Video Demo: Identifying Security Vulnerabilities for Your Desktop Infrastructure

Whether you are planning to deploy Windows Vista or already did, it is important that you keep security high on your list and make sure that all of your desktops are secured. So, how do you know if your desktops have Windows Firewall settings turned off? What if some desktops do not have Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware software installed?

Microsoft demonstrates Multi-touch

For years Microsoft has been investing in many forms of natural input in order to simplify the way people interact with their PC's and devices. The advent of the original Windows graphical user interface forever changed the way people used their PC's. Today, advances in pen and handwriting technology in Windows Vista offers students a natural and intuitive way to capture searchable notes and diagrams in the classroom. Others are using this technology to quietly capture pen based notes during meetings. Speech recognition, something which was once considered science fiction, is enabling many Windows Vista users to see, hear, and use their computers for the very first time.

Last year, at the Wall Street Journal's D: All Things Digital conference, Bill Gates introduced a groundbreaking new computing experience called Surface. Surface harnesses touch and multi-touch capabilities to provide users with a natural way to interact directly with computing devices. Expect to see the table-like Surface devices in hotels, retail establishments, restaurants and public entertainment venues.

Touch is quickly becoming a common way of directly interacting with software and devices. Touch-enabled surfaces are popping up everywhere including laptop touch pads, cell phones, remote controls, GPS devices, and more. What becomes even more compelling is when this experience is delivered to the PC -on a wide variety of Windows notebooks, in all-in-one PC's, as well as in external monitors. In working with our broad ecosystem of hardware and software manufactures, we're excited to be showing some of the great work and investments we are working on in Windows 7.

Tonight, at this year's D:All Things Digital conference, Julie Larson-Green showed Walt Mossberg how a few of the multi-touch innovations first previewed in Surface will ultimately enhance the next version of Windows. Over the past few weeks, we have been talking about the Certified for Windows Vista Logo Program specifically related to devices. That’s only half the story. Today’s demo video is all about Certified for Windows Vista Software. The video is shot using Canon's new high-def HV20, which is a Certified for Windows Vista device.

In this video I talk about Certified for Windows Vista software from a security, reliability, performance and compatibility perspective. The video shows how easy and seamless it is to install a Certified for Windows Vista software application. To demonstrate that, I have chosen CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 to be installed on an HP Pavilion dv9000z.

Games for Windows: In the Driver's Seat

Today's demo video is all about Games for Windows. In this video (shot using Canon's new high-def HV20, which is Certified for Windows Vista), I talk about what "Games for Windows" means and how it helps ensure that games with this logo are easy to install and play, compatible, and safe. Within the demo, I use Lego Star Wars II and Company of Heroes to show the install process on a Toshiba Satellite P100, which has an NVidia GeForce® Go 7900GTX graphics engine. I also cover the different features within Windows Vista that support gaming, such as Games Explorer and parental features. Other hardware highlighted in the video are the Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows, the Microsoft Reclusa gaming keyboard and Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0.

Certified for Windows Vista Digital Memories Demo

Over the last couple of months, we’ve been working on some Certified for Windows Vista demo videos, which I’ll be posting here over the coming weeks. We shot the videos at my house to showcase a bunch of the Certified for Windows Vista and Works with Windows Vista devices and how they all work together and take advantage of some of the great new features in Windows Vista. We shot the videos using Canon’s new high-def HV20, which is Certified for Windows Vista.

The video I’ve posted here is all about capturing digital memories, using the Canon PowerShot SD900 (which is also Certified for Windows Vista), and then showcasing some cool things that you can do with Windows Vista once you import your photos into Windows Photo Gallery.
