Microsoft Introduces $10,000 Digital Home Makeover Contest

Did you know that the Windows Media Center team is conducting a Digital Home Makeover Contest to celebrate the consumer availability of new Extenders for Windows Media Center?  For one lucky winner, a makeover team will transform their disconnected digital lifestyle into a home entertainment dream with a prize package totaling up to $10,000!!!

The Digital Home Makeover Contest is designed to address the real challenges people face when adopting today's digital lifestyle. Today's consumers have a wide variety of digital content in their homes-thousands of digital pictures, MP3's, TV shows and movies- and homes may have dozens of devices which allow people to interact with and enjoy this content. But wouldn't it be nice if digital media could be seamlessly viewed and accessible around the home?

The winner of the Digital Home Makeover Contest will receive what they need to take control of connecting their entertainment options and start enjoying content from room to room, anywhere in the house. Microsoft is accepting entries in the form of two-minute videos that illustrate a contestant's disconnected digital lifestyle and why they need a digital home makeover.  Entries will be accepted through May 2nd at http://www.windowsmediacenter.com/contest

    Hi All

Now this is really a Vista SP1 issue by it severely affects MCE.

Extenders will not run or connect after SP1 is installed.

I suspect it has to do with the MS guys locking out the multi-user termsvr.dll hack has affected the fast user switching components which the extender technology uses as well.

Then again I wonder if the MS guys did what the NetGear wireless guys did and hijacked fast user switching for some other purpose( which produces the same result as that which is occuring in Vista SP1).

Kiwozi, I responded to your comment in another blog post. However I own a Windows Media Center Extender and am running Windows Vista SP1 and things work fine. I know of many others who have extenders and SP1 and things are working for them as well. To say all Windows Media Center Extenders don't work with SP1 would be inaccurate. However if you would give me the model of the extender you are having issues with I can relay the issue to folks at Microsoft and try to see what's up.

    Thanks,

    Brandon
