Brandon, I still have Vista on another drive and can still boot up in it if I need to. Yes, I will continue to check the blogs to look for further news.

I actually wrote Stardock; they informed me that it would be extremely difficult to unlock the tool bars, menu bars etc, if not down right imposable. They said they would get back to me if they could. That was several months ago. It's looks like Microsoft has Locked their new idea of what the UI should feel like so much so. That I don't beleive even they can change it with out a major overhaul. Then again 7 to version 8 should be a major over haul, "NO?" apparently not. For me this is the sole reason why I don't use Vista or IE 7. I want windows to feel like windows. If you go back to 3.1 for work groups to The NT's, 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP they all had the same basic feel. For me I don't want to learn Windows all over again, That was the whole idea behind windows to make it easy, simple and UNIFORM!!!! I'm not asking Microsoft to abandon their new idea of what the UI should feel like, all I am asking is to give us the choice we always had. If I could have the feel of previous versions of Windows and the power of Vista, I would not be using XP or looking at moving to another operating system...

Interesting comment Photo1921, sometimes I just wish Microsoft would buy Stardock and make some of its great software a Windows Ultimate Extra! XP was way more customizable, ditto IE6. XP did have tweak UI, and the great Zune Theme... Hopefully Tweak UI will come out someday for Vista someday.

Oh by the way PicLens for IE is now much better than in previous builds at least on XP, still kinda buggy on Vista, anyway I highly recommend you download it if you use Image searches e.g. Flicker or Google and are using IE6.

Infact... Cooliris is another company Microsoft should just buy, infact I have no idea how they make money? But their software is pretty cool!

I actually us XP pro my self, I dual boot. Vista 64 is another hard drive. I worked on many Dell's they sometimes have manufactures change their products making them proprietary I ran in this problem once with a ATI video card, I had to use the Dell driver, Now they may not do this in your case, but you may want to check Dell's web site and use their driver if you ever go back to Vista. My problem with Vista it the UI. I have the same complaints about the UI, that many had back in the Beta of Vista, you cant customize like you could in XP and 2000. Microsoft has yet to listen on the UI. To me they want to choose for you. I just see it as, "We will tell you what you like," attitude. All I'm asking for is to let me choose, just give me the option that we always had, is that to much to ask for???

I've got some answers to some of the questions/statements being asked or made above:

First of all: all Certified for Windows Vista have been tested to run on Windows Vista x64. For devices - that means they have drivers tested to work on Windows Vista x64. The certification doesn't include associated software for the devices only that the devices work. A example of "associated software" might be RAW image codecs for a Certified for Windows Vista camera.

newscientist2000, you asked exactly what does "the logo" really mean. The Certified for Windows Vista logo means what it says - its certified. As I explained above, products that are certified go through extensive testing to ensure the best experience in Windows Vista (all SKUs etc). When users see the "4 red green blue yellow Windows symbols" on some product's packaging it doesn't necessarily mean its gone through extensive testing to work great specifically on Windows Vista. We want users to identify products certified to work great with Windows Vista.

Good_Bytes, I've relayed your comments to the folks on Windows Vista Logo Team. If you have specific issues with your Creative X-Fi hardware I'd love to get specifics from you to forward on to folks here at Microsoft. Feel free to send a Private Message of your issues:

I also suggest making sure you have the latest most updated drivers too.

jquimby, have you gone back to XP completely or do you have Vista running on another system or partition? Your comment implied you were easily able to go back to Vista and check to see if you could install SP1. Either way I would certainly hope to see you continue reading our blog and leaving comments.

I was talking about the audio drivers and if it was from some obscure homebrew system I wouldn't have anything to say but on Dell systems I would expect it to work.

I saw the update regarding Sigma Tel. Thank you for addressing it so promptly. It still won't allow me to get SP1. It's moot now anyway. I've gone back to XP. It's faster, looks better and seems more functional. I tried to like Vista, I really did.

My machine had that logo too but I'm back to XP already. Vista's Explorer did it for me. Doesn't show size in status bar, selects files in list view even when clicking on the white space and autorefreshes all files.

* The specification are subject to change without notice. Or something similar will be on every hardware specification page or their manual. Also with the millions of combination of hardware no one including Microsoft can anticipate everything.

jquimby, what Certified for Windows Vista device "breaks" for which Windows Vista "update"? When you come here and say "lets not put frosting on a turd" it would be appreciated that you add a little more context to your issue.

I'd like to remind folks to try and be constructive when leaving comments here. Simply calling something a "turd" isn't very constructive.

I wish I could share in the joy and marvel at the over 5000 products that are Vista Certified. However, it is meaningless when a Vista update BREAKS the previously Vista Certified device. Come on, let's not put frosting on a turd.

I waited and waited and finally, SP1 is here but I can't have it. So I waited and waited for the Sigma Tel fix. I don't see it happening. So I bought a new drive and installed XP Pro and can't believe how much faster and cleaner it is. Even the picture and sound quality is better than Vista. Where was the improvement??????? Feels good to be home again.

Also: I am not sure your PC has the same exact logo as shown above. I'm not familiar with entire PCs being "Certified for Windows Vista" however PCs do ship with white "Windows Vista" logos on them (I will post a picture of the logo running on my laptop later) to showcase they come with Windows Vista.

I can't take it anymore, so I'm wiping my drive and going back to XP. Can't wait for my $2000 pc to act like a pc again. See you in Windows 7 (maybe).
