I'm sorry to say that HP have done at HUGE blunder. I have the HP Mediasmart Windows Home Server so I can have all pictures and movies and music on a safe place and also so everyone at home can get to it. The HP Smarttouch pc's have the program Touchsmart and they have not been talking with any other "Smart" team. They have made the touchsmart program "stupid" so it will only allow media files that are stored locally. They don't support media from the network.

I do not understand how HP can do a thing like that. The network media is fine to work/view in windows on the PC just not in the HP Touchsmart program. There is an option to use ITunes library instead of Touchsmart library but that only works with music and not pictures or videos. So if you point your music, pictures and video folder (in your windows profile) to a Windows Home Server you will not see anything there and can't use the Touchsmart program.

Brandon, Nothing new lately? Quite week. Retail companies have been using touch screens for years, they work well for the most part. They don't take to well to pens, markers, screwdrivers, razor knives, etc. I just bought my self a 24" monitor so I hope I did not waste my money...

Nice, touchscreens seems like a great idea for presentations and media. May have to have to wear finger cap though so as not to get the screen too greasy though.

It seems like even the first generation Touchsmart hardware is multi-touch capable so it's just a matter of software to make it possible.

Touch or multitouch 99% is driver question.

See for example Dell latitude Xt is multitouch with Vista ;)

@Eirik - I think the solution to the touch screen problem is tablet and table computing. If the screen is at your fingertips, yet at a tilt, it becomes feasible for your neck and your arms. Or at least that is my thought.

Eirik, thanks for the comment! The great thing about the HP TouchSmart PC is if you choose to use the mouse or keyboard instead - it still works wonderfully.

As a service-engineer I workted already 20 years ago with touch-screens in industrial areas.

It was sad,but after some years I had to convert many systems back to mouse or track-ball.

This was on demand of operators who became troubled when working with a raised arm for a long time.

The idea is good,but it is depending upon your working circumstances
