Releasing Windows Vista SP1 for more languages

It has been almost a month since we released Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update in 5 languages. To date: millions of people have successfully installed Windows Vista SP1 on their PCs. So we're happy to announce the next step for Windows Vista SP1 availability.

We are excited to report that today we are making Windows Vista SP1 available to folks running Windows Vista in any of the supported languages. Starting today, users will be able to choose to manually install Windows Vista SP1 via Windows Update or download the standalone installer from the Microsoft Download Center (x86 and x64) for any of the 36 supported languages, not just English, Spanish, German, French, and Japanese. For now, it is available for users who visit Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center. We encourage most users to get Windows Vista SP1 via Windows Update-which will provide the best update experience.

Now, Windows Vista PCs of any supported language can update to SP1.  You may be aware we also make DVD images of Windows Vista with SP1 available to certain groups like TechNet Plus subscribers, MSDN subscribers, and Volume License (VL) customers. TechNet Plus and MSDN subscribers can download these DVD images in some languages today. The remaining languages will be made available in 2 additional groups over the next few weeks.

For your questions regarding Windows Vista SP1, Brandon has developed a Windows Vista SP1 FAQ designed to help answer many of these basic questions.

Windows Vista SP1 will bring some great improvements to PCs running Windows Vista especially in the areas of security, reliability, and performance. For more details on notable changes in Windows Vista SP1, click here.

Hi, where are the SP1 language packs?

I installed Ultimate x64 SP1 integrated and Windows Update is not offering Portuguese Brazilian language pack.

When will be available? Isn't to be this month with the release of SP1 wave-1?

Frankly, after spending 2 hours installing SP1 only to spend another 1 hour waiting for it to rollback after failure, I am EXTREMELY tentative about risking spending that much time with the machine unavailable only to have it roll back again. Right now, I can't justify the risk without some kind of SP1 post indicating that the failure issues have been tracked down and addressed. I know that may sound unreasonable to folks that have had better luck with the thing, but for me, it's the equivalent of driving across the state for 2 hours and then realizing I left the stove on and have to drive back...all because I didn't think to check the stove before I left.

    Guys,

What happened to recdisc.exe?  I used it on pre-release versions and it worked pretty well.  Now I have the final SP1 loaded and the shortcut has been removed from the maintenance menu.  The program is still there in C:\windows\system32\recdisc.exe but if you double click on it, nothing happens.

I see a lot of questions posted about this on other forums but no answers.  The silence has been surprisingly deafening.  I don't think we are talking national security type question  here, so what is the deal guys?

    Thx,

    Bob

I just bought Vista Home Premium to Ultimate upgrade from MSFT.  It came with SP1 integrated.  My only reason to upgrade to Ultimate is to get language packs.  Needless to say, language packs are nowhere to be found after I upgrade to Ultimate SP1.

Is there any timeframe for the release of Vista language packs?  I need them urgently because this computer will be used by somebody who doesn't know English, and Vista without language packs is basically useless.

Honestly, I wonder why SP1 was released (and forcefully integrated into the retail version of Vista Ultimate) before all language packs are ready.  I'm not asking for bells and whistles like DreamScene and extra games here.  I don't even care about the other Ultimate Extras.  I invested hundreds of dollars in my new PC only to find that it doesn't display the language that I want, which is the reason I bought the PC in the first place.  Does your team really care about users who don't speak English?

I wanted to take advance of this to say a thing I noticed about my system. It's great,as I said but there is a thing which actually annoys me. The windows maximise/minimize animation is very nice but after a while it gets boring cause windows seem to open slow. When i toggle off that option from the effects options,i get what i want, fast windows ect...but wheter i close a IE window or open up some other simple explorer windows it displays artifacts for a second, while with animations it does not. With xp this didn't happen, the windows opened immediately. I thought that with sp1 this was solved but explorer navigation in my opinion still has a few problems (just as it regards performance of course). Keep it in mind Microsoft staff. My hardware setting is as followed:

    Amd Athlon 64 X2 4200+

    3 GB RAM

    Ati HD 3850

    Everything updated ect..

    Thank You

I have to say the overall performance has definitely increased with this service pack! Keep up the good work

    @Brandon LeBlanc

Thanks for the page link, but like I said, it would be nice if you could run a tool that tells you the specific reason why SP1 isn't showing up instead of reading of a list of the possible reasons why and trying to figure out which one applies to you.
