Windows Mobile Device Center RTMs!

The Windows Mobile Device Center team is happy to announce the official launch of Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) for Windows Vista.  Thank you to all our customers for downloading Beta 3 and sending the team feedback.   The link to the download site is here.  The RTM build will also be available as an update via Windows Update by the end of the week.

Please read the instructions on the download site carefully.  It is recommended that you uninstall any previous version of WMDC and the WMDC driver update before installing WMDC RTM.

DEP is coming down on my mobile device center. I was wondering where the exe is located so I can exempt it.

MS if you are listening, your customers want Mobile Device Center to ALSO support SyncML.

I agree with some of the above: why is there no support for Calendar, Contacts and Mail, and will we see any sometime in the future? Especially now that Outlook is no longer in Office Home & Student.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit and a Samsung Sch-i730 running on WM5. On several attempts I have tried to sync via bluetooth but I keep getting this message "Synchronization can not be started because you are not able to logon to the network and access information...." It than says to restart the computer which does not resolve the problem! My device appears in both My Computer and on Windows Mobile Device and I am able to setup a partnership between the devices. The only problem is I can't sync my contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes. I am using Office 2007 Enterprise. Three notifications appear in Sync Center, one error, one sync failed, and one sync started! Some one helpppp. Thanks

    Hi ibnSlick,

Thanks for your question.  For bluetooth sync, you need to first connect your device via USB so our services will be running.

My guess is that you are encountering firewall issues.  Do you have OneCareRTW installed?   We are currently working out some compatibility issues with OneCare.  If you have OneCare installed, you will need to ensure that the Windows Mobile Device Center rule is checked.  You will need to add and enable the TCP inbound port 5721.

    Hope that helps.

Now that I've installed the RTM, it doesn't work anymore with my HTC TyTn.  Beta 3 worked just fine.  Can you give me a link where I can download the beta again or fix this one?

Update: I found my original Beta 3 download, reinstalled it, and it works again.  Seems that RTM wasn't really, was it?

I ran into problem with WMDC after I installed OneCare on my PC. I had to turn on Activesync in OneCare's Firewall\Advance\Ports and Protocols so that WMDC and Sync would see my Cinglar Blackjack phone. I now have another issues and that WMP 11 and Yahoo's Music Jukebox does not see the storage card on the Blackjack. I've run out of ideas as to what could be causing this problem.

    thenefas,

Exactly how was RTM not working for you.  If you give me some specifics, perhaps i can find a solution for you.  RTM is recommended as we don't provide support for WMDC Beta 3 anymore.

    tpaquette,

Currently there is a bug on how Windows Media Player uses WMDC to enumerate different USB devices.  It is my understanding that WMP will release a hotfix on Windows Update at the end of February.  In the meantime, you can workaround this bug by manually switching from RNDIS USB driver to the serial USB driver

Instructions for Windows Mobile 5 on PocketPC:

    1. Start

    2. Settings

    3. Connections tab

    4. USB to PC

    5. Uncheck ‘Enable advanced network functionality’

When the WMP hotfix is on Windows Update, I will provide a post.

    Hope that helps!
