How are we doing? Give us your feedback!

I would like to take this opportunity to gather feedback directly from you the readers of our blog. There are some key questions I would like to ask you:

  • How are we doing?
  • What types of blog posts do you like the most?
  • Which ones do you like the least?

We’re coming up on the Windows 7 Beta – what aspects of Windows 7 are you most interested in? Are you interested in the visual changes we’re introducing such as the new Windows Taskbar? Performance improvements? Are you interested in some of the digital media improvements with Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center? And of course we’re going to continue to talk about Windows Vista as well. What in regards to Windows Vista do you want to hear more about?

We’re in the process of planning some pretty interesting (and exciting) content for you but I’d like to be sure that we’re planning the right content based on what you would like to see from us here on The Windows Blog.

So let us know what you think! I look forward to reading everyone’s feedback.

P.S. Keep it constructive ;-)

I am most interested in upcoming requirements for Windows 7 hardware and what it means for Microsoft hardware partners.  What hardware is required to provide the most satisfying Windows experience?  What is the minimum hardware that can provide an acceptable experience.  What unique features can be enabled with special purpose hardware or firmware?

It is enjoyable to hear about the experiences of providing the next generation OS also.

It is hoped that the function of OS improves.

    Improvement of performance.

I want you to offer the place where old hardware can be made the best use of

    again.(Pentium M Notebook Intel 852/855 Chipset Family)

It is hoped that reformative hardware is released. (EFI)

The only thing in Vista that I have some teeth about and that I don't want to see again in W7 are those problems :

    - I don't want to see the HUGE RAM usage.  Please keep it low à la XP.

    - I don't want to see the folder view bug in Vista in W7.

    - I want to see, by default, that W7 uses all cores from a multi-core COU

    - For god sake : can I choose what I want to install?  If I don't want IE8 or WIndows Media Player, can I just desactivate it at the install?  In other words, I want to choose the components I want to install.

    Well, that's it.

    Thanks for reading my comment.

To this day I still feel cheated. Obviously, I refer to the lack of MSN Messenger in Vista GUI.

I hope Windows 7 will have MCE MSN messenger features.

Apart from that, I'm very happy with Vista (*sorry*).

"Are you interested in the visual changes we’re introducing such as the new Windows Taskbar? Performance improvements? Are you interested in some of the digital media improvements with Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center?"

Yes, I'm interested in all of those topics for Windows 7.

For Windows Vista, I'm interested in SP2, IE 8, and cool tips or tricks.

I don't agree with the other comments about scrapping the E7 blog. That's the place for in-depth technical stuff. This blog is for the EXPERIENCE of Windows Vista and 7, the features you can actually see, hear and touch.

One thing I've been wondering though is where we can get a Beta Release of WIndows 7? will it be released to users here or somewhere else?

Some of the features that I'm looking forward to seeing in Windows 7 would have to be a new design. I still use Windows XP so I'm waiting for a new look.

I'm also loking forward to a performance upgrade, and a new Media player.

Cool info that you provide giving us valuable insight.  That I'm thankful for.  I love the screenshots, so keep that up.

However, don't forget about Vista.  First, don't forget the mistakes made with Vista.  And don't forget that after 7 gets released, Vista still exists, and millions of users are still depending on Vista and Microsoft.  Luckily, I've been impressed with MS as of late, so I think this is going to be taken care of.  But always worth a mention ;)

And, let's not forget something else, something that deserves an update:  Ultimate Extras!

I'd like to hear more about the touchscreen requirements for Windows 7 to be able to use them. I ask this for two reasons:

    1. I have a UMPC with a passive touch screen. I can't hover over items in the new taskbar -- how will Windows 7 handle my situation? (Granted UMPCs are NOT a huge seller, but I'd hate to not be able to use 7 on it. :( )

    2. The current listing of "touchscreens" available on Newegg is slim. They aren't particularly high resolution and they're expensive. Is Microsoft expecting more to be available, or is it more of a "laptop thing."

This is what I'm hoping to see in Win7. I've heard about it running on a 1.0ghz 1gb ram laptop without a problem using maybe half the resources. I'm hoping that stays as efficient as I've heard. Vista takes too many resources IMO.

Also what would be interesting is to include in the installer settings to do a typical, custom, or compact install similar to 98. That would increase install time and space dramatically for people who just really need the plain OS. That is truly a feature I miss from the old days. Yes it's nice to have all the software Microsoft puts in but for some people, most of it may not be needed.

What can be interesting too is to include in the installer is to change the way Win7 would look and feel. For example, have the whole desktop interface feel like how Win98, XP, or the new style.

My main concern is definitely performance. I'd love to run it on my current Acer Netbook when it comes out without all the bells and whistles.

Opps.. I meant to say make the install go much faster/smoothly :-)
