Announcing (English only) support for CPP participants

We're pleased to announce the addition of best-effort phone support (in English only) to North America CPP participants of the Windows Vista Customer Preview Program (CPP) using English-language versions of early test builds of Windows Vista (Beta 2, RC1 or RC2).

This is another step in our process of ramping up preparations for the 30th January general availability of Windows Vista.  We'll of course begin offering product phone support to the general public on the first day of Windows Vista's availability.

Details on accessing this phone support:

  • Phone Number:  866-425-0593
  • Hours of Availability:
    • Monday – Friday:  5AM-9PM Pacific Time
    • Saturday – Sunday:  6AM-3PM Pacific Time
  • English only (US & Canada)
  • Best-effort troubleshooting in a consumer, non-domain environment

For all CPP participants, the newsgroups remain the most valuable channel for finding helpful information on general issues related to Windows Vista.

Volume License customers looking for Windows Vista Enterprise- or Professional-level support today should visit the Microsoft Windows Vista Solutions Center and the Windows Vista Help & Support page.

    P.S.  I'm struggling with a few "critters" in a licensed copy of the RTM.  Can I call the free CPP line for support?  :-}

    I'm already transitioning back to XP and waiting until next year to purchase my Vista licences. I've also stopped posting on various Vista forums simply because I'm not comfortable providing help  to people who have the RTM build while I have 5744. So my laptop will fly with me to our family Christmas reunion with only XP installed. :( I had expected to show my family/friends the new features of Vista.

    Ah, Gabriel, you are the classic "early adopter" who could help create a good buzz for Vista.  And, it sorely needs it from what I see in the press.  And, that is why posting a CPP/RTM version with the June 1, 2007 drop-dead date would be a great idea if MS can do it without handing over the farm to the blasted pirates.

    And, to be honest, I don't see the problem.  I could have downloaded the RTM at higher transfer speeds on the P2P networks than I got using MS's blasted FTM on Technet Plus! (Not really complaining -- so it took all night while I was sleeping -- the computer didn't mind).

    Anyway ....

    Nick and Jim have been strangely quiet.  Maybe the idea is actually under consideration (he said, revealing his eternal optimism) :D

    One more thought -- a compromise/trade-off.

    What about posting a CPP/RTM with a -- can't resist it -- April 1, 2007 drop-dead date.

    Can only be activated once with an existing beta key.

    Trade-off -- The CPP community like Gabriel loses 2 months of "free use" but you get the release version and can help spread the good word (assuming you find the RTM less buggy than 5744 -- er, yeah, it is, mostly. You always create a new, ahem, "issue" or two when you fix an old one.  Such is life in the op sys biz.

    Food for thought or please send directly to garbage disposal without mean comment.  :)

    rblacher, you ARE an eternal optimist. :) I already gave up groveling a while ago. Microsoft is too big and bureaucratic to be able to bend the rules even just a little bit. I understand that. It gives a company stability, but at what expense? Still, my business decisions are just that so I don't hold grudges. They're too expensive. Even when I get my Santa Rosa MacBook next year I'll still install Windows in it. Microsoft won't be losing any sales from me. :)

    After Jim Allchin retires from Microsoft, I assume he'll finally get the Imac he always wanted as well.

    See:

    I hope Jim still has a sense of humor about having his email (mis)used against him in court.  If not, I probably won't be allowed to post on this blog again!  :-}

    Gotta say im a bit pissed of.

    I have the RTM version of Vista Ultimate running and because its an eval version only if I buy the the full version when it comes out I have to do a fresh install so much for testing microsoft's product for them.

    It took me 1 week to get this running how I want with the software I want.

    Thank god I backed up win 2k on the spare HDD
