The absolute best place for vista drivers is http://www.radarsync.com/vista. Better than microsoft's pages. Unfortunately, the vista upgrade has been rocky for lots of us in terms of drivers. After searching around a lot I found this site, and it's helped me a lot. Of course it won't help in the case of vendors who aren't releasing vista drivers, but sometimes the xp drivers will work as well.

The primary disappointment is in the fact that out of the 10 or 12 times I've run the program, it's only finished scanning the 2000+ machines it found once. The rest of the time it just sits there spinning with one or two machines left to check in the inventory collection. I did get one to complete far enough to get a workbook generated but that's it.

I'm using the Active Directory discovery and two accounts to try on each machine. One is a domain account and the other is a local account. Both should be members of the local administrators group on the workstations.

Which brings up a serious annoyance with the tool, and that's the inability to restrict the discovery to OUs. Servers won't be "upgraded" to Vista and so there's no need to scan them, is there?

Anyway, are there known issues related to the scans that cause them to hang? I usually give up and cancel the scan after three or four days since there is something clearly wrong. It's a great tool conceptually and I'd sure like to get it working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Chad Harris suggested that I try and make you guys aware of what _appears_ to be an issue with Vista's anti-piracy features that I am experiencing.

My post:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup&mid=2146e384-1a30-4692-9ec8-e4389da821f9

Someone else that seems to be experiencing the same issue:

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup/browse_thread/thread/ccd392d5412cb1b3/f24bc805669d7932?lnk=st&q=vista+license+service+control+panel&rnum=1&hl=en#f24bc805669d7932

The executive summary of the thread is that my non-activated install of Vista Business that is only a few days into the 30 day evaluation period is showing symptoms of running in reduced functionality mode without any warning or dialog informing me as such. Stopping and restarting the Software License service restores normal functioning until the next reboot.

I wonder if you could help me please. I'm a recent convert to Windows Vista and although I like its presentation, the fact that i have to search continuously for non-microsft software drivers for it is most annoying. The latest one to fail is my E61 Nokia PDA which doies not have a driver for Windows Vista and Nokia advise me they don't intend to have one for any of their phones for windows vista in the near future. This seems most curious for the biggest mobile phone company in the world. You would have though that a least a few of your 30k odd people who were supposed to be your beta test base would have also been Nokia users. By the way it also affects my bluetooth connection for my pc as this doesn't have one for vista either.

Do you have any suggestions as to how i might overcome this?
