Welcome to The Windows Blog

See you at MIX07

This year's MIX07 promises to be an exciting 72-hour conversation amongst Web devs, designers, advertisers, decision-makers and MS (I'll be there), with Ray Ozzie and General Manager Scott Gunthrie slated to start it all off with their keynote.  Just like last year at MIX06, MS is continuing to "mix" it up (the audience, that is) to get various perspectives on bringing next-generation experiences to the Web.

MIX07 at Las Vegas' Venetian Hotel offers a variety of sessions, such as "Blending Up User Experiences" (focusing on WPF integration and implementation) to "IE7 Past, Present, and Future" (browser features and futures).  And of course Windows Vista is right in the middle of it all, being the OS underpinning many of the advances in the Web experience.

Even better?  All MIX07 attendees receive a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate.

Last year's MIX saw the Beta 2 Refresh of IE7, giving developers and web designers a peek at Microsoft’s brand new Web browser now shipping with Windows Vista.

This year’s MIX should be quite interesting.  If you're not already signed up, do so before 15 March so as to take advantage of the early-bird discount of 15% off the full conference registration price.

And if you want to share your excitement for the event, you can even put some MIX bling on your website or blog.

Meet Me at MIX07

See you there ...

I can't see an area to start a new blog, so I am commenting here.  I have worked on MANY computer systems in my life and I have never had more trouble than when I purchased a new computer with Windows Vista. Best Buy is stating that its because Microsoft did not give the stores a "heads up" on the operating system.  We purchased this system on 2-17-07.  I have been on the phone or in the store with the tower everyday!  Well today is the last day! They switched out the tower and are checking it over, so I am picking it up at lunch.  However, I have asked them to DUMP VISTA and I am paying another $200.00 to have them install Windows XP, until Bill Gates gets off his butt and fixes all of these problems!!

I suggest that, with future upgrades, that you let the stores have a month or so to work out all of the bugs, before that start selling the hardware to the public!!!

HI, I have been trying to find my way around here, and simply ask a question.  I would like to get Vista Ultimate and install it on a system running 2 Pentium 111, 1.5 ghz processors.  Will Vista run on this system??

SORRY, if this is not the place for this,  but after an hour of searching, this was my only choice. Please help!

    Hey Jennie (badvista).

I'm sad that you felt you had to fork out $200 to BestBuy to put XP onto your Vista based machine.  The problem may not be due solely to Vista but due to software/hardware conflict.  In other words the PC manufacturer may be partially to blame.

In your situation I would have contacted the PC manufacturer first to see if that is the case, and see if there are any system updates that may have solved the problem... Or if they know theres a problem and are working to fix it.

Just remember that Vista will only improve with time, but as with all new things early adopters will discover the occasional software/hardware bug.

If it is infact an error on the PC manufacturers end, you could then try to get a refund for Microsoft for the copy of XP you purchased through the Microsoft North American Retail Product 45-Day Refund Policy

(I'll post the web address when I find it)

Don't quote me on that though, as I dont work for Microsoft, and there are some exclusions e.g. OEM copys of software do not qualify.  Ofcourse I doubt best buy will refund the installation charges if they charged you a service fee.
