How are we doing? Give us your feedback!

I would like to take this opportunity to gather feedback directly from you the readers of our blog. There are some key questions I would like to ask you:

  • How are we doing?
  • What types of blog posts do you like the most?
  • Which ones do you like the least?

We’re coming up on the Windows 7 Beta – what aspects of Windows 7 are you most interested in? Are you interested in the visual changes we’re introducing such as the new Windows Taskbar? Performance improvements? Are you interested in some of the digital media improvements with Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center? And of course we’re going to continue to talk about Windows Vista as well. What in regards to Windows Vista do you want to hear more about?

We’re in the process of planning some pretty interesting (and exciting) content for you but I’d like to be sure that we’re planning the right content based on what you would like to see from us here on The Windows Blog.

So let us know what you think! I look forward to reading everyone’s feedback.

P.S. Keep it constructive ;-)

I keep getting an Acer eDate Security warning, telling me to close all running programs & reinstall my Security programs.  I've done that & it still happens.  I've had this for 1 yr. & frankly I'd like to throw it against the wall.  It's just frustrating.  Any help would be appreciated.

when it comes down to acer, they are horrible at things like that. especially with drivers i've realized. but.. see if you can uninstall edata.. i'd do that within an instant, its horrible junkware. all you need is a virus scanner, and spyware prevention software, if you want to go that far. AVG + Spybot are the only things i use. well used to. hard for me to know how to fix it unless im there physically.. google ways to take it out. i know a lot of people are having weird issues with that program. acer must rush into things to get it out there instead of testing their things.

I know that this isn't very important for some people. But I think the added effects in Win7 are very neat, and getting closer to what some want. There was actually a pc with Vista on it, in the first season of "The Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles" that had a minimize effect, like the Mac's genie effect for the dock. The was also a video on Soapbox and youtube, that I think was a Microsoft Future Collaboration video, that also had these effects. I think people see these and think that they will eventually come. I think there should be an option in the performance settings or desktop settings, that would use these sort of effects. Why not use DX for something cool, for the people that want it? It might not be useful for business use, but for those people that do like this sort of stuff, and if may add a little flash to those, looking to buy a new pc or upgrade. I highly doubt you need a beefy graphics card to render these. I for one, would like to see this. Also, make the api or what ever it may be, available to be customized, so additional effects can be created, like Compiz.  You can already see, that when something new is released, people always try to tweak it, and make it there own. There have been really neat dreams that have come out, I don't get to use them here at work, but at times, I think it would be nice to have a serene, peaceful, scene to look at, on my other monitor.

Does any of this sound good to anyone else? I always think of movies that have these futuristic OS's and, they all have these cool transitions. Maybe just dreaming...

i'm a fan, a user, an admin, an architect, an IT manager,

and for me, its amazing that we still get more information from other websites than from microsoft's websites, blogs, newsletters, etc...

and even more... the same microsoft that is starting to listen hard to consumers and businesses, still restricts access to betas and information...

i am an msdn and technet subscriber.. but where can i get a beta of windows 7? TORRENTS... amazing..

i've read, of course, that those attending PDC got a DVD... why not just put it up for download..

and the kicker.. the worst move EVER on licencing.. the activation! it's on the beta!!! you have to have a key and activate the beta..

dont get me wrong... i'm eager to see if microsoft has managed to fix their OS, get the new features, enhance UX, but this is almost like seeing my favorite football player getting old... we want him to go on, to run, to score... but if he doesn't... we almost expect it...

please learn microsoft. please excel, please go away from those bad habits. dont be evil.

For Windows 7, I wish the explorer navigation could be like I have in XP with ability to have subfolders with links as in this video: cid-12c3e7f9200ab518.skydrive.live.com/.../Win7Wish.wmv

Also, wish taskbar could have more space as my double rows as in vista in the video.

As far as blogs go, you're doing a pretty decent job and I enjoy reading the Windows and gaming posts

    Windows:

A great improvement would be to implement a smooth Games for Windows Live (stand-alone desktop) that includes Friends, Chat, and IM from the 360. Possibly introduce video chat also?

Windows Media Player needs to have standard codecs like h.264, divx, mp4, and so on.

Dual monitor support needs to be improved: Be able to set which program opens on which monitor and correctly remember display settings.

Just don't get too fancy, where it cuts off on performance...

I think you have done a wonderful job with the blog. I am extremely interested in Windows 7 and can't wait for the beta!

I am still a bit disappointed at the lack of Icons with the text (and color background) in the task bars of Win7's Explorer and the live betas though. Mainly it would be nice to have an option that shows icons and text like in Vista. It's just more colorful and friendly. Having a color background instead of a plain white would also help. If there is any confusion about what I am talking about, in Vista it is an aqua colored bar with icons beside the text.

Just a further clarification of my last post, just in case. I am not talking about the taskbar at the bottom of the screen with the start button, but the bar at the top of Explorere with things such as Organize, Views, Open, Play, Burn, etc.

I'd have to agree jphillips59 and agree that I'd like to hear more about the technology behind Windows. I know that's pretty well reserved for the Engineering blog, but in this blog it'd be neat if it was told in kind of "real-world" situations and how we benefit, and how we can apply it to our tasks.

For example, I'm an electronic musician that works exclusively in the Windows environment. I'd like to hear the tech behind how Windows handles digital audio, especially for recording and composing. How do I benefit from WaveRT and WASAPI? I've heard a bit about it from Cakewalk, but I'd like to hear it touched upon here too.

I know it's more or less a niche thing, but it is definitely something I personally would like to see.

I would love to see more on the way each feature and process in Windows 7 has been looked at from the ground up. It would be really great to see the ways in which you have been able to refine the groundwork done in Windows Vista and fine tune it in Windows 7.
