Windows Vista SP1 Update

I have a quick update for you about Windows Vista SP1. The Microsoft Update Blog contains some important information about updates to the SP1 prerequisite distribution plan. Starting tomorrow, we are resuming the automatic update and installation of the Servicing Stack Update.

In mid-April, we will begin distributing SP1 (in the first 5 languages) using the Automatic Update system.  We have a lot of Windows users, so not everyone will get it on the same day.  In fact, it will go to a small percentage of Windows Vista users each day. The exact timing of when you will receive it depends on when your PC is ready for Windows Vista SP1.

In addition to starting the automatic delivery of the first 5 languages, I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you that also we're on track for the initial release of SP1 in the remaining languages in mid-April.

    XP SP3 is faster then Vista

    @Chris Flores:

    How come Microsoft is pushing forward with distribution before it addresses remaining Vista issues? An example is the WMP 11 problem Vista SP1 users are experiencing: http://digg.com/microsoft/Has_Vista_SP1_Broken_Netflix_Instant_Watching

    Vista users need to be able to re-install WMP11.

    Also, how come some yahoo named Daniel_K can release updated Creative drivers before Microsoft and Creative can?

    The service pack just feels a little under-tested to me still.

    @eponymousnyc:

    No one ever said Vista was faster than XP in the first place. It is meant to take advantage of future hardware advances, at the expense of a little speed right now.

    webgui012, I am investigating the Netflix issue with some folks at Microsoft and will post again when I hear anything back. In regards to Creative drivers - it is up to Creative to create drivers for their hardware, this is not something Microsoft does.

    BillD and Dovella, Microsoft has not officially announced a date for when SP1 will be pushed out automatically on Windows Updates or when the new languages for SP1 will be available. Unless you here it from us, take whatever dates are being tossed around with a grain of salt. As we stated in the above blog post - we're looking at Mid-April for automatic distribution of Windows Update and new languages.

    Also: BillD you mention April 9th as to when SP1 will be available on Windows Update with "user interaction is required" - SP1 has been available on Windows Update with "user interaction is required" since March 18th.

    So Im curious, what happens to all the retail FPP versions of Vista without SP1 once the new boxed copies of Vista+SP1 hits store shelves, are they simply recycled or simply left in the retail channel of stores like BestBuy or CircuitCity to deminish with regular sales.

    The reason I ask was because at my local Target FPP Vista has not been available for a few weeks.  But the store labels now state Vista + SP1 !

    SP1 caused blocking of my OEM Vista Home Premium. Should I remove SP1 to get an access to my PC? How do I do this? Can get it running only in the safe mode...

    Andy D, you should probably contact Microsoft Support regarding your issue as they are better equipped to help you troubleshoot:

    Be sure you choose "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (All Languages)".

    Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the product is called Vista Business, but it can't map network drives using a logon script which is something some businesses might like to do?

    When Microsoft released Windows Vista's first service pack last month, you had to take action to get it. You could either download it by manually launching Windows Update, or go grab a XXX-megabyte file at the Microsoft Download Center....
