I also have a computer with XP. I can use my ipod as a hard drive on XP. But when I use it with Vista it tells me it needs to be formatted to PC (it is). And I can not see the Ipod. Any suggestions?

I was having the same issues with my 2nd gen nano and 64 bit Vista. I did a couple of things in a row so I’m not sure if only one of these things -- or if both worked together:

1. When the prompt asks me if I want the device scanned, I said yes. (however, it told me that the disc was not accessible. I didn’t do anything further from there.)

2.Next, I reset my factory settings on my ipod through iTunes.

For whatever reason, doing both of these things worked for me, even if it didn't seem to work for other people!

Also, I was annoyed by the AutoPlay feature popping up whenever I plugged in my ipod, but fixing that is easy: open the control panel and choose Auto Play. Uncheck the box that says “use autoplay for all media devices” and hit “save”. Now the only thing that automatically opens when I dock the ipod is iTunes.

Hope this helps!

The Intel Matrix download works a treat!!! I have no idea why this has not ever been posted on Apple site or Vista Microsoft official site or even the dell site. Looks like issue was in the end to do with Intel and the Raid controller. Photo sync works fine with jpg files now. But what an effort and many days spent doing reformats etc.. beacuse of corrupt Raid array.

There is a known issue with itunes and the photos sync. Download latest version of Intel Matrix Storage Manager and all should be fine. Not tried this out yet but will do tongight. It has taken me weeks and weeks to find this solution. From the support site I visited comments tend to indicate that it works fine.

I have read that vista can only sync photos to ipod when they are BMP or TIFF, vista will not sync jpeg photos, which is usually the format photos are saved on computer. I had to change all my photoes to bmp by editing them in paint then saving as bmp, its a pain, but the only way I could do it. Hope they sort it out soon, Good luck.
