Announcing the Windows Vista Coach Tour

Road trip!  By now I'm sure you've heard that the "Wow" starts now.  Well, now we're bringing the "Wow" to you!  From 16-24 January, I and a few Windows community influencers will hop on a custom-wrapped Windows Vista bus and visit major cities on the East coast of the United States:

  • Nashville
  • Lexington
  • Cincinnati
  • Columbus
  • Pittsburgh
  • Philadelphia
  • Baltimore
  • Washington, DC
  • Charlotte
  • Savannah
  • Jacksonville
  • Orlando
  • Gainesville
  • Atlanta
  • ... and points in between

We'll then return to Nashville to wrap up the tour on the 24th.

There'll be tons of chances for you to spot us at places in and around these cities and also on the highways in-between.  The coach itself is pretty sharp -- it's wrapped with a custom design based on the Windows Vista "energy" theme that is the default wallpaper.  Our friends at AMD will be part of the branding as well.  On board there'll be free Wi-Fi if you need to check your mail and a very comfortable lounge area where you can test-drive numerous systems running Windows Vista and an Xbox 360, or enjoy a refreshment while chatting with us about Windows Vista.

This will be a really exciting tour.  I've never been a part of such an extensive road trip like this before and look forward to meeting regular folks interested in seeing demos of Windows Vista in person.  We'll show off several PCs running Windows Vista while demo'ing things like Ultimate Extras, speech recognition, Tablet functionality, and the way Media Center works with the Xbox 360 as an extender.  We've got some cool stuff to give away, and we'll capture video and still photos of our interactions so that you all on this blog can be a part of the action.  We'll also be prepared to answer the many questions we anticipate that the folks will have.

I'll post day-by-day video and text updates during the week while we're on the road.  Oh, and we're also working on a way for you to track our travels with a Sidebar gadget -- more on that later.

It would be helpful if you could list dates/times with the cities.

    Thanks

yes, a list of dates/times would be very helpful.  Also, could you provide us with the places you will be going while in the individual cities, or do we have to find you guys?  I live in Charlotte, and would really like to attend.

That sounds really cool...but what about the West...you know...where a lot of the tech companies originate from? What about California (my state, I'm in Oxnard, CA)...you know...the state with the most population...I'm sure there's something planned for us...right? I've been waiting for anything for us because since I'm not an official "IT" person, I can't really attend the seminars, so I've been waiting for any consumer-oriented events...but no...it's all in New York...and now this. (OK, I'll stop using the "..." but it's all I can think of). Anyways, all of you who get to have some fun, go ahead and do so, but could you please do something extra happy so it can makeup for what I'm missing. Thanks, great job with the marketing too guys, it finally looks like the "multi-million" dollar marketing campaign we were promised...I can't wait!

Cool, have a good time touring the East Coast.  Wish I could go, as it sounds fun, but I dont live on the East Coast.  Nice to see you visiting North Carolina, as I used to live there.

Hey Alber1690:  given that CES was last week and the week following out coach tour is the launch in NYC, we're just too strapped for time to be able to hit both coasts.  I'd have liked to have done both myself, being a native Seattleite, but there simply isn't time and the cities are too far apart in many cases.  But, we're holding local launch events for developers and IT pros in many localities, so take a look for the one nearest you:  http://www.technetevents.com/default.aspx.

    Hey HKLM, Chris3d, et al:

Our schedule will have to be fluid depending on weather, timing, the reception we receive at each stop, etc, but it will roughly look like this:

Begin:  16 Jan in Nashville, TN

End:  23 Jan in Nashville, TN

    Date/From/To

    Day 1, 16-Jan

    Nashville/Lexington/Cincinnati/Columbus

    Day 2, 17-Jan

    Columbus/Pittsburgh/Pittsburg/Philadelphia/Baltimore/Washington, DC

    Day 3, 18-Jan

    Washington, DC/Richmond, VA/Williamsburg

    Day 4, 19-Jan

    Williamsburg/Charlotte

    Day 5, 20-Jan

    Charlotte/Raleigh-Durham/Savannah/Jacksonville

    Day 6, 21-Jan

    Jacksonville/Orlando/Gainesville

    Day 7, 22-Jan

    Gainesville/Atlanta/Athens

    Day 8, 23-Jan

    Athens/Nashville

I'm thinking that in reality we'll need to split Day 2 into two separate days, thus pushing the remainder of the schedule back by 1 day.  But, we'll need to play it by ear to some degree, largely depending on our audience in each locale.  So, expect that we'll post regularly to this blog about where we are currently (we've got a gadget coming that will help with that) and where & when we expect to be next.

We're looking forward to seeing you all in the coming 10 days!

It is too late to wow me.  If you wanted to wow me, you should have had companies on board to get their drivers onto the RTM disc - the same RTM image you released to MSDN.

The very same RTM image that causes nothing but problems, ENDLESS problems.  Maybe, after people finish writing their drivers and then testing them (I get the impression that many companies did not even START writing their drivers until after the RTM, and if ATI's beta period is any indication, it is gonna be a LONG wait), maybe then I might get wowed again.

Instead, I am just overly annoyed that common hardware isn't supported.  From Promise 378 controllers to Linksys wireless adapters to any video card older than 2 years old, Vista just doesn't perform.

As it is now, the only wow I have is: "WOW, my system locked solid booting again", "Wow, 20,000 drivers and none of them seem to be for anything I actually need.", or how about : "WOW DOES THIS EXPERIENCE EVER SUCK"

Those are my current wows, do you honestly think a pretty bus is going to change that?  Wow, what are you thinking...

And while we are on the wow topic : Wow, why does this site kill my IE7 browser every second visit when I scroll the page?
