Windows Mobile Device Center RTMs!

The Windows Mobile Device Center team is happy to announce the official launch of Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) for Windows Vista.  Thank you to all our customers for downloading Beta 3 and sending the team feedback.   The link to the download site is here.  The RTM build will also be available as an update via Windows Update by the end of the week.

Please read the instructions on the download site carefully.  It is recommended that you uninstall any previous version of WMDC and the WMDC driver update before installing WMDC RTM.

If you have questions regarding Windows Mobile Device Center RTM or need some troubleshooting help, please post your questions to the following newsgroups:

    Microsoft.public.pocketpc

    Microsoft.public.pocketpc.ActiveSync

We are still in the process of creating a Windows Mobile Device Center newsgroup.  I will send out a post when that newsgroup has been created.  It will likely be placed under Microsoft.public.pocketpc

I would also like to say that lack of support for Windows Calendar and Windows Contacts is a major disappointment. They could work so seamlessly together, and it is a bit surprising that they don't.

I was I hope a later version supports them!

    Janely,

Thanks for the feedback, but my Blackjack is a smartphone so I don't have the same options under WM 5 as the PocketPC has. Any other ideas?

    Thanks.

I'm having a bit of a problem with WMDC and sync to Mobile 5.0 on a Cingular 8525. The sysc seemed to hang about half way though (1200 out of 2800 contacts) and I now have corrupt Outlook file. Running Outlook 2007 just puts it into a very sluggish state with the "cirle the wagons" mouse. Suggestions on next steps? Scanpst couldn't open to begin repair of pst. An easy way to delete create a new PST?

    Hi DLipkie,

I can't speak for your Outlook problem but you may want to end wmdc.exe in task manager to make sure the application still doesn't have a handle on Outlook.  Then restart wmdc.exe.

Your syncing problem is a known issue with Cingular 8525 devices.  You will want to switch the USB mode of your driver from serial USB to RNDIS USB.  Here are the general steps for any device:

    1. Start

    2. Settings

    3. Connections tab

    4. USB to PC

    5. Check ‘Enable advanced network functionality’

    Hope that helps!

I have an HP IPAQ 5550 running Windows Mobile 2003 (Pocket PC 2003).  The Windows Mobile Device Center does not recognize the IPAQ when connected via USB.  Vista returns a unrecognized USB device error.  Is this a driver issue or a compatibility problem between Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Vista?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for everyone's feedback! Currently, Windows Mobile Device Center only supports synchronization with Outlook or Exchange.  We do not currently support synchronization with Windows Mail, Windows Calendar or the Windows Address book.  This is on our future roadmap but we have not have a release date yet

My Samsung SCH-i730 running Windows Mobile 5 worked for about a week.  Then it stopped syncing Wednesday of this week (after Tuesday patch day).  I looked through the blog and looked at the fixes there is no USB to PC item in the connections tab.  I should note that Vista does see the device and sets up the network connection for it but WMDC never shows it as connected.  Thanks

Hey jlorimer:  you'll want to direct support-related questions to our public newsgroups, as we cannot field them on this blog.

Thanks, just saw similar problems with other mobile devices and WMDC.  Guess I will move the phone back to my XP box where it works 100% with ActiveSync.
