Expiration of Service Pack Blocker Tool for Windows Vista & Windows XP

I have some important information for those of you who have installed the Service Pack Blocker Tool for Windows XP or Windows Vista. The Service Pack Blocker Tool temporarily prevents the installation of a service pack through Windows Update, typically for one year after general availability of the service pack. We are announcing the upcoming expiration dates for the Service Pack Blocker Tool for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3:

  • Windows Vista SP1: April 28, 2009
  • Windows XP SP3: May 19, 2009

After April 28th, Windows Vista SP1 will be delivered via Windows Update. And after May 19th, Windows XP SP3 will also be delivered via Windows Update.

    Sorry, I realize this is OT, but I posted a comment/question on your IE post here a few days ago, Brandon, and I don't know if you saw it.

    I was just wondering when the google toolbar and IERC1 would be compatible.

    Rodrick, you will have to ask Google that question. It will be up to them to release a version of Google Toolbar that works with IE8.

    im curious about what's really the use of blocker tool generally aside from blocking installation of sp's?

    marcpodi, because its a blocker tool for Service Packs - its designed to block only Service Packs and nothing else.

    Excuse my ingnorance. I know what SPs are, but why would you want to block them?

    My Vista already has SP1, but my XP still has SP2.

    Rodrick, the Service Pack Blocker Tools for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 are mainly targeted for IT Pros who are in charge of the administration of small-medium-enterprise networks. Many of these IT Pros want to control when Service Packs are deployed to their systems.

    I have aproblem opening abm files ,due to messing aboutbacking up files and reinstalling them I thought!

    I have downloaded Driver Cure but Im worried about using it. It says 27 drivers need updating could that be correct and should I apply the 'fix if it offers one? I am running VistaSP1 I know I have corrupted a few files but dont want to ruin the registry by messing about -HELP !!

    El 28 de abril caduca la herramienta para Windows Vista y el 19 de mayo la de XP, aunque esto no significa que sea obligatorio instalar los correspondientes service packs, sino que saldrán listados como una opción más a instalar.
