We Vista users need a good fix for the incompatibility of Flash Player and Vista. I have read so many sites of quick fixes THAT DON'T WORK.

I am getting frustrated and am already sorry I bought a new computer with Vista installed. YOu are driving us right into the arms of Mac. Is that what you really want???????????

Also a few programs are coming up as unregistered every time I use them, I'll put in the reg code; the program accepts it and it comes up as a registered product but the next time I use it; it comes up again as unregistered. Presumably these faults are related in some way. Not holding out much hope of any assistance here; as Greg54 rightly says, there's not many answers on here!

Running new system with Vista 32 bit home premium. This is a replacement system, speakers and the tower totally replaced by Dell because they thought as did I , that my operating system was bad, but it turned out when I got the 2nd system when it did the same bizarre stuff, I figured out it was the refresher, within the first 21 days so they replaced it all. The speakers also replaced still make that cracklin noise even when not playing music. actually never jeard it while playing music. Have the Dell XPS 720

Fun fun fun. Finally figured out that is what was doing it. Please send to whoever is working on service pack 1 or the appropriate dept. Thanks.

There's a "dark" facility in Vista that automatically applies compat settings for wobbly apps. This can be a problem when these settings are applied inappropriately, e.g. to RegEdit after some race condition etc. triggers a spurious "compat" issue and response.

We do need a "window" to manually manage these settings, or at least reset them on a per-app basis. As it is, I now have a PC out there with a possibly bent Regedit, and no insight as to what the impact might be.

The problem isn't always unavailability of new compat versions of these apps; often the cost of these is prohibitive. In some cases, apps have been carried forward from Win9x to XP PCs over the years. Virtual PC is hindered by licensing issues for Vista Home, and lack of physical legacy ports on modern PCs for dongles etc.

Executive summary: App compat is a killer.
