Windows Mobile Device Center RTMs!

The Windows Mobile Device Center team is happy to announce the official launch of Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) for Windows Vista.  Thank you to all our customers for downloading Beta 3 and sending the team feedback.   The link to the download site is here.  The RTM build will also be available as an update via Windows Update by the end of the week.

Please read the instructions on the download site carefully.  It is recommended that you uninstall any previous version of WMDC and the WMDC driver update before installing WMDC RTM.

Hello all. I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit) on my pc and well I've used WMDC beta 3 and it worked for me but now I installed WMDC 6 from Microsoft but it's not installing my PDA. Vista keeps trying install the drivers for "Unidentified Device" but it can't find the drivers. I have tried so many ways to get around this but can't. Can anyone else help? Thanks in advance.

Hi I am running into this problem please help me I have a Dell Axim 50v running on Pocket PC 2003. and I have a notebook runing on vista with WMDC 6 when I can sync using cardle but when I try to do it through bluetooth it doesn't work. I click on bluetooth manager on my PPC and then click active syc via bluetooth it finds my notebook and when i click on it it says service dicovery was unsuccessful. The requested service is not running on this device. Pleas make sure the service is enabled on the device or select another one to continue. Please note that my computer and ppc both discover each other and I am able to send file from one another through my computer to each other. The only thing is that WMDC doensn't work through bluetooth.

    Thanks

I have serveral PXA255 devices with Windows CE 4.2 installed that can only

use a serial cable (COM1) to connect with ActiveSync in an XP environment.

At one point, the Windows Mobile Device Center suppported this connection method, but due to some updates, it no longer does.

Does anyone know a way to configure the Windows Mobile Device Center to use

a similar serial cable connection in a Vista environment for these devices?

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 Laptop with Vista Ultimate and a Dell Axim 51v w/ PPC 2003.  I have been able to successfully synch with WMDC quite easily (much less effort than the old Active Synch) via USB!!  However, I would really like to synch via Bluetooth.  A few comments above have bits and pieces of issues or solutions but I need to know the series of steps on both devices to get to the point of synching.  I cannot get the devices to see each other and just need to start from the beginning.  Any help from those that know way more than I do...ok most if not all of the people on this Blog ;-) is much appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Hey vrudi:  I'd suggest directing your inquiry to a newsgroup dedicated to Windows Embedded development; you can find them listed at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/embedded/default.aspx.  You might also try Mike Hall's blog, as he's an expert in embedded development on MS platforms:  http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/embedded/aa731228.aspx.

It sure would be nice if it stated on the wmdc webpage that it didn't support windows contacts, mail and calendar so I people(me) wouldn't spend hours trying to get it to work.

Having installed Windows Mobile Device Center and set it up, I'm quite disappointed to see that with Pocket PCs, an option for conflict handling has been removed.

Previously, in ActiveSync, an option existed such that when two files conflicted (meaning both the file on the computer and the file on the Pocket PC have been modified independently since the last sync), you could choose to be prompted about which to keep (or you could postpone syncing that file).

Now, in the Mobile Device Center, you must choose, in advance, to in all cases either overwrite the computer file, or overwrite the Pocket PC file, without warning.

So basically, either way, you're at risk for losing data without warning if you accidentally  edit both files. Why was this option removed? It's critical that it be re-added as this is a potential data loss scenario. What's worse, as ActiveSync doesn't even work in Windows Vista, I have no choice about going back a version (unless I go back to Windows XP).

The instrutions below do not seem to work as under connections

    4. USB to PC  does not exists for a Qtek 9100.  Is there another name for this.

    " Hi DLipkie,

I can't speak for your Outlook problem but you may want to end wmdc.exe in task manager to make sure the application still doesn't have a handle on Outlook.  Then restart wmdc.exe.

Your syncing problem is a known issue with Cingular 8525 devices.  You will want to switch the USB mode of your driver from serial USB to RNDIS USB.  Here are the general steps for any device:

    1. Start

    2. Settings

    3. Connections tab

    4. USB to PC

    5. Check ‘Enable advanced network functionality’

    Hope that helps!"

This is supposed to be an improvement over activsync? I never had a problem syncing my HP5450 2003 to my XP pro laptop but to this one well.....

    I keep getting the error

I downloaded the above and tried to syncronise my pda a HP 5450.  I keep getting the following error..

"Synchronisation  cannot start because this desktop computer cannot access necessary information.Restart the desktop and synchronise again. If the problem persists and this desktop is running Outlook 2000, open Outlook 2000 and click help, then click detect and repair"

I am running outlook 2000 - I have done all the above many times - I have reinstalled both office 2000 and WMDC many times with the pda attached. No luck. I have also uploaded all Office 2000 upgrades etc.

I am at my wits end - I had no problems with activ sync and XP..

So is this an WMDC error / bug or what?

    Graham
