Final iPod update is available via Download Center

Today we're publishing at the Microsoft Download Center a recommended final compatibility update for users of Windows Vista and the Apple iPod; this same update will be automatically available via Windows Update on Tuesday 22 May.  The release is for users worldwide and works with the latest version of Apple iTunes to correct an issue that caused some iPods to become corrupted when ejecting them using Windows Explorer or the "Safely Remove Hardware" function in the System Tray.

The long and short of it is this:  Apple and Windows have partnered together to ensure a great experience in using Windows Vista with iTunes and the iPod, and both companies recommend you download this update.

Are you running a RAID disk array? There is a known issue with itunes and the photos sync. Download latest version of Intel Matrix Storage Manager and all should be fine. Not tried this out yet but will do tongight. It has taken me weeks and weeks to find this solution. From the support site I visited comments tend to indicate that it works fine.

Just to let you guys/girls know. The Intel Matrix download works a treat!!! I have no idea why this has not ever been posted on Apple site or Vista Microsoft official site or even the dell site. Looks like issue was in the end to do with Intel and the Raid controller. Photo sync works fine with jpg files now. But what an effort and many days spent doing reformats etc.. beacuse of corrupt Raid array.

I have fixed mine. Sounds stupid but all I did was delete the ipod cache in the pictures directory and then resynched photos

    Help!

I've bought an ipod and my laptop with Vista Basic won't recognise it.  I've been to the Apple store and they've tried to sort it for me but it didn't work.  I've tried the ipod on my parents PC with XP and it synced up perfectly.  So what's missing on Vista - why can't I get it to sync.  Please come back to me soon.  Thanks...

When I downloaded this update it said it was not for my system.  What's up with that?

    Hey,

ive tried to install the kb936824 update for my vista home premium, but it reported it was not for my system.  my ipod WAS working for about a week with iTunes, but suddenly became corrupted, that no amount of resetting or restoring or connecting with XP will correct.  any suggestions for fixes?  thanks

    Craig123:

I was having the same issues with my 2nd gen nano and 64 bit Vista. I did a couple of things in a row so I’m not sure if only one of these things -- or if both worked together:

    1. When the prompt asks me if I want the device scanned, I said yes. (however, it told me that the disc was not accessible. I didn’t do anything further from there.)

2.Next, I reset my factory settings on my ipod through iTunes.

For whatever reason, doing both of these things worked for me, even if it didn't seem to work for other people!

Also, I was annoyed by the AutoPlay feature popping up whenever I plugged in my ipod, but fixing that is easy: open the control panel and choose Auto Play. Uncheck the box that says “use autoplay for all media devices” and hit “save”.  Now the only thing that automatically opens when I dock the ipod is iTunes.

    Hope this helps!

I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I also have a computer with XP. I can use my ipod as a hard drive on XP. But when I use it with Vista it tells me it needs to be formatted to PC (it is). And I can not see the Ipod. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Dave

Sometimes improper shutdown and removal for hardware directly corrupt windows and cause serious data loss
