Testing Out the Microsoft Translator Widget

Back during MIX09 in March, the Microsoft Translator Widget for websites was announced. People with websites or blogs can embed the Microsoft Translator Widget (powered by Microsoft Translator) into their site. Visitors of websites and blogs that have the Microsoft Translator Widget embedded can translate the content on the website without having to leave the site at all – which is awesome.

I’ve added the Microsoft Translator Widget to the Windows Experience Blog. It’s not yet deployed to all our blogs here on The Windows Blog just yet as I’d like to test it out first. The Microsoft Translator Widget will show up in the sidebar of the Windows Experience Blog where you can choose a specific language to translate the content to without leaving our site. The widget looks like this:

I would love to get some feedback on how well the Microsoft Translator Widget translates my blog posts. If you are fluent in any of the languages the Microsoft Translator Widget can translate to, translate my blog posts and let me know in the comments below how well it’s translating the blog posts.

Another Peek at Changes Coming with the Windows 7 RC

In late February, the Windows Engineering Team offered a little sneak peek at upcoming changes with the Windows 7 RC based off on the amazing amount of feedback we’ve received (and continue to receive) from the Windows 7 Beta. Today they are offering another peek at some more changes coming with the Windows 7 RC. These 2 blog posts represent only some of the changes coming for the Windows 7 RC and as Steven notes in his intro – this is not an exhaustive list.

I wanted to take a brief moment and highlight a post by Windows Engineering Team today discussing just some of the more visible changes coming with the Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) based directly off feedback from *you*. You should definitely give the post a read if you haven’t already.

Yesterday, Steven Sinofsky posted about the amazing amount of feedback we’ve received since the release of the Windows 7 Beta and how the Windows Engineering Team is digesting that feedback to raise the level of quality of Windows 7.

I would like to take this opportunity to gather feedback directly from you the readers of our blog. There are some key questions I would like to ask you:

How are we doing?
What types of blog posts do you like the most?
Which ones do you like the least?

We’re coming up on the Windows 7 Beta – what aspects of Windows 7 are you most interested in? Are you interested in the visual changes we’re introducing such as the new Windows Taskbar? Performance improvements? Are you interested in some of the digital media improvements with Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center? And of course we’re going to continue to talk about Windows Vista as well. What in regards to Windows Vista do you want to hear more about?

We’re in the process of planning some pretty interesting (and exciting) content for you but I’d like to be sure that we’re planning the right content based on what you would like to see from us here on The Windows Blog.

So let us know what you think! I look forward to reading everyone’s feedback.

Submitting Feedback for the Windows Live Apps and Services

I get this question a lot from folks testing and using the Windows Live apps and services: How do I submit feedback?

There are several really good options users can use to submit feedback for Windows Live. I'm going to showcase those options here.

1. Windows Live - Send Feedback (feedback.live.com). Users can go to feedback.live.com and choose from the list of available Windows Live applications and services to leave feedback for. This site is open to *anyone*. Each team has a mechanism internally for taking in this feedback or suggestion as they continue their work. Once you click on a specific app or service - you will be directed to a feedback for to fill out.

2. Windows Live Product Team Blogs. Almost all the Windows Live apps and services have an official team blog you can visit to read the latest from their team about their product. This can also be a great place for leaving feedback. Many of these blogs allow for comments. You can leave feedback and suggestions through leaving a comment on their blog (all you need to do is log in with your Windows Live ID). How do you find all the team blogs? Simple. I have created a special page specifically for all the Microsoft Team Blogs that exist. You can see the list of Windows Live blogs here. The Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Mail teams even have a blog specifically set up for email support. You can also visit the new Windows Live Wire blog for all the Windows Live blogs as well.

These two options are available to anyone wanting to leave feedback on the Windows Live applications (such as Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Mail, and Windows Live Writer) or the Windows Live web services (such as Windows Live SkyDrive, Windows Live Hotmail, and Windows Live Spaces).

Please take note: in leaving feedback either through feedback.live.com or a specific Windows Live product blog - try to be constructive in the feedback you leave. Saying "this product sucks" is not constructive feedback. Instead - try explaining why you feel the product or service is not working for you and what you think they could do to make it better. This kind of feedback will help the Windows Live teams plan and ship changes, enhancements, and features that will be the product or service better for everyone. Not to sound cliché but - you can make a difference.
