It was the worst electronics decision we have ever made. Our new Sony VGC-LT29U would not receive digital cable. Our local cable company rewired our house, twice, tried at least 3 cable cards. I called Sony for 2 months, asking them to please fix my new expensive computer. Every time I switched from a digital to an analog channel, or the opposite, my picture would freeze, and then show me the error message "tuner not found." Sony blamed it on software incompatibility, and after 2 months I sent the whole mess back to Sony. They are now, of coarse, refusing to refund our money. I tried asking microsoft for help, but they say if Windows was installed by the manufacturer, that company has agreed to do the customer support.

the above is about a new Sony VGC-LT29U running Vista Ultimate a pair of ATI TV Wonder digital cable tuners model A636 "certified for Windows Vista"

networked with a Netgear WNR 3500 router compatible according to the Microsoft website

the cable modem from Time Warner is by Arris

The user interface is very pretty and I've found it to be quite reliable.

However, the guide is the biggest mistake Microsoft could have made. Specially when you live between two transmitters where you get some channels from one and some from another, setting it up is a killer. Also the guide is not always accurate and sometimes not available. Why didn't Microsoft support an EPG over the air waves ? Big mistake.

Also why can't I use Media Center in my office to watch TV from my Media Center TV in the living room ? Thinking of ditching Media Center as there are plenty of alternatives that may not look so pretty but offer much better functionality.

When I try to setup the Media Center it tells me it can't find the Hauppauge 1800 tuner card which is certified for Vista Media Center. I have spent hours on this and it seems the problem is not with card, since Vista displays the card in device manager as working and Beyond TV software uses the card to display tv and to record. It seems other individuals are having the same problem regardless of the tuner card. will Microsoft ever fix the Media software?

I'm pleased with the quality of one hour TV shows, and up until now, I had not really tried recording movies lasting more than one hour.

Whenever I record a movie, Media Center breaks the movie into either two or three files. I would really prefer just one file per movie.

Is there a setting I should change somewhere? I haven't been able to find one. Otherwise, why would MC split the movies?

What is the difference in using a tv tuner versus a capture card besides that the capture card is less expensive. It seems to me that since my TV is always on channel 3 that I can't really tune into any other channels or can it change the channels through the Directv box?
