Announcing the Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 RC

This week we are announcing that Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 has hit an important milestone in development: Release Candidate (RC). 

Starting today, the RC of SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 will be available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers to test prior to final release. In the very near future, we will be making the RC broadly available for anyone to download and test. You can expect another blog post from me when that happens.

SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 include updates that have been delivered since the release of SP1, as well as support for new types of hardware and emerging standards. As we’ve described since we first talked about SP2, we’ve taken your feedback into account when developing SP2. Specifically, we expect SP2 to continue the security benefits of both products and simplify deployment for our customers.

We are planning to release SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 in the second quarter of 2009.

    Did windows vista sp2 RTM or the general final release come out yet or will they be available soon?

    It's a good thing Windows gives us a ton of options to chose from. After all, why spend money on one computer?

    Step one: Get a brand-new PC. Attempt to update. Find out that your hardware "isn't compatible." Spend a wonderfully large amount of money on a new CPU.

    Step two: dump Windows. Buy a Mac. Be happy.

    I reply - Drumrobot, didn't you know to check hardware for compatability before you spec? Noob mistake. You're right, you're better off with a Mac.

    Hmm, I wonder if they'll update the Windows Experience Index to be on par with Windows 7... A maximum of 5.9 is boring! I want something out of 10 :P then again who cares if you know your hardware :O I think 3rd party software is a go in this case.

    I can no longer sync my phone (Treo) via Bluetooth with my computer after installing SP2 (Vista).  In Device Manager neither the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator nor the Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) #2 are working -- both say device cannot start.  This used to not be a problem and I have seen on other forums that others are having this problem.  Please help Vista team!
