Will WINDOWS VISTA be at par with WINDOWS XP being the best OS so far for NETWORK GAMING?

I really thought that server manager was supposed to be the one-stop management interface for my 2008 server. It’s unfortunate that this concept has been abandoned.

Windows Search is simply installed and enabled even though I had previously not selected index service in server manager. Even better, the fact that Windows Search is enabled doesn’t show in server manager after the service pack.

I predict a lot of complaints over this. Thousands of administrators are going to install the service pack and expect their server to perform as it was before the service pack. But, they will find that their server is perceptibly slower, and if they have multi-terabyte volumes, they’ll be mystified by the slow but steady loss of drive space on the system drive (as the index consumes all available space).

This was easily avoidable. Every server feature should be visible in server manager. And, a service pack shouldn’t change the configuration state of the server. If indexing was off before, it should remain off.

This type of behavior may be acceptable for a desktop OS, where a reasonable argument could be made that the vendor knows the best configuration for most people. On a server OS, I should always have complete (and fine-grained) control. Server 2008 started out this way. But, it is slowly being moved back to the old Microsoft way of doing things.

This is the kind of thing that causes disproportionate community response, and makes people think they need to use Linux (where they can feel like they are in complete control).

Can anyone help me? The technical support at Atlas Business Solutions have no idea how to resolve it.
