Try the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 RC Today!

Last week we announced the Release Candidate (RC) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2. We initially made it available for TechNet and MSDN subscribers. Today, we’re making it available to anyone interested in testing SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 prior to final release.

You can download the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 RC from our Customer Preview Program site or install through Windows Update using our Windows Update Experience Kit.

If you have the SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Beta installed, you will need to uninstall that first before installing the RC.

    I downloaded the standalone, 57 min. Setup took about 20 min. So far everything to be working. No problems with hardware or software.

    Brandon, please please please ask around and please let me know if we can slipstream SP2 into the Vista with SP1 files. The ability to slipstream was pulled at the time of SP1 however MS said it may be back for SP2. Is this possible?

    Can you uninstall SP2 RC for Vista?   I'd prefer not to test it if it can't be uninstalled.

    Also is there a list of specific fixes?   I have clients who lose all shares and we haven't figured out why yet.   I can still remote into the server, I can still ping it, it doesnt' show any events in the logs yet the shares all dissappear and you can't remap them until you reboot the server.

    Hey Brandon.  I'm bluescreening once a day with Windows 7.  The error message mentions a file name igdkm32, but whenever I run a search I can't find it anywhere.  Please, please, please don't tell me 7's search is as bad as Vista's or I just might cry.  What was wrong with the Windows 2000 search that just found whatever it was you were looking for without any issues?  Between this and the dozen versions of the OS you've announced, I'm starting to lose the good feelings I was rebuilding towards MS.

    Igdkm32 is apparently an "Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver", have you tried downloading the latest Intel drivers for your machine.

    I'm trying to find the right driver.  That doesn't really bother me (it's a beta, I understand), but the fact that a file I know is on the pc doesn't show up when I search for it does.  It's Vista behavior.  Xp and 2k's search worked so much better (if easily finding files is the standard you use) I can't see why they force this upon us.

    One thing you should include after so much time in windows vista is an ability to multi select and multi-hide updates or just an option to hide lang updates in windows vista updater, so you can see that normaly you have 1 optional update 2optionals for your lang not 38.
