The Games for Windows – LIVE desktop client is designed to deliver free content in the Marketplace such as game demos and videos like trailers to PC gamers

re: Giving the new Games for Windows – LIVE desktop client a spin

made a good explanation about this matter and thank you

Though my only concern was the lack of other titles available. I remember that we've got demos for the Lego series (let's add those) of Games. Try adding in older game demos as well and titles that are also being offered on sale.

I fired up the client on my x64 box last night and it seems great!

I will also ask about patches for older Games for Windows - LIVE titles as well.

Raith

It's great that there's a new client and all, but why can't we have messaging through it? It'd be easier to be able to set up a game with friends if I didn't have to be in a game in the first place to do it.

Also, will we EVER see patches for older games? Halo 2 Vista has MAJOR problems in the Keyboard Configuration area and Shadowrun asks for controller input no matter HOW you have your keyboard mapped. I'm sure these games are pretty much "abandoned" by now, but it'd be really great to see some effort put forth even on games that didn't have great releases.

Now all you need to do is make the minimum integrated graphics for a Windows 7 certified PC slightly faster than an Xbox360, + must have either HDMI or DVI output and you will bring Live to the masses.

My preference would have been for you to make the 360 so cheap that it costs very little to integrate into other set top devices like DVRs, and cable boxes but the more access points and the more standard the hardware the better cross platform functionality can be.

It really sucks to not have choice and have to buy a 360 if you already have a fast PC, when you may be a "casual gamer". That market is large, and needs to be tapped.

Ive been impressed by the price of the 360 this year, and Microsoft Office Home and Student Edition. The price has dropped considerably on both, which is good as it lets more people buy. In this Economy that is the strategy that you want.

Hopefully Live can become more accessible as time goes on with a paid and a free but limited community.

Hopefully after all those 360s are sold at Christmas, Microsoft will reconsider redesigning the 360 to have built in Wireless and a user upgradeable hard drive. Add in USB 3.0 support and make it a reliable beast that will be the VHS or DVD of the gaming world. casual gamers like want what you are selling its just hard to justify the initial expense.

However with a new 360, thats the standard for casual cross platform gaming, which has some new features has stability, reliability and good performance and a large community you may be onto a winner.

Keep pushing the strategy, be brave, try not to sell HD add ons for a high price, and make that money back buy selling content or having adverts.

Maybe I'm dreaming, but really the future looks bright for Live if it heads in the right direction.
