Dell Now Offering Windows 7 Drivers for Commercial Desktops and Laptops

Dell

Dell is jumping in to help business (commercial) customers get ready for Windows 7 by offering Windows 7 drivers for their commercial desktop and laptop PCs. They are posting their Windows 7 drivers here (see Drivers and Downloads on left-hand navigation).

By offering drivers for their commercial desktop and laptop PCs, Dell is helping business customers with Dell PCs in their environments prepare for Windows 7 deployments.

For more information, see this blog post on Dell’s Inside Enterprise IT Blog.

Unfortunately it looks like Dell is only offering Win7 drivers for the current laptop range OR not laptops that are only 2-3 years old :-(

Perhaps other drivers are already part of the Windows 7 install?

There are still only 32-bit Vista drivers listed for my less-than-a-year old Vostro laptops (a 1310 and a 1400).

You would think that in this day and age, Dell would at least have the courtesy to provide 64-bit drivers for a laptop (business or otherwise; the Vostro is a business laptop, though regular consumers should get the same treatment as well) that's less than a year old!  And what's even more frustrating is that Dell *does* have 64-bit drivers for these laptops: the 64-bit drivers for the slightly newer 1320 model seem to work okay on the 1310.  If you have the drivers (which you do), why not just post them for that model, instead of forcing us to go through trial-and-guess and guess which drivers for the new machines might be compatible with the older machines?

Anyway, I'm pretty annoyed at this post, because it's obvious that Dell isn't even trying here.  Except for the very latest, currently-shipping models, they are still providing only 32-bit Vista drivers.  No W7 drivers (though they are probably the same as Vista drivers), and most importantly, no 64-bit drivers.  Dell, cut this BS and post back when you REALLY provide proper driver support.

Folks, as the blog post from Dell says - they continue to post additional drivers so if you're laptop doesn't have Windows 7 drivers available yet, it quite possibly will in the future.

Dell is not saying drivers for ALL commerical laptops and desktop PCs are available now - they saying they have started posting Dell Certified Windows 7 drivers for download.

Please be patient. These drivers go through extensive testing before they are made available to ensure the best experience possible.

    Thanks!
