Welcome to The Windows Blog

Check out the Windows Vista Innovation Café

Looking for new and innovative applications built especially for Windows Vista?  If so, then the Windows Vista Innovation Café is the place for you.

At this new showcase site you can discover new applications that take full advantage of the enhancements built right into Windows Vista.  The Innovation Café features 18 partners and 30-45-second interactive demos of each of their applications.

Here're a few of my favorite apps being showcased:

The New York Times Reader

We've talked about this one before, but it never ceases to amaze me -- I think it's a fine representation of the rich media experience we can expect in the future from today's publications existing in the physical world.

New York Times Reader

British Library Turning the Pages 2.0

Virtually turn the pages of some of the world's most famous publications with the British Library Turning the Pages 2.0.  You can browse through Leonardo Da Vinci's Codex Leicester (currently on loan by one Bill Gates).

iBloks

iBloks allows users to create high-quality self expressions by using photos, music and video to create 3D movies in under a minute -- and then it allows you to share your creations with your friends.

Find out what they're all about.  And keep an eye on the site for new inventions our partners have up their sleeves.

I know this is somewhat off topic,

but what avenue should we use to report bugs for the release version of Vista?

I'm still noticing some quirks; some are app-compat and some are probably driver-related, but some are definitely Vista bugs.

Why is the British Library making some content exclusive to Turning the Pages 2.0? Are they trying to support Microsoft?

pity I returned my "defective by design" upgrade version of Vista Business. Nobody from Microsoft never really answered about why they changed the upgrade procedure on Vista.

Hey r3m0t:  I think the only restriction is on the Codex Leicester loaned by Bill Gates.  I don't have insight into the reason for such a restriction, however.

Hey jaross:  feel free to use the unaltered images on this blog in your own blog, of course with proper attribution as to their source, per the usual Netiquette.

Hey Lone Shepherd:  the public newsgroups are always a good channel for bug reporting and discussion.  Many issues are picked up by the new diagnostics technology in the Problem Reports and Solutions control panel, but if one happens not to be detected, I'd suggest going to the newsgroups to look for an existing report of the issue or to open up discussion on the topic if that has not already occurred.

iBloks is such a supid application. And whats that: on the iBloks website it reads "certified for Windows Vista" but the tutorial videos are captured on a Mac? Sorry gentlemen, but how stupid is that? You are killing your Windows brand with such stuff.

tino: It's certified for Vista, but I suppose it also works on a Mac. What's wrong with that? Should they record everything twice?

@r3m0t: Yes, because its about Windows Vista. I know that WPF is also coming to other platforms but sometimes it looks not very professional. On some interactive Flash shows on the new Vista website you can see some PCs with a one button Mac mouse! I hope this is a joke?!

I mentioned earlier what is one of the reasons I really love Vista - and if you don't remember - it was because it enables programmers to create an amazing array of applications with completely different, innovative and inviting designs....
