EU, they can have vista basic.
And i hope the most annoying bug of all, plugging in your PDA to charge, while watching a video. No one want media player trying to play the music on their PDA, and cancel their video.
And don't forget, the images, that show as a squashed line, both in thumbs and preview. but show perfectly fine even in windows paint.
And last but not least, the login to fast bug that also affects XP, if you login to fast, some services fail to start, and some programs fail to start.
I hope i can slip stream this SP, as installing the Nvidia 680i is a barstool of a thing to install vista on.

Hrm.. Sounds like a thinly veiled delay to me. To annouce RTM and then effecitvely say "we're working on it still" is contradictory, no? Either it's done or it is not. What I get from this is that it has been delayed until March pending the resolution of driver issues.
Quite frankly I would let the vendor handle this because they were the ones to ship the drivers that did not follow the guidelines. There is a reason that they are published and it should be known that they need to be followed. A hard line approach might bolster the efforts to stabilize the operating system. Maybe then the MBS group would do the same and stop telling their users to disable UAC on the latest Dynamics GP release.
I am so disappointed in Microsoft. Is it done, or isn't it? As a Partner, I need to see this stuff and get my testing done so I can try and make some inroads with my customers. 6 weeks to wait for a download is 6 more weeks that Microsoft won't sell Vista to businesses.
6 weeks is 6 more weeks that those of use who bought Vista, used it, tested it, provided feedback, and have been dealing with the problems, have to wait.
Put it up on Microsoft's download site with a warning on the drivers and let your IT Pros have 6 weeks to kick the tires so that we can provide support when SPI comes out via Windows update.
Geez! This would seem so obvious.
I would call it a bad marketing move to mention that SP1 was RTM when it has not been (and from all indications will not be prior) released to Partners/MSDN chains. Does Microsoft seriously expect to release SP1 into the wild without developers having any chance to see what it will do to their software? And don't give me the release candidate crap - we all know that the final is never the same product.
With a product that will be so likely to cause so many problems for software developers, I just can't believe that Microsoft would go RTM ahead of releasing SP1 to the developers. To me Microsoft is just kicking us developers in the gut... it's like saying "we don't care how much crap you had to go through to get things working with Vista (or that we gave you far more lead time to do it before it was released to the public) we are going to release it and you will have to deal with it. I just hope Microsoft will see the errors of it's ways and release the SP1 final to the developers soon (like today).
I really think this was the dumb thing to do on Microsoft part. Getting us geered up to anticipate SP1 final release a rtm. Then say sorry we are holding it back for another 6 weeks because of drivers.
I also think it's a bad marketing move to mention sp1 wass rtm. If Microsoft wants new customers to buy Vista, then they should at least release this to the Microsoft download site. Let us customers take advantage to see if it works for us. I'm not saying release it to windows update, that can wait for another 6 weeks, while they figure out what driver problems there are. So Microsoft, let us have Windows Vista Sp1 RTM so we can try it. If it doesn't work, but I believe it will. The beta's worked only a few problems, and I see within the papers of SP1 that these problems are fixed for me.
Does anybody really think this is going to fix things?
Well, Mike, thanks - I suppose. You guys don't understand 'interdependency', do you. Beta testers, developers and the like, companies and enthusiasts, collectively we do a huge amount to help you develop and refine your software. But when it comes to the crunch, you behave like any monopolist. 6 weeks! - with (apparently) no early release mechanism for those who give you so much (often free) assistance. Good god, I thought you'd learned a lesson with the SP1 refresh. Apparently not. There's time to change your mind....
Can Vista search in SP1 finally index TIF files?
Hey Netweb: The MS keyboard fingerprint reader was Certified for Windows XP but does not appear to have been Certified for Windows Vista yet; this may explain the lack of an x64 driver. I've contacted the MS Hardware team and learned that they're in the process of getting the device in question logo certification, so when this occurs, the driver will be made available.
Hey everyone: I'm reading all comments posted here to Mike's entry and forwarding your sentiments on timing to the SP1 Release team. I for one understand where you're coming from and am making that case accordingly; if anything changes, we'll announce it here on the blog. Thanks for your enthusiasm!
Mike,
Congrats on getting the product release out the door.
One question, is the "we have licensed over 100 million copies of Windows Vista to date" number based on the data gathered by machines checking in via Windows Update (Windows Genuine Advantage), or is it based on the more nebulous sales number of copies "sold"?
Since both Windows XP and Windows Vista are now requiring/using the Windows Genuine Advantage, do you have concrete numbers available on the ratio of the two (XP vs. Vista) based on actual machines in use? I.e., 25% of the Windows-based PC population, 50%, 65% are running Vista vs. XP, based on machines checking in to get updates & patches.
Cheers!
Merka Phoenix
Nick,
Thanks for looking out for us. My machines run better with SP1 (RC) and I really would like to get the final bits installed!
Chad
Hey duncan_J: on my PC, TIF (and TIFF) files are indexed by default and therefore show up in search results; I have not modified this setting since installation, so it should be the same case for you. You can change the file types that your system indexes by going to Control Panel | Indexing Options | Advanced | File Types, then choosing the file types you wish to have indexed. Hope this helps.
Provide it to the MSDN and TechNet subscribers as soon as possible.
I heard that SP1 does not be provided to MSDN subscribers until March.
http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1151
We are testing the drivers or the applications that may cause the problems as you say. And we are paying the money to the subscriptions.
If the new softwares are not provided quickly, the subscriptions are meaningless.
To Nick: Thanks for your kind input. Unfortunately, it's the OCRed text inside TIF files that is not getting indexed.
@Nick White: pleased to hear you're taking the comments back. I'm not a paid subscriber or an IT pro: but here's a small anecdote. I'm an enthusiast and free help-desk for 5 households (god help me)- 18 computers in all. Most of them are paranoid about converting to Vista; it's my experiences (as an 'early adopter') they're checking. I've been reassuring them since SP1 RC and some of them are close to purchase. It ain't just the pro's who need to test/satisfy themselves in advance of deployment (or delivery via WU). It's also the army of amateurs like me (who populate places like TechNet). For god's sake, give us too some form of advance pre-release access - along the lines that happened with SP1 refresh...
I think it should just be made avaialble to who ever wants to install it. I am quite capable of addressing any driver issues that I may have. I did not have any under the the release candidate and do not expect that I will have any with SP 1 - if I do have a driver problem then that is my issue and I will address it. Those that are not comfortable with installing it can wait for WU, those that want it now should be able to get it from the download centre. I unistalled the rc in anticipation of the sp being released and I can not even go back to the rc as it is no longer avaialable and some of my issues that were fixed with the SP have come back. Please let us have it now.
Do not mean to appear to be rude, but who cares about the manufacuters.... I build my own pc's - i source the case, motherboard and all the otehr bits and put it together myself - why should I wait till they get there products soughted before I get to install SP 1 and fix some of my issues. I have been using Vista since it was a beta - I want SP 1 now to fix these issues.... otherwise with the next upgrade I do in March - it will be a move to a new platform altogether.
i can see my vista dvd going in the bin at this rate and putting xp back on. i dont see why we are ment to go out and spend so much money on an os and can then not even get up dates for it that it so needs right now xp is so much better than vista at the moment anyway
Great!!!
I am and I can also speak on behalf I think of all the users regarding x64 drivers for the Fingerprint Reader that we are extremely grateful that you followed this up and many thanks.
Stephen Edgar
I wonder when it will be available in different languages like czech for instance.
Where?

OK. I know I'm echoing many other folks comments here but...
That has got to be the most ridiculous thing I've heard from M$ to date!
Why on earth tell the community at large that a long awaited SP is complete but you can't have it yet because we're giving it to manufactures first? Whaaaat?? I can understand and even support not releasing it immediately to WU to give IT folks and developers a head start but not releasing it to the download center, MSDN, TechNet?? Effectively leaving all of us in the IT community who have helped test and work through the issues out in the cold for six more weeks?? If it's an OEM driver installation issue then let the manufacturers wait and deal with it. Why should I have to wait when I've experienced no driver issues with any of the BETAs or RCs? And why even release it to them if the SP is flawed? That absolutely makes no sense! Just release it with a known issues comment and let us make the decision to install or not. Or just tell us it's not ready yet. We're used to that. There are many perfectly capable IT folks that would rather get the download and possibly reinstall a driver set than have the decision made for us to have to wait another 6 weeks (or more knowing M$)! After all we are the ones that have suffered through another less than perfect OS release and support thousands of systems in the corporate world.
Way to go M$! I have long been a user, supporter, engineer for M$ products but it's decisions like this that make me want to retool for the alternatives!
hey Nick
Now you start work SP2
:D :D :D
Glad to see that SP1 is finally here! I've been running the RC on my 64-bit machines and they are humming along.
Mid-march won't come soon enough!

Glad to hear that SP1 is RTM!
As an IT professional I am disappointed that Microsoft does not see the benefit in releasing the update as a download for IT professionals. Although six weeks is not long it could be very valuable time to test SP1 in ones business environment.
hey Team ?!
It s Official this??

Mike, great news about SP1. I have been holding off installing Vista but I will definitely give it another go now that SP1 is available.

This is great news. I've heard experts say that its not good to switch to a new Microsoft operating system until at least the first service pack. Is that true?
Ditto what daedalus said!
Dear M$ sirs,
it's absolutely unfair to all paying customers (including me and about 10 my customers who are paying and switching to Vista), that the NEEDED and LONG AWAITED product as Vista SP1 is done a you won't release it for download. As IT PRO, I can manage to solve my eventual problems myself. I don't want to wait, until big asses from big companies will test their drivers. Uninstall/install few drivers...is that a problem??? NO!
According to comment by Paul Thurrott on his supersite blog the release date to the web is 18th Feb
http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2008/02/06/windows-vista-service-pack-1-rtm-screenshots.aspx#comments
I can,t believe its just driver issues.Theirs more to this story than that. they are trying to hide something or maybe I am just paranoid. Anyway it stinks they should treat their testers better than this maybe everybody should avoid being testers next time around then where would they be .
I know there were some issues with at least the RCs and certain anti-virus vendors. Some anti-virus software had to be removed in order to install SP1 RC, so that could also be a reason to wait until those companies have fixed that issue. I still wish it was available on the downloads site now though.
good news for Vista users
I've read that we can't slipstream SP1 into a Vista image. Why going backwards?
I echo the statements made by so many of my peers. When I first read this document I wondered how long it would be before we found this on torrent sites. Today I’m reading reports that it’s out in the wild. Seems like a greater risk to have leaked copies circulating than to release with driver issues. Who knows what small wonders those torrent packages will include?
So now those who are willing to break license agreements get the benefit of looking for security holes for six weeks before we can even get a test unit. Forget 0 day attacks give the bad guys a 6 week lead time.
I’ve paid for my Vista licenses and for MSDN shouldn’t I have the ability to install and test this against my internal applications before my users blindly update? Yes, I can control company machines but not everything lives under my control.
You can’t control the distribution of your product to the enemy the least you could do is empower the pros that support you with a solution to maintain a defense, and test.
From my point paying is becoming a disadvantage and this action has created a potential security weakness.
For all you testers out there thanks! Hope you hit absolutely everything... Guess I'm stuck an have to just wait and see.

Death encounters with Vista SP1 RTM
Maybe six weeks isn't enough time.
@Nick White
perhaps a your sincere participation on because of this delay to RTM sp1, we could calm all customers who a lot we have waited for this day, to sincere being others 2 months are many.
useless to add to all the speculations that the several sites and blog are creating around the situation.
PLS Respond Nick
I was reading an article where Mac users were calling Vista a chrome plated turd and the chrome was starting to peel . I'm starting to wonder if I made a bad move spending all this time And money on vista.
195 posts before a post referencing a Mac or or Linux... I'm surprised it took so long... Macs have their own issues, but they never acknowledge that. I can run Vista Ultimate on a computer I built FOUR years ago because I can upgrade parts of it, unlike most Macs...I think it even has a 3.6 rating...it can even run Crysis pretty well at 1440x900 :) OS X could have even more issues that any version of windows, but there aren't enough users to have stumbled across issues that windows users have.
OK, So it took me exactly 5 mins to find a leaked copy of SP1 by following a link from one of the above. (It's near the top, sorry, can't remember which one, and I've lost the link.)
So why do Microsoft do these stupid things? Surely they could release SP1 on MSDN if nowhere else, with a stark warning that it's not complete or something.. To RTM and nothing else, to not release it to the MSDN subscribers etc. after they put an RC on general release is nuts. MSDN is for Developers and Tech Heads like me, surely they realised it would get leaked, so why not release it officially to people who at least pretend that they know what they're doing...
Aaaarrrgghhh.. I want to scream at someone, stop treating us like infants Microsoft.. If I break my toy, I'll fix it.. Give me back my toy! ^*&^*%%$^%£%$£%^kers!!!!
I am afraid I am going to have to agree with these other comments. I generally support Microsoft in whatever they do. But this really is wrong. It's wrong. I don't know whatelse to say.
I am so tempted to argue with Microsoft on this idiotic arrangement but I refrained......
For once I read somewhere on the net:
Don't argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.....
We were smart enough to test it for them. But now they are insinuating we are not bright enough to deal with a few driver issues. Also what they are saying its finished but not quite yet.
I don't normally leave comments, but in this case I felt compelled to. I agree that the way Microsoft is handling this is wrong. I am a huge supporter of Microsoft and have been an IT consultant for over 12 years, but I just can't support this. I am using SP1 RC which I got from my MSDN subscription. Am I to assume that SP1 RTM is worse off than the RC version? Come on now. I think I handle a few driver issues. Also, how come Microsoft isn't addressing our concerns with all the comments left here? I guess they don't care?
when coming sp1 finale all languish,, and have big is et ??
(Reply to briguy )they already have the money we shelled out for vista and time we wasted testing it for them and now they only care about big manufacturers & OEMS. A little guy like me who builds a few PC'S here and there does not matter to them even though I pay alot more for my copies of vista than the big manufacturers do.
when coming vista sp1 finale Stand-alone installer all languish,, and have big is et ??
Why didn't you just post, "Here it is -- Vista SP1, it really good, but Na, Na, Na, you cannot have it -- HA HA HA!" ?
Stupid is as stupid does.
Stupidity starts at the top and the top guy is demonstrating his by assuming computer users stupid. Obviously top management is correct about user stupidity -- users are so stupid they're buying a huge number of Macintosh computers because Windows Vista is too painful and buggy to use. I've been tortured by unusably slow file copy for a year -- and a long list of deficiencies, things that worked better in Windows Me (the worse MS OS until Vista).
Our company has lost such confidence in Microsoft's ability to make agile moves, we have launch parallel development efforts on the Mac as the market share is growing. Shareholders should demand a top management change due to their lack of concern for the tide of user movement to other OS's. Ten-fifteen years ago this same lack of concern by Apple employees is what cause their market share loss to Microsoft.
I have been a loyal Microsoft developer for years, but Microsoft is basically telling their developers and users to go find solutions elsewhere. Computers from Apple and SP1 via torrents.
Apple's market share is only growing because people either like their iPod and think they might make a good computer, or they honestly believe the lies in Mac vs PC ads. It isn't that they make better products. Weren't they the ones that pushed back their last OS like 6-12 months so they could release the iPhone..?
Anger is what is driving good Microsoft customers to Apple, not that it's a better OS or that they own an iPod. The fact is Microsoft is making people very angry and this anger will drive them to Apple. Think about the last time you got so angry at a vendor for not hearing your problems... did you find another vendor even if they were not as good or convenient? This stupid move will further fuel customer anger and drive them away.
I do not own any Apple products and I am so angry at Microsoft, I feel like buying a Mac just because I am angry. The fact is Microsoft has far better business solutions, but if I get angry enough I am sure I can figure out how to do business tasks with a Mac.
It would appear the internal passion level at Microsoft is very low... it is coming out in the products.
I loved XP speed and stability.

What problems are they not hearing? I've been working with Vista both x86 and x64 on my dev machine at work, and on my laptop and desktop at home, which I also use for my graduate classes since Beta 2. I can't think of any issue that I have had that has not been fixed. Each of those computers has also been faster and generally more stable with Vista than when I was using XP. Most people might not remember, but there were a LOT of issues with installing SP2 for XP, although that was a few years ago. A lot of the people I have talked to that have been complaining about Vista, haven't even used it or haven't used it that much. There weren't even that many issues with compatability from XP to Vista compared to switching from ME or 98 to XP. I have a whole collection of games that never worked after XP, and some hardware that also didn't.
I might be angry about waiting for SP1, but I am not going to buy an Apple product.
Sorry but this is just another slap in the face by MS. This time its in the face of IT professionals. The ones who share the same goal, wide adoption of Vista.
Somehow MS forgot many of us tested out the preview releases and if they work for our organizations, WHY hold up the whole enchilada?
I'm sorry, but I have always defended MS in a lot of cases but this one takes the cake. No doubt this is a terrible decision.
Now only does this push out a lot of our timetables, and leaves a lot of our machines with the preview releases of SP1 for another six-weeks, when I could be pushing them out NOW.
What is even more sad is this leaves the die-hard to go out to Torrents to grab a free-service release of all things. What is wrong with this picture? Pirates, not customers come first in a nutshell.
Congratulations team on SP1. I know you've all worked hard. But I have to tell you, even with SP1, Vista is an awful hog and it does not perform acceptably to me. I have a recent dual core machine with 3GB of RAM and a SATA drive and it doesn't perform. I will go back to XP.
What I would recommend is this: As of the next service pack (which I hope could be ready in a year) remove ALL the gunk that supports Windows NT4 / Windows 9x code and previous. Bundle a lite virtualization environment that can emulate the earlier codebase. Don't look back and make no apologies for the optimization and degunk work. This is the only thing that will bring Windows firmly into the next generation of operating systems.
I know you all have worked in an corporate environment and that probably no one wants to put his/her butt on the line to make necessary but difficult decisions. But it is necessary. Drop the code-base support for legacy OS's. If you were to ground-up rewrite and optimize just the core portions of the OS to be compliant only with Windows 2003/2008/XP you'd reduce all sorts of capacity requirements and better use the power of today's hardware.
You all need to chill out! Vista SP1 is not done. The Windows team probably still have a megapussi of bugs to iron out. This delay will buy them that much more time.
But they didn't say it wasn't done. They said its done but you can't have it. Which is it?
So happy I switched from PC to Mac 15 years ago
MICROSOFT, PLEASE BE PATENT AND STOP PRODUCING THE MICROSOFT WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM AND THE BLOODY EXPENSIVE MICROSOFT OFFICE SUITE.

thx XP but now RIP +++++
Long Life to Vista and stop
Well, as a network Manager, I can't say the amount of joy I take in ripping out vista from every machine in my network. While it may take a little effort, its well worth the time.
For home use Vista is ok, but for Corp forget it keep XP.
Vista is the new MS bob.
What is the point of me having a Technet or MSDN subscription?
What a terrible decision.
Come on Microsoft. Sort it out!
What is bad about Vista on a network? We have had users here with it for a year now, and some since Beta 2..
Will the SP allow me to connect to an Xserve in about a second like I do with XP or will I have to get used to Vista spinning it's wheels for minutes?
Isn't Vista supposed to be better than XP?

Maybe instead of spending billions to buy Yahoo which I think is insane hire some more people and maybe you might even get your operating systems and service packs out ahead of time . Steve Balmer is an idiot and Bill Gates must have lost his mind ,this guy will destroy Microsoft & wreck it worse than it already is.
Windows Vista...deja vu 'Windows ME'....but worse.

Congratulations and Thanks !!
Will I have to pay extra cost in order to get SP1 update for my current system?
I know someone that installed SP1. The installation went well, but the installation took up ~7 GB of HDD space when all was said and done. How can this be? A clean install of Vista only takes ~10 GB if my memory holds true. Is there any backup files that can be deleted to get back some of this HDD space?
hey??????!!TEAM

were is serch???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I am using Vista because my old PC crashed, and I had to buy a new one. So far, Vista is not as bad as ME. (ME was so frustrating for my wife to use, it almost brought her to tears more than once.)
I've done some registry hacks on my PC, and it's OK right now... not great... not the comfy feeling I had with XP, just OK.
If SP1 improves Vista like the one did for XP, then I will go for it. If it makes things more cumbersome, I will do without it.
Come on guys, give us the early release we all want.
Dear Mr Nash or everyone else at Microsoft Corp., I never wrote something on an official microsoft site before, but THAT was the straw that broke the camel's back! I know the chance that either you or someone else from MS will read this is very low but I have to vent my anger about your patch politics.
First of all, why do you make an announcement that the SP1 is finished if you don’t release it to everyone who wants to use it? What kind of napless excuse is this “there are some driver issues, we can’t release it to everyone now“? There are not only dumb incompetent windows users! There are hundreds and thousands IT experts (including me) who know what they do when they install a service pack where MAYBE a driver problem can occur in some cases! What you do is a big “HAHA“ straight into my face (and in the face of all others)!.
If you don’t want the afflictions of the normal users if they get trouble due to a possible driver issue, why don’t you release the finished!!! SP1 on a “experts or beta portal“ with a notice that there is no guarantee at the moment that everything works fine due to potential driver issues? If you do so, everyone who knows what he does can get it and install it at own risk.
I think you know that there are hundreds of sites with leaked versions of the SP1. Is that in your companys concern? I bet at least the half of those leaked versions have integrated a malware “special feature“. Now you’ll say it’s the own fault of everyone who downloads and installs that BUT in the end it is bad publicity for you because they will say damn Windows, damn Micro$oft. And if there are integrated trojans in a leaked version, the bot-network operators will be very happy but not you. That means more spam and other illegal activities just for free.
The same thing is your “Patch Tuesday“ every month. Why don’t you release important patches to everyone just when they are finished? What your company does is like if the brakes of my car are broken and the mechanic at my garge tells me “Oh, there is no reason to hurry. We can do this at the inspection next month“!!!
But to make a long story short, I’ll never pay just a stinky nickel for a microsoft product in future if you dont’t change your politics to the end-users advantage and I know a lot of people who think like me! As a owner of several legal buyed!!! Microsoft products I’m totally pi**ed off. I feel messed arround by your company and all software pirates who don’t pay just a cent for the software but get service packs earlyer than legal customers. I know that you are laughing right in the moment you read this because your company is the monopolist and you don’t care about what the user thinks but remember my words… that politics will not work forever!
p.s. This is not meant as a troll post or something else! My advice for you: please don’t make announcements in future about finished products you won’t release. That just makes people angry.
By the way, sorry for my bad english, its not my native language.
Best regards

Thank god that you are among the first!!!
Germany, Italy.... that doesn't matter... The 36 language version is leaked and in the net too as far as I know so it's finished.
They should release it for ALL NOW!

Microsoft need to buck up their ideas. Who is this Mike Nash?? telling the users RTM is offically done but not yet released it to users! Why did Microsoft do this? Pathetic!
You eitha tell the customers its done and release it or you don't tell your customers its done, and you don't release it!
IT IS AS SIMPLE AS THAT!
@ dovella:
To be honest... I don't trust in the RegHack method. Who ensures me that MS already updated ALL SP1 files in windows update to RTM? No, I want the standalone installer and I want it from Microsoft and not from a russian download site or torrent or something like that!
@Agent Provocateur
You are right,
I have 2 PC with Vista
The first works very well and I could not use SP1 .
The second has a few more years, I have installed sp1 RC 2,
I am sure the boys team are working to make a minor issue at a time, and perhaps serve other prerequisites for those who need it.
http://blogs.technet.com/keithcombs/archive/2008/02/08/i-got-your-back-windows-vista-sp1-coming-sooner-than-you-think.aspx
... so, maybe someone is listening. Yes?
It has been reported that the SP1 RC refresh 2 is identical to the RTM and that the registry change to enable download of the SP1 RCR2 works and downloads the RTM SP1. Can someone verify this?
Oh Mashall, how could anyone possibly verify this, except for Microsoft, and they have announced their current planning for releasing the SP1.
It is a waste of time and a waste of energy to discuss possible illegal and/or clever sources for the service pack - instead we should all join voices and forces so that we push the team to the right direction.
They will listen. We are customers.
@ protocol:
I fear they will not... It's like I wrote, they will just lough in our faces knowing we don't have a big choice at the moment. Mr Nash or even don't try to calm the waves. What MS does with the SP1 is a big evidence of incapacity... Sry MS
@ Agent Provocateur
247 comments are an absolute minimum. I wouldn't take it seriously myself if i were Microsoft. We should all work in order to make this a much bigger number.
Having said that, the word is that this page HAS caused a stir and that we will soon see results.
I think they even don't care about our afflictions if it would be 10.000 comments... It's such a shame that most of the software is for windows and not compatible to linux... I'm very sure they would hurry if there would be more competition. It's a waste of time to write to microsoft. Ok, I vent my anger and that makes me feel a very little better but that doesn't solve the problem. The only thing we could do is not to buy a microsoft product whenever there is an alternative...
you are exaggerating.
we have not never had a Microsoft better than that which is today
great news, I also published some SP1 features on my website here:
http://www.softwaretipspalace.com/windows/vista/news/windows-vista-sp3-refresh.php
http://www.softwaretipspalace.com/MS_Windows_Vista/windows_vista_service_pack_1_info.php
they should release service pack 1 to the download center before the end of the month in my opinion
A service pack for VISTA ? Microsoft should be ashamed that it released VISTA. I've wasted too many hours in frustration with VISTA to care. What about the new printer, web cam and digital camera that I had to buy because my "old" ones were incompatible. Bye.. Bye.. Microsoft. Hello I-MAC.
This is *incredibly* frustrating I have to say. In a moment where alternatives to Vista are growing, MS does something like this.
I understand if internally MS is looking at this is a Vista 2.0 sort of deal, but this is an unusual release schedule, IMO. It does, as someone pointed out earlier, leave the IT community out in the cold.
Hey Mjhieu: there is no additional cost involved in acquiring, installing or using SP1.
Hey mfisher1967: it sounds to me like something went awry in that case, as installing SP1 should not take that much disc space (usually >1GB). I'd suggest seeking a resolution here: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1992&SiteID=17.
Hey everyone: let me once more thank you for your comments -- I've made sure Mike himself has seen every one. I can safely say that you're being heard and your collective position is understood. If anything changes, you'll learn of it here.
Maybe... but the motto of such a big company should be "we can do this even better!" every second, every minute, every time!
@ Nick White:
Thank you. I hope you understand our point of view and don't see this as "Microsoft bashing".
Microsoft made a bad move delaying Windows Vista SP1. We were waiting for this release and now this :( what a joke Microsoft
http://staff.neowin.net/skyypunk/VistaSP1WU.zip
Try at your own risk to activate SP1 from Windows Update (downloads from Microsoft's own servers) to download the RTM version of the pack from Windows Update Run this Reg Hack... I am installing it now, check out this screen shot first if you don't believe me...

After being let down by SP1 , I was stupid enough to buy vista ultimate where are my ultimate extras Microsoft if this is all I get for what I paid then you let me down again. If you do this with the next OS you will surely lose more customers . I can't believe you think people will take crap like this forever. I have always been a windows supporter but I am not sure you will have me for customer when you release your next OS.
I run a small business catering to Active Adult communities. My number 1 question is "Should I install Vista or purchase a new one with it?"
Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question affirmatively. By delaying my ability to test out this l;atest release my busines has been hurt and I am embarrased. I found that my Technet Plus Subscription has let me down. I spent the moeny in order to be able to test what my client base wants before I sell it. I now do not get the #1 hyped upgrade until AFTER my clients can get it rather than before.
It seems that Microsoft has FOSTERED piracy rather then nipped it with this boneheaded decision.
Mr. Nash,
Is there a reason why you deleted my post? There are much more vitriolic posts target toward you on this blog. Was mine that penetrating that you couldn't bear the shame? Wow, I'm honored!
This has to be a mess that should never have happened. You have just confirmed that SP1 is not ready for release.
Here's an entry for your FAQ:
Q: when will SP1 be released
A: when it's ready or when marketing decide.
There's only one reason you decided to RTM this, but fankly it's not a good one. SP1 is vital, in our market at least, to create some faith that Vista is ready. Now you are suggesting we need and SP1 for SP1 - what were you guys thinking.
How about you do the decent thing, and pull SP1 until it really is ready for prime time. And meanwhile, do some decent testing.
There's incredible irony in reading the quote above from Mike Nash: "Since these issues have a direct impact on our customers' experiences, we've invested time and energy to make this better." Excuse me, but making paying MSDN customers wait for SP1, against all their loud objections, is the exact opposite of "make this better". It's obvious Microsoft simply DOES NOT CARE about even one of their more elite groups of customers (MSDN subscribers).
Such behavior just creates bad feelings, bad press, thousands of angry blog entries, and turns even more people AGAINST Microsoft. At first it seems amazing people like Mike Nash can just ignore the literally thousands of negative comments all over the web when so much could be easily done to improve the situation. But then, when you think about it, Microsoft even tends to ignore giant lawsuits--like the one now in play over "Vista Capable" PCs.
It really seems hopeless. Microsoft is just getting worse instead of better. It's not surprising Google, Apple, Linux, Open Source, and many other alternatives, are steadily stealing their market share. That trend is only going to continue as long as Microsoft keeps ignoring the ever rising tide of criticism directed their way.
Hi Sagi!
But i cannot find it on MSDN Subscribers yet :(
Any ideas?
Brgds,
Sergej
Ok!
Here is the link for MSDN subscribers:

So does SP1 finally bring Firewire (1394) networking to Vista as previousy promised? That would be cool, especially if it supports the newer versions of Firewire. It would also bring Vista up-to-date with WindowsXP, which would be nice...
I think when MS actually has drivers for its own hardware (I'm talking MS Fingerprint Reader for Vista x64) it will be a sign that tide has turned and there might be enough drivers for the OS to recommend it to others.
But if MS can't even have drivers for its own hardware in time for SP1, what does that say???
Certainly an excuse for other hardware makers to delay a few more years...
Some of the Vista RTM bugs that breaked compatibilty with TSAdmin (Terminal Services manager) were fixed even though release notes mention nothing about it.
The fix for KB941561 was NOT included though but the hotfix for KB941561 cannot be installed on SP1 !!

Guys, what's the deal with recdisc.exe and SP1. The shortcut to create a recovery disc used to be in the start menu but is no more after SP1, despite the fact that recdisc.exe is still in the Windows registry.
Technet has some posts about it but no explanations have been forthcoming and I can't find anything about it on the web either.

It is now March 12. Can Microsoft care a little about its Customers and give us an actual date when we can get on the MS Download Center and install SP1? Some of us have lives and need to do some planning and set aside time to update our machines.
I'll second that. They said mid-March was the time for us common mortals. Is that the 15th exactly at midnight, or do these Gods from Redmond Olympus give as a gift of a couple of days?
Oh, yeah it seems that for some reason this has to be announced with a certain frequency on this blog, so here goes, for all ye who didn't know: Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista has been released to manufacturing. Amen!
Mid-March is whatever MS wants it to be ... 15 March or 15 May. They control all the marbles and they look at us as peons. Monopolies, or near monopolies, act like "gods." The only kind of bitching they care about comes from the US Justice Department when there is talk of prosecuting for acts of unfair competition of illegal monopolistic behaivior in the marketplace. The time is ticking for Redmond's friends in the White House. If McCain doesn't get in; either one of the democrats will re-open the books on MS. Perhaps a nice protracted prosecution will install a modicum of humility and maybe (its a stretch) that will create a bit of concern for its customers.
XP SP3 is now available from the MS Download Center. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=114f3599-12af-42b2-aab1-b969a62c68a7&displaylang=en
Why can MS release Vista SP1? I thought Vista was THE premier MS OS? I wish Fujitsu had given me an option to buy my new notebook with XP.
Well Microsoft here it is two days from mid march and no mention about service pack 1 . So far I have not been wowed by Vista and in the news they are talking about Windows 7 will be ready in 2010. How about fixing Vista first. If you piss everyone off to the point they don;t care anymore maybe they won't be in a hurry to buy your next operating system I know I won't. You are all ready counting your money for your next operating system And you have not finished Vista yet and oh yeah where are the ultimate extras I payed all that extra money for. I can,t say its been a pleasure doing business with you Microsoft
In the microsoft.public.windowsupdate news group, "PA Bear [MS MVP]" today March 15th at 15:31 in the "Vista SP1" thread writes that "[Vista] SP1 will be offered to the machine via Windows Update sometime in the coming weeks/months". I suspect that this will appear to be the real situation. Has MS really not made any official and exact announcement recently about this matter ?
It is March 15. Mid March I'd day. I just checked the MS download center. No Vista SP1 download. Good grief. If SP1 solves so many problems and is that much quicker, for heaven's sake release it. If there are problem drivers, so be it -- there have always been problem drivers. This drip, drip, drip .... hurry up and wait approach must be part of a larger MS marketing scheme. MICROSOFT!!!!! HOW ABOUT CARING ABOUT THE USER! RELEASE SP1 NOW!!!!!
Check computerworld.com they have an article that says Vista Service Pack 1 should be available to download March 18.
I have an inexpensive Toshiba notebook with Vista Home Premium. MS Update does not offer me SP1. For a while now, it has been offering me updates for the Intel video adapter and the Atheros network adapter. So, I said OK and the install ended in a blue screen. The system seems to have restarted OK.
I still have warranty. So, I called Toshiba. I was told these adapters are made special for Toshiba, I already have the latest drivers, and the ones MS update wants to give me are inappropriate. Ouch!
I was also advised that, if I want to get SP1, I should go for the manual download. Hmmm.
I think I'll watch and wait for awhile
SP1 is now available from Microsoft to anyone who wants to download it -- at >>>

Hi Mike, greetings from The Netherlands.
I have a 3 months old Toshiba laptop P205D- S7802. I received the priority install update thru Windows update of Vista SP1. During installation the screen went black and the pc is dead!. And i mean dead. He does'nt do anything anymore. When i want to start my laptop the blue light comes on for just a few seconds and then a weird sound and he's out again. I can not use my laptop anymore.
What is going on!
Please help.
Greetings from Europe, the Netherlands.
Michael.
Hello again from The Netherlands,
The malfunction above was NOT Vista. After investigation we found out that there was a glitch at the powercompany and as a result two Toshiba ac adaptors went down en was working on batterypower. My non presence during istall did't help either otherwise i could have seen that he was shutting down. Because there were 4 ac adaptors in the outlet and the others still worked i assumed that the malfunction was Vista related (especially because it happened during a update). This was not the case. After replacement of the adaptors Vista is running like a charm. I felt the need to say this because it is not my intention to harm a good product. (seen Dumb & Dumber?....Sorry)
Mike The Netherlands
I am very excited about SP1... hopefully it will overcome many problems that were in earlier version...
Since buying our new Dell XPS M1530 with Vista, we have been hamstrung by quirks in your software that go beyond annoying. Our Corporate VPN line no longer connects with required server software. Our HP Officejet 5510 printer no longer functions correctly. A call to Dell customer service says HP must upgrade their drivers to Vista or get just buy another printer. Our Corporate software company was unaware of the problems Vista is causing since no one has upgraded yet. We sent an alert to all corporate users to delay buying Vista products until you straighten this out.Lets get this straightened out before everyone moves to MAC.

Well my machine was upgraded to this wonderful new SP1 overnight. This morning my computer came up, it has now successfully changed the setup of my computer.
My user id password has remained the same on my computer but when I log in, my id is no longer associated with all of my documents, desk top and email. The files are still on the disk and are still under the correct id name just not accessable from that id.
Now I have to work out how to get around this. I have an important project to train people for next week and now have to go and find out how i can get to all the information that i need.
Thanks Microsoft you have done it again!!!!!!!!!!!
Oops just realized it was not a service pack 1 but a microsoft upgrade that stuffed up my computer.
