I found that the easiest way to delete multiple unused tags is to make them subtags of some other unused/stale tag and then delete that top-level tag (you can use Control key to grab and move several at a time). This doesn't work for the "Date taken" data, though. I imagine a near future release will have to have some sort of rebuild option, as things could get ugly for those with large libraries.

In the future, can we get to install live products in our custom location than the current one which installs ic Windows drive ?

Oh the same comment applies to the Date taken menu, there should be a way to rebuild/refresh it.

Windows Live Photo Gallery is great, the only thing I wish it had was a way to rebuild the tag list on the left side of the window. As when I imported my picture a few pictures had multiple tags (Like 30 plus each). The tags from these pictures of course then fills up the tag list, if I remove the tags from the pictures they still remain on this list, so a rebuild option would be nice. Alternatively if there was a way to have an option to say not add these photos with to many tags to the tag list that would be great.

Imagine one photo with 1000+ tags, it would effectively make this list useless!

Another alternative would be to allow me to delete more than one tag at a time from this list.

Thanks for the link to the Windows Live Photo Gallery installer.

I downloaded it:

WLinstaller.exe

Application 1.72 MB

Version: 12.0.1320.823

Installed easily PhotoGallery worked great on my XP machine. Going to the in program help/about confirm that I was running Windows Live Photo Gallery Version 2008 (Build 12.0.1193.815). However it also installed is the Windows Search Deskbar + Windows Desktop Search Program, and from the Add Remove Programs menu there was an entry for Windows Desktop Search 3.0.1.

Then I did Windows Update that you suggested and downloaded Critical Update for Windows Live Photo Gallery (KB943550) "Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta 2.2 is a refresh of the Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta 2.0."

After the update I was running the updated version of Windows Live Photo Gallery Version 2008 (Build 12.0.1299.1010) I could then uninstall Windows Desktop Search 3.0.1 and you were right with this new build PhotoGallery is no longer dependent on Windows Desktop Search 3.0.1.

Brandan, I got Windows Live Photo Gallery beta update via Windows Update in my Vista machine.

Also, when I downloaded the Live installer to install Windows Live Mail, it downloaded again Windows Live Photo Gallery and after installation I didnt have the default Windows Photo Gallery which came along with Vista RTM.

The same happened to Windows Live Mail, the old Windows Mail was removed :)

Its good that old ones were removed :)

Yes, I am (as well as the Windows Live installer team) that it doesn't work on 64-bit PC's yet.

If you have the previous Windows Live Photo Gallery beta installed - please run Microsoft Update and you should see an update for Windows Live Photo Gallery available.

Yeah I love Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta on XP, the only thing I didnt like is that is requires Windows Desktop search to be installed with it. The fact that this isnt made clear with the installer is a shame, however that small gripe aside its great and good competition for Picassa. Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta for XP though has the added advantage of allowing you to easily ad metatags and star ratings to your photos just like with Windows Photo Gallery in Vista. Great package.

As I said the only thing I didnt like was that Desktop search is installed indexes your files and saves an index on your machine, and since Im not completely sure how that process works is the index secure and encrypted?

MS should realize how people are pleased when they bother to update the apps in Vista with more powerful ones. In their battle on the enterprise front, MS seem to have forgotten the smaller but useful desktop apps which matter very much to average users. In some aspects, KDE and GNOME also have some really useful apps/utilities/accessories which Windows lacks. MS should form full time development teams for such desktop apps.

I also want Windows Live Movie/DVD/Media Maker, Windows Live WordPad (based on WPF’s rich typography model) and whatever-happened-to-Microsoft-codenamed-Monaco. That would complete the photos, music, videos consumer lifestyle vision.

Hopefully, you'll forward this to the Windows team(s).

This is a neat addition and its gonna rock as many use flickr :D

I dont expect Microsoft to release something similar for uploading to Google Photos, but it would be a big step if they do so :D

Firstly, thank you for a great product...Here are some more suggestions:

1. Export and batch image export to common formats: JPEG, PNG, HD Photo, BMP, GIF.

2. Ability to select multiple images from DIFFERENT folders.

3. Regarding slideshow: My hardware is fully Aero/DX9 capable, but I have Vista Business. The Photo Gallery in that edition does not enable themes although the hardware is capable. I request MS to enable themed slideshows by hardware capability, not limited to certain SKUs.

4. Support for dual monitors on slideshow.

5. In slideshow/screensaver, add support for live photo streams (RSS).

6. Features to create collages, posters, calendars, greeting cards, party invitations.

7. Downloading from Flickr, Live Spaces and Facebook. The Flickr API is public.

8. Publish to Facebook.

9. More editing effects. Support for effects/processing plugins would ROCK!

10. Ability to add/replace/remove color profiles from images.

11. Rotate pictures and thumbnails to match the portrait/landscape orientation information present in most files, as most digital cameras now include this EXIF info.
