Announcing New Packaging for Windows Vista and 2007 Office System

With Windows Vista and 2007 Office system, we didn't just redesign the software packages themselves, but are also introducing new packaging for the two products.  The packaging has been completely revised and, we hope, foreshadows the great experience that awaits you once you open it.  Check out the photos below.

Windows Vista Home Basic

2007 Office Professional

2007 Office – Home & Student

Designed to be user-friendly, the new packaging is a small, hard, plastic container that’s designed to protect the software inside for life-long use.  It provides a convenient and attractive place for you to permanently store both discs and documentation.

The new design will provide the strength, dimensional stability and impact resistance required when packaging software today.  Our plan is to extend this packaging style to other Microsoft products after the launch of Windows Vista and 2007 Office system.

Nice boxes but... will the customer be well informed about the differences between the products? In other words will the customer be able to understand if that particular version of Vista can run well on his pc?

The packaging looks nice, but will the new fancy box cost me more due to the new manufacturing process?

I am actually more interested on what is on the inside of the box.

Max: I'm sure, with tradition in mind, all the technical info (such as system requirements) will be on the back on the box/cover. :)

Klark Kent 007: Let's hope not, and keep our fingers crossed. :P

I wonder if there will be a no media player version of Vista for Europe or Windows Vista N.  Like Windows XP N.

To be fair in the days of dial up, what additional software you bundled with your OS may have had antitrust implications but today most Vista users will probably have high speed connections, therefore I dont see the need for a Windows Vista N.  Most people will just quickly download their favourite media player, browser, or browser ad on, or other software be it from Microsoft or a third party company.  So long as the OS accepts these nicely everything is cool.

Guess we will have to wait to see what European regulators think when Vista is released in Europe!

I just read that each boxed version of Vista will come with both a 32bit and a 64bit disc for Windows Vista which is a great idea.  I assume both will use the same product key?

The question I have is if I install 32bit Windows Vista on a system with a 64bit cpu, and then a year from now install 64bit Windows vista on the same system with a 64bit cpu.... is that allowed by the EULA, and not considered a transfer to a new device?
