Update on Windows Vista SP1 Prerequisite KB937287

UPDATE 2/21: When calling 1-866-PC-Safety - be sure to let the support agent know you are calling in reference to a Windows Update issue. Also: Microsoft has released KB949358 containing information regarding the issues related to KB937287.

We've heard a few reports about problems customers may be experiencing as a result of KB937287, the servicing stack update I blogged about last week, and I wanted to provide a quick update for you. Immediately after receiving reports of this error, we made the decision to temporarily suspend automatic distribution of the update to avoid further customer impact while we investigate possible causes.

So far, we've been able to determine that this problem only affects a small number of customers in unique circumstances. We are working to identify possible solutions and will make the update available again shortly after we address the issue.

Customers who may be experiencing this issue can use system restore to correct it or contact 1-866-PC-Safety for help troubleshooting.  Additional guidance will be available via Microsoft's free Update Support Center soon.

Thanks MAZZTer...Will leave it alone, and thank you for providing info regarding restore with the Vista DVD. I never knew this. Thanks again...

MAZZter is correct - if you haven't experienced any issues with installing the update you can leave it alone.

Kittyburgers, that is really weird - I will forward it on to some folks here at Microsoft.

James68, I'll do a post shortly on looking at doing a restore from the Windows Vista DVD. Look out for it.

For my PCs - I usually utilize Windows Vista's system restore feature if something messes up my system. It works great. I haven't had to do a reformat in quite a long time.

Yea, what is up with this update... It keep re-appearing on my Windows Update after I installed it. I even rebooted my computer and did a full shut-down, and the update is still there. After each update, Window Update says it was successfully installed. After installing it 4 times, and decided to hide it, so that it stop updating uselessly.

Hopefully the update was really installed properly and I can upgrade to Vista SP1.

I don't have a fancy manchy computer... these are my specs:

    - Windows ultimate RETAIL 64-bit. Using Windows default settings (nothing has been changed, except the Temp directory location)

    - AMD AThlon X2 4400+ S939

    - Nforce 4 ASUS A8N32-SLI

    - 2GB of RAM at 400Mhz 3-3-3-8 2T

    - Geforce 6600 GT 128MB of RAM.

    - 250 GB HDD, Western DIgital, 16MB of Buffer SATA-II

    - All latest drivers installed

    - WIndows fully updated

    - All applications are 100% Vista compatible

    - 0 spyware/malware check with 3 programs including Windows Defender

    - 0 virus

    Any idea on this?

Brandon LeBlanc - Thank you and will be looking forward for your Restore post.

It seemed to have installed fine on my 64 bit ultimate version, yet says "failed" on my 32 bit business version. Should I leave it be or should I be concerned? Just a tad bit confued here. :/

Hannabull, is your 32-bit Business version experiencing any issues after the installation of the KB937287 update? If not you can leave it.

    Hi all

Is this issue connected to a Big problem with Vista at the moment with auto updates. I am using XP at the moment because my Vista is stuck in an endless loop trying to update*3 of 3 Updates". Vista just loops all the time and restarting for ever! I have tried the disk to repair, does not repair. Tried to use Restore point, says I have no restore points. Safe mode does not work. What the H.. is going on. Others are reporting the same problem. What is the solution? Please.

    S. Marusic, try putting in your Windows Vista disc and booting off it and doing a system restore.
