hi, i have downloaded some content from dream.wincustomise.com but how do i get them to work? they are on the desktop atm and the one i have from the windows update is in mpeg format and these are .dream format, so is there something else i need or what am i doing wrong? i have dreamscene and ultimate so i dont understand why they wont work

I just installed Vista Ultimate. There aren't any content packs available except the language packs. Has microsoft stopped releasing content packs? As I read above it appears that there have been new content packs release. If a content pack is not listed in the "Extras" portion of the update, where can I download the content?

Ok, so the contents now seem to be available for download again - downloading now - strange thing is that when I was checking for updates some hours ago, nothing happened. Now another scan worked.

The distortion issue remains however.

Hello.

Can anyone help? I am experiencing an annoying problem with DreamScene. A few weeks ago, without any obvious cause all the videos in DreamScene became scrambled. It's as if a wrong codec was installed, only that I hadn't changed anything about codecs in months. I wanted to post a clipboard picture here, but there seems to be no way to do that. Anyway, DreamScene is completely usless now. First I tried to install a different codec pack. This didn't help, so I tried to uninstall DreamScene and reinstall it again. I went to installed updates and removed all the DreamScene files. But then I found out that there is no way to reinstall them again. I looked everywhere, but there seems to be noone having the same problem. I only managed to install the last update for DreamScene(from 2.8.08 I think) which by the way, before I uninstalled DreamScene, kept offering itself to install via update although I had it already installed.

The installation went smoothly this time and this time the update stopped offering itself again. The problem with the scrambled video remains however. Only this time I can choose from only one file of scrambled video in the DreamScene content menu, instead of 8 or so as it used to be.

To sum it up I am looking for a solution to these two problems:

How do I get the video in DreamScene to play without distortion.

And how do I reacquire content that I lost through the uninstallation. (Note that Windows Update doesn't let me download any of the previously dwnloaded files again / no offers for DreamScene whatsoever)

I'm gradually growing a little desperate, since I really like DreamScene. So any help will be greatly appretiated. Thanx.

Ok, moved my machine forward from a 3ghz P4 to an Athalon X2 5200+ and upgraded the video card.

Since I now have more available CPU cycled, Dreamscene now occupies a much smaller percentage of them and is now worth running on SOME of the video clips.

I've checked out a number of third party stuff as well as a the content pack and the waterfall from the content pack is definitely one of the very best out there. It isn't fake, it has a very smooth loop (except for a single little water drop in the image) and is visually appealing.

THere are a few others out there that are interesting, like a northern lights one, but they are often just a static image with a single animated center image and clearly look like it.

Others just move to darn fast to not be distracting.

Yup, definitely the waterfall. More nature bits like it would be cool.

Sadly Dreamscene is so brutally cpu intesive on a dual monitor system that it just isn't feasible for me to run it. It would be nice if I could run it on just one desktop.

Actually, it would be nicer if it wasn't brutally cpu intensive.

It would be even nicer if someone could beat the ultimates team into blogging on something more frequent than every 2 or 3 months in response to a huge public outcry over their apparent inability to do anything at all.

They could start with explaining why Dreamscene was ready in July, but not delivered until days AFTER their promised release date in september.

Prety cool update to dreamscen seems more stable i thought it was interesting but never really used it and was REALLLLY wondering when more things would come out and ya i think the lazer thing and waterfall are best.. the start button glowing is cool but for some reason dosnt show good widescreen.

I really like the waterfall dream. Make sure to stop by the Dream gallery at Dream.WinCustomize.Com, as we have had some fantastic .dreams submitted this past week.

My favourite is the one which has the default Vista Wallpaper - I love that and also I like the Glowing Orb.

I have also installed Stardock Deskscape and they have some excellent themes.If you havent checked Deskscape, do check it out friends

BTW, thumbs up to Vista Ultimate Team for releasing a good Dreamscene Content Pack :)

eseliq, Windows DreamScene works fine with my dual-monitor setup. It actually works amazing. If its not working for you with dual monitors its quite possible its a driver issue. I had to update my drivers. I do not believe Windows DreamScene works with 4 monitors though. Are you running 4 monitors?

Shame it doesn't work with multiple monitors. One of the main reasons I got ultimate is for extra's like Dreamscene, but people who have Ultimate computers often have multimonitor configurations... Wouldn't it make sense to at least have it work on one of the monitors?!

Just another dissapointment for me with Vista and I have to sell this stuff for a living.

Hi Brandon,

Yup - rebooted 4 times, ran Windows Update each time & still I see "There are no Windows Ulimate Extras Available". I also went to "View Available Updates" & see 15 Language packs but nothing related to the DreamScene Content Pack. Any ideas what I should try next?
