Releasing Windows Vista SP1 for more languages

It has been almost a month since we released Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update in 5 languages. To date: millions of people have successfully installed Windows Vista SP1 on their PCs. So we're happy to announce the next step for Windows Vista SP1 availability.

We are excited to report that today we are making Windows Vista SP1 available to folks running Windows Vista in any of the supported languages. Starting today, users will be able to choose to manually install Windows Vista SP1 via Windows Update or download the standalone installer from the Microsoft Download Center (x86 and x64) for any of the 36 supported languages, not just English, Spanish, German, French, and Japanese. For now, it is available for users who visit Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center. We encourage most users to get Windows Vista SP1 via Windows Update-which will provide the best update experience.

Now, Windows Vista PCs of any supported language can update to SP1.  You may be aware we also make DVD images of Windows Vista with SP1 available to certain groups like TechNet Plus subscribers, MSDN subscribers, and Volume License (VL) customers. TechNet Plus and MSDN subscribers can download these DVD images in some languages today. The remaining languages will be made available in 2 additional groups over the next few weeks.

For your questions regarding Windows Vista SP1, Brandon has developed a Windows Vista SP1 FAQ designed to help answer many of these basic questions.

Windows Vista SP1 will bring some great improvements to PCs running Windows Vista especially in the areas of security, reliability, and performance. For more details on notable changes in Windows Vista SP1, click here.

Even with SP1, most customer complaints regarding features are not addressed. And still no word of XPSP3 or more Vista Ultimate Extras. No slipstreaming SP1 either. No SP1 integrated media available to end-users.

someone, retail copies of Windows Vista will include SP1 integrated very soon (not sure on the timeframe as to when they will be appearing on store shelves).

Amazon.com is already selling copies of Windows Vista with SP1 integrated:

So, when can I download SP1? I thought it was being made available via Windows Update over a month ago. But mine never downloaded it.

    What gives?

SP1 still doesn't show up for me. I wish there was a tool that you could install and run to tell you why SP1 isn't showing up so you can know to rectify the issue.

Having a list in the knowledge base isn't as useful:

I purchase a copy of Vista Home Premium sp1.

I did a clean install, after backing up my whole Xp system and files using Acronis, it is compatible with both Xp and Vista. I could always do a full XP recovery and be back to the beginning. No need. Vista is faster loading, clearer picture when using capture. I have had no problems with AC 97 sound or any other hardware. As far as old programs a few old games won't work. Some others I had to purchase upgrades. This happened when I went from DOS to Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 to ME to XP and now Vista. ATI's all in wonder capture protion does not work with Vista, so Nvidia and Hauppauge does with no problems at all. What is really strange is I have a Microsoft Entertainment pack copy writed 1990 - 1994 I belive it was for 3.1. It works great. My eight year son( he is now 35) and myself built our first computer an 8086. I have a home built machine which scores an 4.8 in Vista. Hey I am sixty nine years old and have gone though all 86 based computers and dos before Windows and have had very little problems. My advice: changes and upgrade problems never end, read before you act and take your time.

Now SP1 is available for all languages, SP1 compatible language packs are also known to be ready, updates for installed language packs of

Ultimate users are also offered as optional updates on Windows Update from yesterday on, still no further language packs are available through Windows Update. Why is it so?

  8. Posted on: April 16, 2008 at 4:28AM

Yes, I know retail copies will be available, but for those who already owned RTM, there's no free way to get SP1 integrated media without buying it again!

I have been through files of support, but I can't find what are others 'supported languages' available from this new SP1. Except for the first release of English, Spanish, German, French and Japanese. Someone can help ?
