Ctrl-space (which up until Windows XP has always worked fine for me) no longer functions for any of its former purposes, as it's been hijacked by the language bar.

Ctrl-space now calls up the language bar and changes the input language to Chinese (Taiwan). I do not speak, understand, use, or need this language. I have removed it from the list of installed languages in the "Text Services and Input Languages" dialog. I have disabled the language switching hotkeys under Advanced Key Settings. It doesn't matter. Windows Vista knows that I really really did want to switch to Chinese, and helpfully keeps the Ctrl-space combo bound to "switch to Chinese" no matter what I, in my innocence, try to tell it.

Even better, there is no checkbox to disable advanced text services, like there was in XP. Using the MS knowledge base, I learned that you can do it by using regsvr32.exe to unregister msimtf.dll and msctf.dll, except that even running this as admin helpfully errors out with "permission denied" (0x80004005).

Mircosoft's own web tutorial doesn't indicate aname this new mystery bar or a way to shut it off.

I made a cool screenshot with a cool little post note, but I have nowhere to send it.

At times when I am typing an email, something in Vista will switch on and every time I type a vowel it opens some applett. Last night I was typing in a text chat to my instructor and got Dav typed in then My Computer Opened. I then pressed the U key and Ease of Access Center opened. I know I didn't press the Windows Key on accident when this problem occured and I couldn't shut it off, I had to reboot my entire system so I could type again. Does anyone know of another fix for Vista, besides a baseball bat. I have been using Vista for about 2 months and am ready to give up on it and revert all my machines to XP until Micrsoft comes out with a better OS. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

If you have 10 items in your quicklaunh, you could invoke each one by winkey+[0-9]. For example, if IE is in the 3rd quicklaunch icon, I could open IE by winkey+3 :)

Its 10 becoz we have numbers from 0-9 , lol
