I purchased the tx1119us, which doesn't have the touch screen but is otherwise almost identical - 2Gb RAM, 160Gb disk, 64x2 1.8Ghz. The main problem was all the crapware it was shipped with making it almost unusable. Fortunately I was able to install Vista Ultimate from scratch and HP's web site had all the drivers. After tweaking, it's a lean mean machine. I like it, but still don't have a way to adjust the touchpad sensitivity. Other than that, I'm quite happy with it. Circuit City had this model at a great price ($1,149) and it's much less expensive than any other comparable laptop.

Great points fastEddy! I always like to take a look at a variety of laptops from a variety of people (companies) - which is why based on comments above, I was interested in giving a Sony VAIO a try. Acer has some nice laptops too and my friend as Lenovo which is interesting.

Have I missed something here. The HP TX1000 as tested looks to be on the top end of consumer notebooks. I looked at the Sony that was recommended and there are big differences between the two (HP vs Sony). If you buy a notebook on the "wow factor" of the display only well I think you are cutting yourself short. The TX1000 can be purchased in many differenct configurations. You can order a HD at 200 gb and a an AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-64(2.2GHz/1MB). This notebook can be configured with qickplay, lightscribe and 2 mg of ram. Also, brightview is available and very well will come close to the display that you will see on the Sony VAIO.

I might just have to check out one of those Sony VAIO's - thanks hellscream. The tx1000 certainly isn't the most powerful laptop on the market but I think that its feature-set adds to the value of owning this laptop.

And yeah its certainly stylish.

I really enjoyed the few weeks I had with it.

hellscream suggests the Sony VAIO FE48GP laptop - anyone have suggestions to other laptops I might take a look at and possibly review and test out?

Its an Ok Looking lappy but i velieve that it is not that powerful enough and as we have seen many lappys fizzle out this one might too. I had a chance to tryout Sony Vaio FE48GP, though Bulky and the battery is pathetic but the real WOW of Vista can be seen only on that kind of screen quality.
