How are we doing? Give us your feedback!

I would like to take this opportunity to gather feedback directly from you the readers of our blog. There are some key questions I would like to ask you:

  • How are we doing?
  • What types of blog posts do you like the most?
  • Which ones do you like the least?

We’re coming up on the Windows 7 Beta – what aspects of Windows 7 are you most interested in? Are you interested in the visual changes we’re introducing such as the new Windows Taskbar? Performance improvements? Are you interested in some of the digital media improvements with Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center? And of course we’re going to continue to talk about Windows Vista as well. What in regards to Windows Vista do you want to hear more about?

We’re in the process of planning some pretty interesting (and exciting) content for you but I’d like to be sure that we’re planning the right content based on what you would like to see from us here on The Windows Blog.

So let us know what you think! I look forward to reading everyone’s feedback.

P.S. Keep it constructive ;-)

Windows 7 beta needs to be released asap. Just release the beta know because most people already have it. A lot of people I know do, and it was already announced that a safe Windows 7 beta pirate is online for free. Build 7000.

Excellent blog, I think it's great that Microsoft are communicating updates about Windows 7 so early and we have the opportunity to provide feeback.

Here's a good one for you, id really appreciate some feedback from a Microsoft developer or like minded person on the following please:

Ive been looking at some of the online videos and screenshots of Windows 7 and i have been waiting with intrigue to see what new features will be included.

At the moment I like the look of 7 however if im honest from what ive been reading on your blogs there really dosent look like there are many major advances from Windows Vista (which I love by the way) other than a slightly refreshed user interface and some 'fluffy' new features.

I live in the UK, which is unfortunate when it comes to online Media Center/WMP/Zune content as we simply dont have any or access to it via the US, (i'll get to the point!! :) )...so my question is: What major features (excluding online content for the above reason) do you believe are going to make me want to upgrade to 7 from Vista?

Comment to user SL380mbz.  I think the problem is probably more down to Toshiba or Sony.  I had a couple of freinds have serious issues with Vista on their Sony Laptops...to the extent that they returned them and switched to HP.

I have a Samsung R20 and have never had that issue or any really with Vista, so as advice id say stick with Vista and just get rid of Sony! BTW why would you want a MAC?  There just an overly expensive, poorly specked' PC with a duff operating system! :P

    Hi Team,

Here is my feedback on the basis of Windows Visa - Business:

    1) Snipping Tool - Pen, Highligher and Rubber is fine, But the most required thing is that you should atleast give an option to write TEXT on the snipped screen in different text colours with some shadow.

    2) Sorry to say but Windows Mail is not good, in the beginning the Search was working fine but it's not working most of the time, that's why we are in the plan to switch to some free client email application e.g. TBird.

    3) Kindly provide an option to list some of the known suspected IPs ( IP Address ) to put in a blocked list to give the pingback response as much is NOT ON.

    4) It's good that Microsoft is taking the feedback from their specific blogs, but truly speaking it's not visible as it should have to get the real feedback from the real users. The best thing is that introduce some kind of centralized website from user can select the Software and give their valuable feedback and recommendations.

    5) Few days before there was an optional update for Visa - Business which was containing some upgrade for some Touch Screen ( I don't remember the exact name ), due to Microsoft Trust we have installed that on the 2 mahcines and the MOUSE on the both machines has stopped working, and on the login screen we can see Keyboard after installation. We have tried to un-install the patches updates that day, but it haven't resolved the problem. And truly speaking that day there was very bad situation for us to work and response to our customers. This issue has gone when we have installed Logitech mouse driver. But an simple users don't have this kind of idea to resolve this kind of issue. So there must have an option to roll-back the Microsft Patches also, if anything goes wrong.

    Will write more later on....

    continued...

    6) Hardware Suggestion ( This is a thought only, if it can be... ): Is it possible to prepare Windows latest OS to read the different kind of RAM e.g. DDR1 , DDR2 , DDR3 and utilize the total resources from all the RAM from some external RAM reader like External Multiple USB Reader. Why there is a requirement of Replacing the old type of RAMs with the new types of RAM for enhancing the performance, if this can be achieved.

    7) Option to block IPs and IP Ranges ( xxxx to yyyy ) for any kind of response to Cyberpunk (Hackers) and excluding Government and Authorities.

    8) Due to recent attack on the most of the hosted website worldwide e.g. <IFRAME , kindly provide any good inbuilt FTP Application which can communicate only to the Client Machine to the Remote Server for Transfer and Downloading Files by specifying the target and client ip somewhere in the application and reject all other kind of data and ftp password compromise issues.

    9) While Printing the .xps file format in Internet Explorer or from some other application the Dialog Box should contain an option to Accept the URL and links also in the .xps document. Also when searching something inside the .xps file there must have to be a good highlighter for the search world, this should be bigger ( 20% or 30% including the yellow background with some border and shadow effects).

    10) Kindly provide any inbuilt download manager to manage multiple files for download and provide the scheduler also for individual file.

    11) Your all software’s including and excluding ALL don't help users about the DNS , reverse DNS , Email delivery tracings , Multilane Fine and Replace like DW, and lots of other burning issues which is already opened and in whole community including MVPs don't talk about this topics. We know lots of customers who has attracted due to some instant result but when they have grown to developed some good application there was no answers in terms of coding and they have shifted to Open Source, this was really disappointing for we. There is a question why any users should pay to your partners for the solutions if they needs to solve DNS , Email and other basic common requirements.

    12) Kindly open a section on your website and please provide a list of the MIME Tag Available for various most used file extensions. Most of the people have don't idea about the correct MIME association for specific file extensions.

    13) Help world by minimizing the Paper Usage by Proving Inbuilt Fax Utility more usable and powerful e.g. There must have to be a option to send faxes without any requirement of telephone lines, if a computer can communicate on internet without any requirement of phone lines by shared or dedicated ip identity, then allow users to send the document and text to the Target Fax Machines or Fax Enabled Windows Visa Machines. Might there is requirement of RFP amendments.

    14) If Windows Vista Primary disk is getting filled then allow Windows Update to utilize the secondary free disk according to users permission for any target folders on the secondary drive. Why enforce users to format the disks for increasing the disk quota.

    15) Please differentiate Indexing option for Outlook, Windows Vista Start Search must NOT have to search the email content. This is very dangerous if the computers is used by more than one people.

Lots more will write later on ...

First off, I want to tell you guys what a great job you're doing and I can't wait for the release of Windows 7.

The feedback I do have affect the whole windows experience, I don't know if this would be the right place to discuss it though.

Try making it a more seamless experience, take examples from apple. With programs like iLife. Try to make windows as seamless as possible.

That means the computer, the xbox, the zune, the everything.

A thing you guys should improve at microsoft is the Zune MarketPlace, compared to iTunes it is not good.

You can see where I'm going with this. Again I'm not sure this is the right place for me to talk about this but I had to say it :)

Great job you guys, hope my feedback helped :)

I recently bough a Microsoft 3000 wireless kbd, mouse, and webcam to replace an older Logitech webcam that was not compatible with Vista.  A couple of days ago I installed Windows 7 RC on my laptop, and to my dismay, the new webcam was not supported, as neither was my built in audio hardware on my Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop.  As a result, I have no mic or audio!

My question is:  Is Microsoft going to continue to do this for every major upgrade, or does it intend to rewrite a few of its own drivers, especially so since the webcam IS a Microsoft branded product.  Thank God the other two pieces worked!

On another topic, I'm a translator and interpreter by profession, and find the Spanish translation of many different things really akward, and sometimes, with a Mexican slant.

I would like to suggest to the team that handles localization that they should improve in this area.  I do not know what the experience is for those who use Windows 7 in other languages, but I hope is not as akward as the Spanish rendition.

Other than that, I'm enjoying the experience, although it's kind of difficult to do it in a different language than the one I'm used to.  I'm using the Spanish version for the benefit of my wife, whom I'm trying to persuade to get acquainted with new technology, the web, and fb.  The Inspiron is now HER laptop.

Keep up the good work, and get those drivers updated!

I would like to see more posts on specific windows 7 feature at a time and see how to use it and the more detailed description and practical use of the feature.

BTW ... I have some wish for Windows 7

Please reply me if what I want can be achieved in any other way.

What I want is extension of Library Feature. It is very useful and powerful feature. But currently there is limitation that you can create a library. You can only add folder to a library. What if we could add file type mask to be included in library. For example I want to inluclude *.exe , *.zip , *.msi files to a library named Applications. Can I do it ?

Also ability to add specific files such that I create a library named Project X and inlcude only the files related to the Project from different locations (may be image or doc or ppt). So I dont have to copy them to a single folder but maintain a library to access them quickly. Similarly another Project Y library can contain other files and some files can even be common to Project X.

Overall, I think Windows 7 should focus to performance, stability and data organisation/maintaining.
