Zune HD Revealed & Zune Coming to the Xbox!

My pal Brian Seitz over on the Zune Insider revealed a brand new (and very awesome looking) Zune yesterday – the Zune HD.

Zune HD

This awesome looking new device comes with an OLED screen with multi touch, an HD Radio receiver, HD video out capabilities, AND a web browser! Find out more about the Zune HD here. The Zune HD will be hitting the market later this year. I’m definitely getting one of these!

Oh and Zune will also be coming to the Xbox 360, taking over the existing video marketplace. Expect to hear more about this at E3 taking place in Los Angeles next week.

You can read the full press release for these 2 announcements here on PressPass.

Brian says there is more news to come. I suggest keeping your eyes on the Zune Insider.

The Zune HD looks sweet. Touch screen was a must this time. I'm interested to hear more about the device and how Microsoft is changing up the XBL Video Marketplace.

Pretty much a no-brainer given the GPU / CPU in the ZuneHD, but can you confirm if the ZuneHD supports Media Center Extender Functionality?

This is sorely needed, as Linksys and HP have killed their extenders off, and we are only left with an *extremly* loud Xbox360 as the choice.

Letting the ZuneHD with it's small form factor and quiet running seems obvious. Thanks!

Pity that it has such limited global distribution it certainly has potential but until it is legally available in many more markets it simply isn't a true option for a vast percentage of the worlds population. I dont care if a "MS" store exists or not I use an ipod now and less than 5% of my music has come from the itunes store. I have a Xbox 360 but I cant get a zune. Reason ? well I have yet to see any semblance of reason from MS.

I hope it turns up as a prize in the Live Search Club.

Well my wife has been bugging me to get an Ipod touch, but since Apples system is so closed I was reluctant to get sucked into the Ipod touch world.

But this sounds more interesting particularly if it has a decent web browser.  If it can run Hulu and Skype, Im sold.... well she would be sold, and I would have to pay up.  She would probably kill for this device if it could output Hulu to a TV!

    Just three questions:

    1. Will it cost $249 like the previous versions?? if not how much??

    2. What's the storage on this baby??? like 80GB???

    3. Will it have a Developing platform with like an API and stuff???

Well, I got suckered in by Apple... well by my wife, and Apple, she recently started Nursing school and so needed a portable device for her classes, mainly for scheduling and downloading medical programs/apps, medical calculators and the such, apparently using a blackberry, ipod, pda or netbook is very common for new nursing and med students... so we got a 8GB ipod touch today via Craigslist.

Apparently Apple is flooding the 2nd hand market by giving away Ipod touches free with new Macbooks for students, hence we got a brand new ipod touch for $140  sold still new in the box off some other student who had bought a Macbook (not condoning Macbook purchases here), but $140 for a ipod touch wasn’t bad.

First impressions...Apple didn’t even cover the screen with any protective film, every digital camera I've ever bought came with some see through film on the screen when new, cheap, very cheap Apple.

Second impression, the touch screen is nice and addictive.

Anyway, I hope that the Zune HD is good when it comes out, because I’m kinda sad to be tempoarily out of the market for one.

The Ipod is no doubt a good product, but a quick look online for reviews show that its far from perfect hardware wise, so competition is indeed good thing.  I’m still kinda scared to update to ipod OS 3.0, according to some online forums it seems like it breaks some apps, and the added Bluetooth support doesn’t seem to support audio in, Flash still isn't supported.

Apple really needs to open up the Ipod to more software innovation for sure, seems like they use the OS software updates to cripple the hardware and or the software of competitors...kind of  a shame really.

I get a feeling that the touch interface is what appeals to most people, then the Apple app store, same thing that sold the first ipod circular motions, touch is an addictive sense.  Still these devices have a limited lifespan, as such there is room for new players with better specs to enter the market, and although the ipod touch is nice, it could be better, for gaming, for browsing, for Skype.. hopefully the ZuneHD will have some nice software to go with the hardware because Apple seems like its sitting on its market lead, seems like competition from Microsoft, Sony and Android based devices is the only thing encouraging them to innovate these days.

If Microsoft can avoid its tendency to totally control an OS (Apples new forte) on the Zune device and make it a good platform to develop for the ZuneHD may succeed, clearly if the hardware is good, and the software developers are given the ability to push the device to its max, then it could open up the market.

Now all my wife needs is a Netbook for school, darn it nursing school is expensive :-(

Oh and if ZuneHD has portable versions of Microsoft Office that would be just amazing.

Not sure if the ZuneHD supports microSD cards...if not it should through a cheap add on, apple should support these to for the Ipod touch to, its just barbaric to limit a devices full potential by not supporting the cheap and obvious expansion paths fully.
