Do the (RED) thing

There's been some speculation online that Windows, Dell and (RED) are going to make an announcement later this week at Davos.  Wouldn't it be incredible if, through the simple act of choosing a PC, and at no extra cost to you, you could put someone living with AIDS in Africa on antiretroviral (ARV) treatment for more than six months?  Windows, Dell and (RED) are proud to introduce our (PRODUCT) RED products later this week.  Look for details in the coming days...

Excellent news!  It's nice to know that I can meet the needs of my clients with the purchase of a new computers and help people across the world.  This is certainly a welcome development.

Speaking of development, all I have to do now is get you guys off your asses regarding those Windows Ultimate Extras I don't seem to be getting...

I would rather see the research sent elsewhere, maybe something like Cancer, or organ growth.

AID just shouldn't be the focus of the world right now. One doesn't have to do anything to get cancer, it just happens sometimes. AIDs prevention is where we should be investing, prevention is better than curing. You can't prevent cancer, not yet.

Hey Trix:  I'd invite you to read the (RED) site, as prevention is indeed an integral part of their approach:  http://www.joinred.com/.

RED still doesn't need the money, AIDs research has gotten no where. Heck I'd rather see a plant the tree approach standard....

I'm not the only "crazy one", there are a few comments on neowin that share my view, I just wanted to point that out. I am not being a jerk here, I just would like to see funding go elsewhere...

well, I am always ready to help

I'm all for the finding a cure for AIDs and helping people out... but why is all the funding going over to Africa? Why is it that I never see something about a company like that helping people here in the US?

I will say this though, it was a very bright move on their part to partner with the two largest companies dealing with computers around. Only thing they could do that would raise more money is get with AMD that way when people buy a Dell, with Vista, using an AMD processor, they could get a little more for AIDs funding for finding a cure.

    Sorry about the long rant...

Any truth to the story that Vista's replacement will be out next year?

Hey eponymousnyc:  W7 is in development and we'll talk about it when the time comes; for now, conversation on this blog centers around Windows Vista.

Wow looks like my comment last night didnt make it through moderation.  Maybe that was the part about Brazil breaking patent laws on retrovirals that got me nabbed?

Heres a link, its not like I was lying?

I guess I need to simplify my response.. Good work Dell and Microsoft, I hope that this initiative towards a worthy cause is successful and that it can help people affected with Aids and inspire other companies to act to.  Hopefully with more Basic Reasearch combined with these efforts Aids will soon become an easily controlled or cured disease!

    Keep up the good work.

Oh and as for Cancer heres a scary stat from the NIH

1:2 US men will get it in their lifetime and 1:3 women US women will get it.  Pretty scary.

Microsoft was going to wait until Davos to announce this, but C|NET (as usual) doesn't have much respect

You may be used to seeing the Windows Vista user experience in a shade of blue. (Well, it looks blue.)
