Now, I've installed the RSAT, with the new versions of the DHCP and GPMC tools, and they work great (About time! Yea!), but now all of a sudden the ADU&C snap in fails to load. I get an error message titled: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, that says: This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Can anyone tell me what's going on with this? I didn't think the RSAT made a change to the ADU&C snap in? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I use these tools daily. I'd rather not step back to XP, and I don't like having to remote in to one of the servers every time I need to make a change.

Thanks!

The DNS console in 64bit RSAT appears to have the wrong sort set up on the IP address column. In 32bit (and in the old adminpak), sorting on IP address yielded eg. this:

10.0.0.1

10.0.0.2

10.0.0.3

10.0.0.10

10.0.0.11

10.0.0.20

etc.

Now, on RSAT 64bit, you get this:

10.0.0.1

10.0.0.10

10.0.0.11

10.0.0.2

10.0.0.20

10.0.0.3

Obviously this isn't the desired sort - how should I bug this?

I look forward to the day where i run nothing but Server 2008 and Vista, then i might be able to jsut use 1 PC. But until then i can't use it.

Does Microsoft realize that a number of features in the XP adminpak were dropped for RSAT? That makes RSAT less-capable than what was previously available 4 years ago. In addition, as other comments noted, Communication Server won't work. I'm not sure about Exchange, but SMS and ISA 2006 management tools also fail when loaded on Vista.

Rather than RSAT, what we need is someone at Microsoft to clean up all these individual tools and interfaces and give us a tool that actualyl works with Microsoft's current product line-up on Vista. Currently, Vista still breaks Microsoft management tools left and right.

That's exactly what I'm referring to. A number of the toolsets won't run on Vista 64-bit at all or still throw errors even under Vista 32-bit. The same toolsets appear to work great under XP (or even Windows 2008 apparently). It's great that RSAT is out there, but it doesn't appear Microsoft has done enough to allow a typical helpdesk running Microsoft products to switch to Vista yet, unless we remote desktop into each server. That method would defeat the entire purpose of the RSAT toolset.

OCS won't work as jrmac stated above. Exchange import-mailbox won't work and generates errors as I previously noted. An ISA expert on our staff just pointed out to me that Vista won't work for him to mange his servers either, so he either runs XP or just remote desktops in. Etc.

Nick, do we have any indications of which management toolsets work 100% correctly with Vista 32 and 64-bit versions?
