In March of this year we released our first Internet Explorer Platform Preview as a way to give web developers and designers a look at our faster, more interoperable, fully hardware accelerated rendering engine for Internet Explorer 9. With each release of the Platform Preview, culminating in the 4th this August, we’ve been releasing demos to our Internet Explorer Test Drive site to showcase the type of web experiences developers and designers will be able to build on top of Internet Explorer 9.
Later today Internet Explorer 9 reaches the next important milestone – Beta. You can watch the live webcast of today’s keynote beginning at 10:30 am PDT: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/presskits/internetexplorer/Default.aspx
And we’ll be back with much more on Exploring IE throughout the day, stay tuned!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh myyy goddddddd
DOWNLOAD. LINK. NOW.
can't wait! gonna switch from Chrome to IE9! :D
I am assuming that the download page will be a direct redirect from the Platform Preview page. They actually want us to watch the webcast first so the slick advertisers and hype-makers earn their money for the day.
I can't wait to try IE9 Beta, but I have to say that I can't see how it can be any better than the fully functional Firefox 4 Beta 6. .... I don't mind being proven wrong though. :-))
there's some adblocker that comes with IE9 ?
Quote 41L3F: "there's some adblocker that comes with IE9 ?"
Usually, no plug-ins are allowed in a Beta 1 product, but there is a "Simple Ad Blocker" plug-in which is made for IE8.

BING!
thanks, I didn't know this one, i'm going to try it now.
@Elliot I'd recommend watching the keynote and checking back in at www.beautyoftheweb.com later in the day.
@James ---- Okay, thanks James! :-)
Cant Wait for IE 9..!!!! MS is and will be truly back!!!!!!!!
I hate when you don't use GMT time zone ¬¬
I can remember that I'm at GMT -3 but I cannot remember all the others! (PDT, AST, EST, etc.) I always have to search for a Time Zone Converter... very annoying.
BTW, it's UTC (GMT) 17:30.
there is a button to download the beta

recent beta of firefox 4.0 seems not so satisfatory...hope MS will give us the real INTERNET EXPLORER this time!
The previews were impressive. We hope IE9 can improve our web experiences like ie8 and more.
Please convert to EST. Thanks.
we are really enjoying browsers war

WOW!!! IE9 IS SLEEK AND LIGHTNING FAST! I downloaded and installed directly from "Beauty Of The Web."
FYI: IE 8 is uninstalled during the installation of IE9. :-)
I can not post from chrome. I only can write post from IE. Is that a problem with Chrome or did IE block it?
Even the "keynote" was good. I missed the first 10 minutes while installing and experimenting. I've set IE 9 as my default browser since it seems to be working properly. :-)
Tried going to my webmail site GMX.com and it just sits there trying to load the email interface, even with compatibility view activated.Worked OK with IE8 with compatibility view activated.
@efjay: Remember: This is Beta 1 release. Expect problems, including but not limited to browser crashes, system crashes, websites displaying strangely, and websites not displaying at all. Be sure to report any and all issues to Microsoft.
Silverlight (Netflix) not working in IE 9 beta :(
I've a little feedback to design: why is there favicon 2x? I would recommend just one on page tab and in address bar could be simple icon by protocol type / to differentiate search function from address, think about that, thank you :)
I was using IE8 and Firefox4 beta (for the HTML5 stuff).
No I can get rid of Firefox and continue to use only IE :)
I was waiting for this realease so eaggerly ;)
@ Bryce Katz: is there anywhere to report issues? There doesnt seem to be an obvious way to report issues, I tried leaving feedback via IE9 itself and it did not work.
IE 9 Beta is now my default. Goodbye chrome :D
From now on it's only one browser needed. IE Babay!
@efjay Did you try sending feedback through the "Send Feedback" tool in IE9? (Tools Menu (gear icon) then Send Feedback) What happened?
Oh my god! IE9 didn't reach 100/1'00 in the acid test? LOL
@maxlevel
It's worth you reading up a little more on the ACID3 test. We covered our score in the post about Platform Preview 4 : blogs.msdn.com/.../html5-modernized-fourth-ie9-platform-preview-available-for-developers.aspx
For your convenience, here's what Dean had to say :
Some people use a particular test or website as shorthand for standards compliance. Different sites test different subsets of different standards to different depths. Acid3 is one that some people in the community have cited. It tests about 100 fragments of a dozen different technologies. Here’s a screenshot of how today’s IE9 Platform Preview runs today’s Acid3 test, going from 83 in the previous platform preview to 95:
As IE9 has implemented more of the standards that developers use and value, IE9’s Acid3 score has continued to rise. The remaining points involve two particular technologies (SVG Fonts and SMIL animation of SVG) that are in transition.
Support for SVG Fonts in the web development and font communities has been declining for some time. There’s already been discussion without objection of dropping SVG fonts from the Acid3 test. The community has put forth a proposal in the SVG Working Group to give SVG Fonts optional status.
Instead, developers can use the Web Open Font Format (WOFF, supported in IE9 Platform Preview 3 as well as other browsers) for both HTML and SVG content. It works well in conjunction with the CSS3 Fonts module and has broad support from leading font vendors (e.g. here, “a majority of font makers have already settled on WOFF or services like Typekit as their format of choice”). WOFF fonts are a better long-term solution for many reasons discussed previously.
Similarly, support for SMIL animation of SVG in the web development community is far from strong. The leader of the SVG standardization effort wrote that not supporting SMIL in its current state is probably best “since the SVG WG intends to coordinate with the CSS WG to make some changes to animation and to extend filters.” There’s already work started to reconcile CSS3 animations and SVG. Developers interested in animating SVG can use JavaScript, as the samples in the test drive site do today, with consistent results.
well i tried IE 9 beta out today .. and just to let you know the feed back on it I had and issue with google docs.. I was able to log into google docs but was not able to access my documents .. so far that is the only flaw i have found with IE 9 Beta
@brytarp
Can you send feedback through the "Send Feedback" tool in IE9? (Tools Menu (gear icon) then Send Feedback) . It'll ensure the issue you're seeing gets appropriate attention.
Thanks
